I think he can gameplan and coach in the moment (but, more on that later). I don't doubt that. It's going to be about how well he develops his players. This also extends to Prince keeping his coaching staff together year-in and year-out. If the '08 offseason is like the '07, this won't be a good thing. If Prince can't take criticism or isn't willing to allow the opinions of others, then he won't last. So, the jury is still deliberating those merits.

Now, as for the coaching in the moment, he failed against Auburn. He and his coaches let Freeman and the team down by not adjusting to the Auburn pass-rush in the 4th quarter. By not protecting Freeman after he was hurt, and by not helping Alesena out once it was apparent he was out of gas, the coaches displayed a level of either incompetence or arrogance that I found alarming. They either didn't recognize the problem and the danger it presented, or didn't care about the problem and the danger.

My opinion of him drastically improved after last night when Wichita News stations reported that he admitted that he made several mistakes during the game and would do it differently if he had the chance to do it over again.

The fault I always feared of him was that he was too stubborn and would likely not change;  identifying his mistakes publicly and taking responsibility for them shows me that he's trying to be a better coach.

So yes, I'm much more comfortable with him now.

Ask me at the end of the season.  A moral victory (which should have been an actual victory) against an average Auburn team doesn't really change anything.

How many times does it need to be said, Freeman wasn't that hurt!  For heavens sake people.  I watched the game.  He didn't appear to be seriously injured.  No coach is going to allow their starting quarterback play seriously injured.  It just doesn't happen.

Do tell exactly how did you think they were supposed to protect Freeman?  Pull some new O-Line from the stands???  Was the coaching staff supposed to crap out a whole new line?

Prince admitted he made mistakes.  Leaving JF in the game injured wasn't one of them.  You must have been brainwashed by the ESPN announcers.

 :blahblah:

Blocking could have been better in the 4th. Freeman wasn't scrambling like he had earlier in the game.

Who is brainwashed, me or you?

It made me think that he is pretty good at game planning, we just didn't have the horses.

Leaving Alessana on island against Derrick Thomas is good game planning?

Never be a coach.

No here as well.  I'd still like to see Ron make it at KSU but I still question his ability to recruit Big XII level talent consistently and in the end that will make or break his stay here.  After the offseason exodus I also have begun to question: a) his hiring choices; and/or b) his ability to retain staff.

Ron Prince recruits/signees seen on the field making plays vs. an SEC team that is 34-5 over last 39 games.

Josh Freeman
Leon Patton
Deon Murphy
Antwon Moore
Justin Roland
Ray Cheatham
Rob Jackson
Mike Abana
Chris Patterson
Gary Chandler

that is after just two classes.  Not to mention other contributors.

I guess we're doomed he can't recruit "Big 12 caliber" talent..they can just play Auburn to the brink...or something like that.

Geez.

Wrong. We are still playing the "goods" from the 04, 05 seasons.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

 :loly:

I wonder if AZ still thinks a kid like Houlik can't play in the Big 12?  I love that kid.

my response didn't even include others like Josh Moore, Pierce, Lamark, etc.

It sucks being told by SEC players that we have as much speed as teams they see down South.

Sad Snyder didn't see the lack of speed or make changes at asst. coord.

If anyone watched Houlik's high school film and said that the kid wasn't Big 12 caliber, than they're just blind.

Holy $hit, talk about a much faster more athletic version of Travis Ochs.

So 10/22 players on the offense and defense are Big XII caliber according to you and you believe this is acceptable?    :billypopcorn: :twobirds:
