Dude, are you serious? The man contradicts himself. That's my issue. I couldn't care less who the freakin' starting quarterback is. Not one bit. My issue is when he says one thing and does something totally different. To me, that's being dishonest, and to me, that's a lack of respect from someone I have to have a working, professional relationship with. He could have avoided all of this, as someone pointed out earlier, by simply saying the quarterback position is different. But he didn't.
I asked him a question. He walked away. Even a simple 'no comment' would have sufficed. Instead, he walked away. That's ridiculous.
Tell the truth Jeff. He couldn't really have avoided all of this. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. You're so full of it. You're loving every minute of this. You and fatty are two of a kind. Fatty lives to get people's goat and so do you. Just admit it. You spout this .... professionl relationship.... blah blah blah. You are a Whitlock in the making. Not such a bad thing, really. I like Jason's work. I like fatty's work too, but don't try to feed us this "holier than thou" crap.
You went into that press conference with one goal. "I'm going to make him admit to something he doesn't want to admit to. If not, I'm going to rip him for it. Either way, I get a good story. Damn I'm good... heh... heh... heh."
Give me a break. You could care less that Ron is a hypocrit, in fact you're happy that he is. It gives you something to write about.

You hear that JMart?... thats Ksu fans telling you not to expose anything hypocritical about their head coach and his 'coachspeak'. If you 'think' about what Prince is saying than you're doing too much. It doesn't matter that what he says doesn't make sense. If you expose Prince's hypocricy than there can be no doubt... you must have some sort of agenda against Ksu. Its so obvious.
Scuba, you sound like a jackass. If a man is lying and everyone in the room knows it, don't be surprised if one of them calls him out on it. It was the person's fault for lying in the first place.
-
Actually, I thought that article was kind of cool. :beerchug:
Prince got owned.
-
You and fatty are two of a kind.
OUCH! Sorry J-Mart. :frown:
-
Scuba, I can't get anything past you, can I?
But how am I full of it? I'm not leading a witch hunt. What I do isn't going to affect Ron Prince's job status. My job is to cover the football program. If he's inconsistent with something as minor as this, what's to stop him from being inconsistent with something far bigger down the road?
Really, I wanted to hear his explanation for that. I didn't have a goal. It struck me after the 10th time he used the word "competition."

Bold and daring post, Scuba.
But how did J-Mart rip Prince?
-
But how did J-Mart rip Prince?
He exposed Prince's hipocrisy. Isn't that Lutz's job?
Also, I am just curious. Does the Eagle encourage you and Jeffrey to post here? In the last year it seems like I've seen quite a few posts from media members including you guys, Kietzman, and Whitlock to name a few and that rarely, if ever, happened in the past. I am glad to see it and I wondered if it was just a few people who decided they wanted to do it or if the media companies' managements are encouraging it because it increases interest in their products?
How long will it be before we see coaches posting on sites like this?
-
I don't think he ripped ron prince but I think that he asked a question that no coach in his right mind would answer and to me it looked like a reporter trying to lay a land mine for a coach to give a good sound byte. And Prince didn't take the bait.
Goldy please enlighten us as to how prince is a hypocryte??? How much depth chart shuffling has gone on this year?
Dline: Yes
LB's: Yes
Sec: Yes
Offense
QB: Yes
RB: Yes
TE: Yes
WR: YEs
Oline: Yes.
So I really am not seeing this hypocracy. We've seen some guys buried and some emerge out of nowhere. The competition at qb is over, Dylan is not getting better. IF he was then I think things might be tighter. But Ron Prince said going into fall camp that he was going to pick the qb that gave him the best chance of winning and stick with it. Don't you guys remember this summer how a starter was not named until the week of Ill St? People thought Prince was waffling.

Maybe it didn't happen in the past because there weren't internet BBS in the past? Or maybe it didn't happen much in the past because internet BBS weren't as popular as they are today?
I know for a fact that Coach Prince reads AND posts on this very message board quite frequently.

So, wait. The answer is obvious and can be well stated into a comment if you're asked about it directly? Interesting.

Who do YOU think ratted out Dax Rusty?
-
I know for a fact that Coach Prince reads AND posts on this very message board quite frequently.
If I were a coach, I would read it. How could you not be curious what people are saying about you? I would probably post some as well, but I wouldn't want anyone to know who I was and I would only post about X and O's type stuff. No internet pissing matches for sure.
-
No I think that this season has made people crazy. I think a lot of people are acting like this has been some sort of disastrous season with a bumbling head coach at the reigns and I just don't see it that way. I'm trying to understand.
LW, the fact that in my eye, this is so completely apparent that I question the motives of those that choose to make it an issue.
edit again
jmart I know that it wasn't your intention to lay a mine with that question, but that is how it came across when I first read it.

If coaches and players start posting, we'll be looking for new jobs.
It's not the company's idea. Honestly, this is a fun board. I had a blast reading the ksufans' chat room over J-Mart's shoulder at the MU game. This board does a good job of keeping it light and not so much sky-is-falling as that other place. Sure, it helps us with story ideas and the sort, but it's also good to have an interaction with the fan base. That's why J-Mart's forum works so well at the Eagle's website. Just taking advantage of the technology.
-
Jmart's q and a is really cool, it's too bad that fatty and stunner clog it up with stupid crap all of the time.
-
If coaches and players start posting, we'll be looking for new jobs.
If that were true, I can think of a few coaches that would already be doing it. ;)

You've got me all wrong Goldy? I don't think JMart has some kind of agenda against KSU. In fact, I don't think he gives two rips either way about KSU. I'm just not buying the crap he's spewing about why he is does what he does.
-
Scuba "owned" and/or "pwned" Gold...Boss and got "owned" and/or "pwned" by everyone else in this thread. There's no way he can recover now.

The competition at qb is over, Dylan is not getting better.
The competition is never over. Thats Prince's whole philosophy. Its what he's still preaching and pimping today.
But Ron Prince said going into fall camp that he was going to pick the qb that gave him the best chance of winning and stick with it.
So after the first few games he then bumps Dylan down and goes with Freeman who has 8 interceptions and 0 touchdown passes but is still firmly in the drivers seat for QB? If Prince preaches competition, why is there none whatsoever at the quarterback spot and why does Prince not admit this? Does zero competition deliver championships? Not according to Prince, and yet he's practicing it with this key position currently.
-
In fact, I don't think he gives two rips either way about KSU.
Bingo.

Scuba, I can't get anything past you, can I?

There you go again. Yeah, you have some moral obligation to keep old Ron on the straight and narrow. Doing it all for us fans, eh? Not all of us are as stupid as you give us credit for. Just admit it. You were being a smart ass because you could. Oh, that's right. You can't admit that, because it would taint your journalistic integrety.
It's going to be fun times when Tyree Evans shows up at KSU. It's going to happen, but you already know that, don't you? JMart's ticket out of podunk Wichita. I can see it now. "So Tim.... I thought you said you weren't allowing Bob Huggins to recruit criminals. What do you have to say for yourself?" Fun times.

Didn't J-Mart come to Wichita from Boston?

Yeah, GP will be interesting for the next few hours. We better win tomorrow.

You're a jackass if you don't think that if Evans signs and shows up next fall that a legitimate question would be "what changed in one year that Evans is now okay to recruit"? The honest answer to that question would be "he's an amazing talent, but we had to wait a year to give ourselves an inch of moral ground to stand on so we could say that he's shown that he can be an upstanding citizen even though really nothing has changed".
Personally, I don't care if Evans does come here, but it's a legit question.

If someone is saying something, and doing another, wouldn't it be kind of stupid to just ignore it and act like nothing happened? And perhaps, instead of being angry that JMart is calling out people for their hypocrisy, you should be angry that Weiser and Prince are allowing him to be able to in the first place.

Oh no question. It's a legit question. What will be interesting is how the answers get reported. Like I said. It will be fun times.

He more than agreed. Fitz really questions RP's logic. Where JMart left things to be inferred, Fitz just spells them out. I guess Whitlocks are just popping up all over the place here. Looks like ScubaSteve is Ron Prince's Ron Ziegler.

Am I to understand that ScubaSteve is questioning JMART's journalism skills?
-
"Prince to the media: "Competition for every position wins championships."
Prince to Freeman: "The jobs all yours baby."
He won the job, he beat out his competitor he is better than the guy he went up against. You'd make a crapty football coach goldy.
-
Most coaches concede the competition rule for QBs at some point. Name the last quality college program who rotated QB.
The problem J-Mart or anyone has is not with that principle, its that Prince hasn't handled the situation in communicating what's going on very well and comes across as a hypocrit, even though anyone that has followed football for any amount of time knows the QB exception is pretty common. This is Prince learning to handle the media on the job and not doing so hot at it. I kind of expected things like this to happen this year. Like I said earlier, Prince is a master with PR/media when he has time to prepare, but we're seeing the growing pains when he is presented with something that he's not prepared for or frustrates him.
-
The problem with the question is that for Prince to answer it honestly he has to bag on Dylan. How would you react if you feel like you get a question that can't be publically answered without harming your program? He sure as hell can't afford to lose Dylan or he would be down to only one QB and he already screwed up once when he benched him.
So he just walked away. A "no comment" would have been better, but at least he didn't answer it honestly.
-
man, i am gone all day and miss a thread like this......
wait, what is this thread about again

I could have asked the question in front of everybody but that would have embarrassed him. So I waited until he was walking away. I wasn't trying to be a smart-ass.
As for Tyree, hell yes, I'm going to ask Tim. As for my ticket out of Wichita, why not? Who doesn't want to advance in their career? I don't make any bones about that. But I'm also not trying to sensationalize anything.
MJ poses an interesting question - are you questioning my journalistic integrity? Are you? I'm not upset at all. Fascinated, really.
-
What a lot of fans need to remember is that we fans are allowed to draw conclusions and form our own opinions about things, reporters cannot. Unless the question is asked and answered it would be career ending for a reporter, a journalist, to write up a piece based on what he thinks is going on.
Important to note the difference between a columnist such as Posnanski and a reporter like Jmart.
-
MJ poses an interesting question - are you questioning my journalistic integrity? Are you? I'm not upset at all. Fascinated, really.
Magically, your journalistic integrity is only questioned when the piece you are writing could, in some way, reflect badly on the program. It's okay to call the parents of basketball recruits, it's not okay to call the parents of players that left the program. It's okay to ask Prince about qb sneaks, it's not okay to ask him about the qb situation/competition. It's okay to ask the AD's office about recruiting a kid accused of rape, it's not okay to ask them about the same kid if/when he signs with KSU a year later.
-

Look Jeff, here's the deal. I'm glad you're unbiased. I'm just not convinced that you will ultimately be fair. Check that....I'm not convinced you CARE if you are fair.
What is journalistic integrity anyway? Is it making sure that everything in your story is accurate? Then no, I'm not questioning your journalistic intetgrity.
Lots of people are on the fence regarding Ron Prince including myself. Can I not be on the fence regarding your reporting?
-
Too many words in this topic to actually read all of it, but I think what SS is getting at is this. Why are you asking questions designed to make the coach look foolish and then be up in arms that he just walks away from you? Personally I don't care or mind if you ask those kinds of questions, but maybe you shouldn't be up in arms over his reaction, or if it turns out RP doesn't want to be your buddy. I think the Journalistic integrity angle comes in when it comes to whether you are simply reporting the news or if you are trying to make the news. Either way, at least somebody is taking the K-State beat seriously in the state.
-
Nah, that's bullcrap.
Go back and check EVERYTHING I've written about Prince. There have been plenty of positive things, especially early on.
I've been plenty fair.
Scuba, what do you do, anyway? Just curious...
-
In fact, I don't think he gives two rips either way about KSU.

Yes, because your sole purpose in life is to cover Kansas State athletics.
That alone means you're already biased.

Doesn't it work both ways? Am I only supposed to lob softballs? He has an obligation to answer questions. It's his job. I just thought it was bush league to walk away. Now, you can think it's bush league for me to ask, and that's fine. But if I was trying to become the story, I would have said, "I asked Prince," or "I pulled Prince aside." I didn't do that. It didn't matter who it was asking. What was important, in my estimation, was how he reacted.
-
Jeff, have you heard Prince's reactions to my goofy questions on his radio show?
the guy isn't very good when faced with tough/strange questions.

You should be fascinated. I am too. You spent all that time in school learning about "journalistic integrity" and how to be an upstanding, proper, and unbiased reporter. Now that you're in the real world you are finding out that a lot of your customers prefer the unabashed homerism that is personified by the Tim Fitzgerald's of the world.
It's not really any different than yellow journalism. Which one wins?
-
I think some lady asked Art Shell how he would feel about coaching a team to an 0-16 season. I don't think he answered her. Anyway, I suggest this question "Coach Prince, how do you feel about driving the KSU football team into the ground after everything LSnyder did for this program?"
-
Jeff, have you heard Prince's reactions to my goofy questions on his radio show?
the guy isn't very good when faced with tough/strange questions.
IMHO he is like every other smooth talking CEO. Look at what happens when they have to explain why their stock went down to share holders or business mags. They bullsh1t until the numbers come in, use their catch phrases until someone comes correct (as J-mart did) and then they don't know how to deal.
Anyways...... After 15 years of Snyder why is everyone so concerned about Prince's media personality? I understand he has tried to cultivate a positive image, but we sure as hell didn't care when Snyder blew off Media Day to hold an extra practice or shunned Keitzman for stretches at a time. Since when do we care?
As I see it: J-mart has a right/responsibility to ask, Prince has a responsibility to answer (but the option to blow J-mart off) and we have the right to ignore all of this and concentrate on football. If you think it is telling/funny/interesting, great. If you don't, why do you care?
-

How is that a joke? He can say "no comment" if he likes. He must deal with the media.

This turned into a really boring thread.
It needs more juicy rumors and less "journalistic integrity" debate.
JMO.
-
All of the media hates Prince because when he first came in and was talking to everybody and going from town to town the media thought, "What a great change compared to Snyder, this guy is going to tell us everything we want to know!"
Then the season started and they quickly figured out that this wasn't going to be the case.
And Prince hatred was born.
-
Can someone tell me how the conclusion that he is dragging down the program was reached?

I think the Journalistic integrity angle comes in when it comes to whether you are simply reporting the news or if you are trying to make the news. Either way, at least somebody is taking the K-State beat seriously in the state.
Here's the thing, the question wasn't designed to make RP look foolish. It was designed to get to the bottom of this contradiction that RP has been spewing for weeks, now. As it's already been pointed out several times, the answer was a simple one, and, despite what many of you think, RP didn't have to throw Dylan under the bus. All he had to say was something along the lines of, "Because of the importance of the quarterback position, our competition theory isn't as prevelant as it is at other positions..." or something along those lines.
It was made even easier when J-Mart waited until after the formal press conference and asked him off to the side. But instead of talking around the pointed questions like he does so often, RP opted to push the question back on J-Mart then walk away. J-Mart wasn't asking to be his buddy, he was asking for a clarification. He didn't get it, nor did he get the same respect from RP that he showed RP by asking the question off to the side.
It's funny, because if Prince would have answered the question, talked himself around the question or said "no comment", none of this would be an issue. Instead, J-Mart reports how RP handled "answered" the questions, and J-Mart is the one getting ridiculed. It makes no sense.

We can't have more juicy rumors until we understand where they come from.
More Journalist integrity = no juicy rumors.
Less Journalistic integrity = a cheerleader is having a head coach's baby.
-
All of the media hates Prince because when he first came in and was talking to everybody and going from town to town the media thought, "What a great change compared to Snyder, this guy is going to tell us everything we want to know!"
Then the season started and they quickly figured out that this wasn't going to be the case.
And Prince hatred was born.
I can't think of one media member who "hates" Prince.

That's it. He's a traitor.... Send in the thugs....

Josh Freeman: What does Ron Prince look like?
J-Mart: What?
Josh Freeman:What country you from?
J-Mart: What?
Josh Freeman: What ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in What?
J-Mart: What?
Josh Freeman: ENGLISH, MOTHER&@#%ER! DO-YOU-SPEAK-IT?
J-Mart: Yes!
Josh Freeman: Then you know what I'm saying!
J-Mart: Yes!
Josh Freeman: Describe what Ron Freeman looks like!
J-Mart: What, I-?
Josh Freeman: Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherf****r. Say what one more god**mn time.
J-Mart: He's b-b-black...
Josh Freeman: Go on.
J-Mart: He's bald...
Josh Freeman: Does he look like a b*tch?
J-Mart: What?
[Josh Freeman shoots J-mart in shoulder]
Josh Freeman: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A B*TCH?
J-Mart: No!
Josh Freeman: Then why you try to f*** him like a b*tch, J-Mart?
J-Mart: I didn't.
Josh Freeman: Yes you did. Yes you did, J-Mart. You tried to f*** him. And Ron Prince don't like to be f***** by anybody, except Mrs. Prince.

FWIW, Jayhox says Snyder to Minnesota.

In fact, I don't think he gives two rips either way about KSU.
Bingo.
Are you suggesting that I should have some personal investment, some tie to the university that I'm paid to cover? Somebody hasn't been informed about what it is we do.
I do think its odd that you come to their message boards though. Do you visit other schools boards as well?

Right. And Bill Snyder wrote a letter because he wants KSU fans to support Ron Prince.
-
I can't stop laughing. That thing is going to the Warzone.
-
There you go again.
Tell the truth Scuba. He couldn't really have avoided all of this. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. You're so full of it. You're loving every minute of this. You and fatty are two of a kind. Fatty lives to get people's goat and so do you. Just admit it. You spout this .... journalistic integrity.... blah blah blah. You are a sonofdaxjones in the making. Not such a bad thing, really. I like dax's work. I like fatty's work too, but don't try to feed us this "holier than thou" crap.
You went into this thread with one goal. "I'm going to make him admit to something he doesn't want to admit to. If not, I'm going to rip him for it. Either way, I get attention from the KSU beat writer. Damn I'm good... heh... heh... heh."
Give me a break. You could care less that JMart is asking Prince the tough questions, in fact you're happy that he is. It gives you something to begin asinine threads about.

Tim, Tell Prince he can quit with the act...all he's gonna be judged on is W's and L's.

Nah, that's bull@#%$.
Go back and check EVERYTHING I've written about Prince. There have been plenty of positive things, especially early on.
I've been plenty fair.
Scuba, what do you do, anyway? Just curious...
It's Bull@#%$ that I am on the fence regarding your reporting? Not sure why.
I have probably read just about everything you have written. I live in Wichita and subscribe to the Eagle. I frequent your Q&A on the Eagle's site. I've seen most, if not all of your posts here. Am I missing anything? Have I said you haven't been fair? It almost sounds as if you are trying to convince yourself. Maybe YOU should go back and check everything you have written. LOL.
What started this thread today was your justification of why you wrote what you did. It just smelled of BS to me. That's all. I suppose I could be wrong. I obviously don't know you personally, but I just get the impression that you write an article and then you and Levi go off to the bar and giggle about it. Sorry, that's just what I'm getting from you. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Financial Services, by the way.

I was invited to come here. I'm not a fan, but I like to stay on top of things.

I hope you keep visiting. I like the insight from your perspective.
Plus the chat room was hilarious. Usually I can't stand that stuff. But with the right mix of fans, like we have on this board, it's a frappin' riot.

Don't scare J-Mart off until he answers all of stunner's and my Mayo questions.

Bigger picture, Scuub.
Ahh.... Levi tips his hand at the dirty laundry expose to come on the seedy underbelly of what is the Prince regime.
Is that coming in Sunday's paper? I can't wait.
What's next? Is Ron making all of the assistant coaches work out and he secretly skips his work outs? Was he lying about reading a book a day? Did he secretly not set fire to his ship before he came ashore?
You know what I bet the situation really is? It's not really a story though. Prince just isn't quite seasoned enough to be a championship caliber coach. But everyone did pick us to finish last in the conference. That's not really a story is it?

Methinks one too many journalists have reported the dark side of Ksu and Scuba considers this his chance to strike back.
So there you have JMart... A disgruntled fan that was unhappy about your journalistic habits/reporting regarding his alma mater.
-
What darkside?
Why havent' you addressed any of my questions goldy?
-
"Prince to the media: "Competition for every position wins championships."
Prince to Freeman: "The jobs all yours baby."
He won the job, he beat out his competitor he is better than the guy he went up against. You'd make a @#%$ty football coach goldy.
No, he didn't win the job. He got the job because he's young and in the long haul, he gets experience playing now. Not because he's the clear cut better quarterback. Also, Meier has a 0% chance to take the position back. Which means no competition. And as we said before, Prince is pimping competition for all positions still.
-
What darkside?
Why havent' you addressed any of my questions goldy?
Which ones didn't I address?
And by darkside, I mean anything negative regarding Ksu's athletic department and its coaches/staff/players.
