Title: ku early tailgate menu
Post by: kcpowercat on November 01, 2009, 01:22:25 PM
I need ideas for butt crack of dawn tailgate menu.

I was thinking these?  Scotch Eggs?

Never had them but I guess it's like an egg, sausage, then fried?

then of course...minus the platter

You made them?  Difficulty?  Ability to make the night before and just heat up in the pitch black of early morning hungover?

pretty simple to make.   here's the recipe I use:

Quote
Here is the recipe (I made this up and it make 12 "eggs" so beware that this is a ton of food and you probably want to adjust down because MOST people find eating ONE of these to be a daunting task)

... pretty easy...

boil up 12 eggs

peel said eggs

mix 1 lb hot sausage (I use Jimmy dean) with 1lb sweet or notrmal sausage (again I use Jimmy Dean MAPLE sausage) and 3-4 teaspons of worcestershire... (add spices if you want.. I add a little thyme)

next beat one egg and set aside

next mix bread crumbs with paprika and pepper (not too much pepper or paprika) set aside

now the fun part... take a lump of sausage and flatten it in your hand (should cover your palm and then some...) the wrap sausage around an egg... repeat 12 times

then take sausage wrapped eggs and brush all of them with the beaten egg

then roll each in bread crumbs and stick on cooking sheet

Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes (depends on crispiness of outside layer, I recommend 40 minutes)

let cool and serve hot or cold... they are REALLY good, out of the fridge the next day

sweet.  I'm thinking these and then standard breakfast burritos for a backup.  Thanks.

We'll be having quite the spread.

An omelette bar with all the fixings; white onion, green onion, red onion, bell peppers, green chilis, mushroom, tomato, cheeses, traditional pork sausage, chorizo, bacon, ham, various seasonings (mexi, curry, spicy, etc.), Bloody Mary bar, maybe mimosas as well.

It's going to be glorious.

omelette bar seems like it would be too much fracking work for the chef (me)...I'd have to bring in a caterer for that....I need easy and good.

Not when you boil them.  You put your egg and your ingredients in a freezer zip lock back (write your name on it with a sharpie) and toss it in a vat of boiling water (setup on a turkey fryer).  Minutes later it's done, and amazingly delicious.  Everyone is their own chef.  The prep work to get things cut up is big, but that's easy enough to do in advance.

Just bought my tix.

Pete, I have been thinking that the "History Awaits" theme is absolutely a stroke of genius.  I expect a large (professional looking) banner and maybe even t-shirts.  The mocking potential for this is huge.

It'll only be weird if you show up, take some, sniff it repeatedly, then put it in your pocket.

Tailgates with food  :flush:*

*Insanely jealous of all of you with food. All the tailgates I go to usually only have beer.

Top Shelf

By the way, getting excited about new things isn't always a bad thing.  I mean at 17 did I think would be drinking mamosas and getting in to cheese and crackers?  NO WAY!  Does that mean these things are bad?  NO WAY!!!

I think it means you have more money and friends that aren't only interested in getting plowed before the game. Which I suppose does go along with being older/out of college. I usually just end up getting three hotdogs and a nacho due to the lack of food at tailgates.

Don't use all the early morning ideas up in one week with MU the next week.

Scotch balls (aka Chickenhawk eggs?  ) have made my menu for this week...I'm thinking maybe the omelette bar next week....

and since it's going to fan-tacular weather, post-game tailgate is in play for Saturday.  :excited: :excited:
