    Hey, basketball!!!
Without Ron, we wouldn't have a football program right about now...

Tim Tibesar spoke at the Nebraskans for K-State Catbackers dinner in Lincoln. He stated that when Prince took over the football program, 56 players were on "academic warning", about to be suspended from the team due to grades and academic progress. At this point in time, there are fewer than 10 players on academic warning.
I thought the initial number seemed high (maybe he mispoke or I mis-heard), but it explains why players like Deon Murphy are being held out of spring practice. Academics are obviously a top priority to Prince.

I'd rather have 10 win seasons than seasons with only 10 on academic probation.

Coach Snyder use to give a speech every year to the players where he'd raise up two fingers and say "Academics are number one."  He'd then raise up one finger and say "Football is number two."

Point taken.

Good to know our academics are in good standing. That's why people go to games. Tibby might want to work a tad on improving the 12th best in the league defense before Tech and OU put 80 each on the board at the Bill.

Top be fair he didn't really dwell on the academics thing, just mentioned it.

The Cornell model is almost complete...

Maybe winning should be a top priority.  Maybe winning a game against a north team should be a top priority.  Maybe not playing defense like a bunch of clueless &@#%s should be a top priority.  Maybe recruiting some decent talent should be a top priority.

Got a 'B' in HS Alegbra
Guys.  There has to be life after football for these fellas...when they graduate and don't make the NFL, they're going to need a solid degree in communications to fall back on.

These guys are going to school for free to play football. Why shouldn't football be a priority for them? I'm going to school to get an education, so school should be a priority for me. My scholarship money comes from the department and is based on academic achievements. Football teams with high GPA's don't generate quite as much revenue as winning football teams. All I'm saying, really, is I don't care how dumb our players are if they're winning games. If they're winning games and have 4.0's, then that's just a bonus.
