Self went first:

Self on Aldrich: "He can be the best true big man Kansas has had since Wilt."

Difficulty of the league: "The league is the best it's been since I've been in it and probably the best since the inception of it."

Also added that the 2008 national championship helped give credit to the Big 12 from a national standpoint, along with Beasley, Durant and Blake Griffin.

Capel just said guard Willie Warren is the best off-guard in college basketball and that Aldrich is the best center in the game.

Scott Drew went earlier. Gotta love that guy's energy. Sorry sys.

Colorado coach Jeff Bzdelik: "We aren't a good rebounding team. If we don't get better at that, there's not going to be much of a change in the wins and losses."

On a side note, entered the arena with Bzdelik. He got asked for credentials. His reaction, 'I'm a coach.' Usher replies: "Oh really, where?" I laughed.

Usher comment is great.

And Bz is right.  Throw NU and ISU in with that group also, 3 of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the country.  Texas Tech and OSU were also toward the bottom, I suppose the difference is OSU had enough athletes and a style of play to score enough and force enough TOs to make up for it.  Perhaps NU did that a bit as well.  But I don't think its any coincidence ISU, NU, Tech, and CU were 4 of the worst offensive rebounding teams in the league, and also 4 of the worst 5 teams in the league.

On a side note, saw Dexter Pittman at the media hotel last night as I was getting off the elevator. He is in the best shape of his career, looks a lot different. Weighed in a 281 pounds the other day, and Barnes said he's lost more than 100 pounds now since coming to Texas.

I'm still amazed at how well we've rebounded.  #1 Rebounding Offense, #3 Rebounding Defense in the Big 12 Overall.  It's single handedly the reason we were a decent team.  And probably will always be moving forward.

why does it surprise you that a frank martin coached team rebounds the ball well?  everything about frank martin screams that his teams will outwork their opponents.

Doc Sadler: "I guess the NCAA felt bad for us by giving us 14 scholarships. I guess they know how bad we are going to be."

On having size: "I don't know what I'll do with it. It's been so long since I've had a guy over 6-foot."

I take it as a bad sign that Sadler has hardly no voice at all. I mean, his voice is cracking like a little boy hitting puberty.

well, like, it surprises me because his team has actually done it.  a lot of coaches say they want to do things but then can't do them.  remember when wooly said he wanted to play "up tempo" before every year started? i'm sure doc and bzdfaselafdak and mcneck say they'd like to do a lot of things...and then their teams don't.  maybe I'm just surprised that we have what appears like a competent coach?

Pat Knight: "People were on my ass last year about giving up so many points." (talking about his team's inability to play man defense last season due to a lack of talent and depth).

Knight believes this is his best team since he got there and that they can go 12-deep. All most made it sound like he has too much talent and won't know who to play.

When the season ended, we went out to San Diego State and didn't play well the second half and got beat. Well, they didn't go home and cry to mom, and they didn't come in and feel sorry for themselves. They went right back in that gym, and they've both made themselves stronger because of the commitment they've made in the weight room. They've made themselves better athletes.

We were just in the back, Jacob Pullen and Merriewether and myself, we're laughing because when we go into strength camp the coach takes pictures of ourselves with boxers on. Every year he takes another picture.  When I saw his picture about a week ago, I  literally had a tough time eating later on in the day.

Pullen is completely different this year. He's a very good quote, can definitely tell he's a leader:

Here's something from him on K-State taking the next step: "When we’re doing certain things and you look to your left and someone doesn’t have energy and he doesn’t look like he really wants to be there, just remind him why he’s here, just remind him we played in the NIT last year. That’s not something as a person that’s been to the NCAA and enjoys the success of the NCAA, it’s not something that you do and you feel like, 'oh man, I really did something great, I went to the NIT.'

"You wanna go back to the NCAA. There’s nothing wrong with the NIT, but after being in the NCAAs, it’s like having a fine wine, you don’t want to go drink a cheap wine after that, you want a fine wine, it’s something that you want to do.

"You don’t get used to going back to the NIT. I don’t walk in the locker room after practice and say 'let’s work hard guys, NIT’s on the way,' just something you don’t do.

"As a team, we have five new faces, they don’t really understand what they’re working for because they haven’t had a taste of anything so you get to the point that you gotta keep explaining and keep letting them know that the NCAA Tournament is the standard and nothing under that, everything else is failure basically."
