Why is it so damn hard rooting for good kids who will go on to make something of their lives after they finish at K-State? To me, it is easy to be a K-Stater, been one all my life. If you're not a K-Stater, but just a fan, then yes, it might be hard. But for those of us who truly bleed purple, it's awesome rooting for a bunch of kids, regardless of sport, who the "Big Time" programs rejected or who chose K-State because they could see some grounded reality in a small Kansas town where honesty, hard work, and decency reign.
No, we haven't won national championships and yes, we have mere few conference championships as compared to some of our conference brethren, but I ask you this: Would you want to win just because we had the best players assembled or would you wan to win because we had the best team (a product of talent, effort, coaching, pride, enthusiasm, and deterination)? I for one, want no part of winning just because of the name on your jersey. No, I want K-State to win based on its traditions of getting more from less by outworking the other guy, being smarter and more savvy in terms of the intracacies of the game, and being tough.
Think how proud we all are about the accomplishments of our mens' and womens' BB teams: A mens' team that was picked between 8 and 10 finishes 4th and a women's team with a host of girls who grew up in Kansas and just outwork the talent-laden schools from south of the border. Would we have wanted more from either? Sure. But both exceeded expectations this year and the future looks bright for both programs.
Now consider the "Name" schools. Anything short of an NCAA title is failure. uk fans are talking about another run to the Final Four. They'll all be crying by the end of the weekend. Miss Paris is betting her scholarship on the Sooners winning the Womens' NCAA title (Uh, Courtney, have you watched ESPN and seen the Huskies play this year?). You better start writing that check, sister. And it's the same for Texas, USC, and Florida in football; uk, UNC, Duke, and UCLA in basketball.
Enjoy being a K-Stater. Or just be a fan. I'm choosing the former and damn proud of supporting the greatest school in the country!
So funny, yet so sad.
this guy=Idiot... who gives a crap how you do it, i just want to win...and this dumbass thinks were going to do it by outworking everyone else? That is why I love that board, every day you can couunt on some dumbass posting something like this...we werent going to win it all with bryce, but to think that we will be better without him is sheer stupidity...and yes it is sad...
South of the border? Mexico? I know he isnt talking about baylor and OK cause they beat our ass everyyear, i guess they just "out work us".
This is probably the same guy who was saying how much better than ku we are going to be because we have such a badass recruiting class...its people like this who wish that we could be like those other teams, this guy isnt proud to be a kstater because if he was he would quit bitching about how underpriveleged we are...
