Jeffery whats with all the football coaches leaving KSU. First the players now the coaches, to me it dodn't look good.
Arrestacat, Ks 1/08/07
A:Careful what you say in these parts, Arrestacat. Lots of people - fans - are interpreting this change as inevitable and as a sign RP and the program are moving in the right direction. I find that logic comical.
-
Okay . . . comical.
Bold and Daring!!

I think the suggestion may be that there are issues that run deeper than schemes and such. Prince is a wacky guy. Just how wacky is he?

Typically I would go to my super secret source to find out this info, but now that Prince has banned Robert from Vanier we are all out of luck. :frown:
-
Attention Scuba Steven: Big time slam job in the Eagle right now.
-
Explain.
-
He's egging Scub on. (grammar?)
-
Me and Scuba are cool, I think. But, sure, this might set him off.
-
Any word on replacements, or will most news come after the coaches convention?
-
I think he wants to announce all of the comings and goings at once, so yeah, probably after the conference.
-
Since I have you pinned, was your Tyree article premature?
-
It was Parson.
-
Whoops, sorry. I stopped reading at "Jeffrey".
Was Parson's article premature?
-
Or did you change your last name from Martin to Parson?
If so, why? Scared of Prince?
-
Definitely not written by me. But I'm guessing it was premature, at least that's the word I hear.
-

I guess I just don't get where you are coming from. Why would you even want to write the story this way or respond the way you did in your Q&A forum?
You would think you would wait until it all shakes out to form your opinions. In the meantime you just piss off your readers and Coach Prince if you imply things that may not be true. No doubt this year has not been a bed of roses for this staff. I'm sure tensions ran high at times as they do for all staffs. Especially considering the pressure of performing out of the gate for this first year staff. Until I see the evidence to the contrary, I am not going to think there is anything more to this than that.
As for my opinion on the coaching defections, If it ends at Horton, Morris, and Cole, I think classifying it as an "exodus" looks a little silly. There is a post on the Wabash that sounds reasonably credible that this is the case and that those three are leaving for substantially more money and promotions. If that is true, that's the way this business works. If it goes deeper, I may begin to worry. In the meantime, I'll just shake my head at Jeffrey Martin.
-
Lets look at Rod Cole. I could be way wrong, but KSU brought in two guys to be the Strength Coach for basketball and baseball. Not two guys to be assistant strength and conditioning coaches that happen to focus on baseball and men's basketball. They were brought in to be THE strength coach(es) for basketball and baseball.
They both have their own weightrooms and their own offices in the men's basketball office in the case of Greenwalt, and in the Allen weightroom at TFS in the case of Scott Bird the baseball strength and conditioning coach.
Now I know the old mangagement chart has Greenwalt and Bird reporting to Cole, but I doubt either of them was getting much personal direction from Cole.
There's likely no way KSU is going to try and match what A&M is going to give Rod Cole, because he's didn't have near the responsibility at KSU, that he'll likely have at A&M.

In the Q&A he's asked his opinion....and he gave it, apparently if J-Mart's opinion doesn't agree with yours then he's wrong. How could you not come to the conclusion that an exodus by the coaches is, in some way, directly related to working for/under Prince? People came to this conclusion about Snyder when our assistants left to go to OU as their decisions were, in part, due to working conditions under Bill. But if you've saddled up next to Raheem and Franklin at So Long and asked them what they thought of Prince (as a friend of mine did) and one says "Man, F him" and the other agrees, then you might think that in part their reasons for leaving was their relationship with Prince.
-
Caveat: Not a huge Prince fan.
Question: Maybe Prince wasn't happy with them because of the job they were doing?? Injuries or not, defense back slid late in the season and got worked pretty hard by ku, and over run by Rutgers (didn't exactly shut out Texas either). Offense looked pretty inept at times when Franklin was supposedly more involved in the play calling.
-

Did they answer the way you described?
I'd also like to know why the only "celebrity" I ever see at So Long is Fitz.

**neither am I. And I don't mind the changes, I guess I have a problem with people thinking that everything is rosey and nice and our coach helps every old lady cross the street. Bill was an aboslute prick. He smiled and waived and said the right things, but from talking to the players while I was in college, they thought he was a prick. I don't necessarily fault Prince for making the change (it's something Bill would/could never have done when it needed being done), but his ability to identify coaching talent might called into question.

Actually, if that story is true, it says a lot more about Raheem Morris and James Franklin than it does about Ron Prince.

Yes. After a while of sitting around drinking at So-Long, they asked Franklin and Raheem "what do you think of Prince". Franklin's response was "Man, F- him". Raheem nodded in agreement.
-
I was totally envisioning it to be the other way around... Probably because I just see spineless when I see franklin...
I would have figured Morris to be the more outspoken one.

You do realize that James Franklin was the best man at Ron Prince's wedding, right? Does this story really seem credible to you?
I don't think everything is rosy in Wildcat land. It's not rosy at my job either, but sheesh people.

Oh, well, I didn't know they were BFF's. That changes everything.

Working with family/close friends usually makes professional conflicts much, much worse, IMO.

Pat Washington is leaving, too.
What were your thoughts about Washington, if any?
I never really heard much about him and he kept his name out of the media quite a bit.
Trying to gauge the impact of his departure-
-
Pat Washington will be looking for his fourth job in four years about a year from now.
Things have to be bad if he'd choose Croom over Prince at this point.
-
My old buddy, the Tennessee fan, said two things about Coach Washington:
1) His receivers don't block downfield. (Don't remember that being a problem this year, probably because the "guru" and his mentor couldn't get the guys with the sole responsibility of blocking to do just that for the downfield blocking to even matter that much.)
2) He likey the strip clubs. (As long as he isn't picking up a Dee Snider clone with his KSU credit card, I don't care.)
Thought the receivers did a solid job this year, all things considered. Based on results, however, Washington's recruiting at KSU appeared to have some "room for growth."

I think you have to bring in the personal side of the equation. Horton coming to Manhattan was a step up for a young person in his coaching career. He is the son of a coaching legend in Arkansas or Alabama. His daddy is guiding him. It was a step up to go to a coordinators position at Air Force. Raheem's wife has a very good position at a big name bank in Tampa and did not want to move to Manhattan. I don't think she ever did. Raheem got an asst coaches position back in pro ball and probably saved his marriage. Washington supposedly wanted to be closer to his southeastern roots and be with his buddy now that he is at Mississippi State. McCarty is gone because he sucked. No job prospects at the moment. Franklin's departure is pure conjecture. I believe he stays.
Assts. came in the early years to learn under Snyder and then left. Assts. under Prince are young sheep trying to find their way. Prince is not a teaching guru..yet. McCarty wasn't ready for prime time, others improved their lot. When your the boss its your ass in the sling so sometimes you have to be a prick. Let's see how the spots are filled. Face it, as a young coach learning D 1 ball, Manhattan is a stepping stone not a destination. Unlike Del Miller and Bobby Elliott who would have retired here if Bill hadn't beat them to the punch!
-
Reason why Washington left: Woody McCorvey. There you have it.
"He expressed a desire to work again with Woody McCorvey," Kansas State coach Ron Prince said in the release. "We wish him the best of luck in his new position."

SoDJ -- Your're right on with Cole...He was a carryover from Snyder and uses old school (aka less effective) means of improving S&C. Contrary to Coach G. And you're right, Coach G gets (er, got) no imput from RC, nor do I believe that he asked for it. IMO, the door was opened for him on his way out. A new S&C coach should improve the speed/power of this team immensely.

Damn he's good at saying a bunch of crap without really saying anything at all. His answers sound just like those you would hear during a political debate between presidential candidates.
He should just issue a generic monthly statement that the media and fans could answer their own questions with. He could have a word bank with stuff like "bold, talented, fast, daring, speed, toughness, etc." and then just rearrange the words into paragraph form every month. That would save everyone a lot of time.
-
Did you know during bowl preparation that they'd be leaving?
"My point is that these are talented people, and that every one of them on the coaching staff is going to be sought after, either continually or at some point. That's how I'll answer that question."

Amen. Considering the volume of non-information and selective information that we get from RP, you'd think he has a law degree.

Or at the very least he'd have read a book about law degrees.
