Markieff Morris involved in traffic accident
LAWRENCE, Kan. ? Kansas University men’s basketball player Markieff Morris was involved in a two-car accident last month. According to a Lawrence police report, the car Morris was driving belonged to former ku player Scot Pollard.
At 1:14 a.m., on Sunday, Sept. 13, a city police officer was dispatched to Tennessee and 17th streets in Lawrence ? the scene of a two-car, non-injury accident.
According to the report, a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by current Jayhawks player Markieff Morris, 20, was traveling south on the right side of the two-lane street. Morris said he was preparing to make a left turn onto 17th, but as he did, he struck the rear passenger door of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am that was just ahead and to the left of Morris.
Though the report listed damage at or equal to $1000 to the Grand Am, Morris, three passengers in the Tahoe (a 20-year old male and two females ages 16 and 22) and two females in the Grand Am denied medical attention.
The responding officer indicated that there were no visible signs of impairment.
It is unclear whether Morris’ driving a car reportedly owned by a former Kansas player violates NCAA rules regarding improper benefits.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, a call to ku Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Jim Marchiony had not been returned; nor had an email to University of Kansas Compliance staff.
On Oct. 11, the men’s program, along with the football and women’s basketball team, is scheduled to conclude a three-year probation ? the result of the NCAA’s finding and ruling in April 2006 that the teams previously were operating under a “lack of appropriate institutional control.”
Recently, negative headlines, including a series of on-campus fights between the men’s basketball and football teams, as well as guard Brady Morningstar’s arrest last weekend for suspicion of DWI, have surrounded the program. Morningstar has been suspended until the second semester by head coach Bill Self ? a punishment handed down hours after the arrest news was made public.
Markieff Morris was one of several basketball players named as having been involved in the football/basketball altercations. Last December, Morris accepted a diversion agreement in Douglas County after pleading not guilty to shooting a woman with a BB gun from his apartment window in August.
Kansas has been tabbed No. 1 in several preseason polls and will open its season at home on Nov. 3 against Fort Hays State.

Clearly a violation.
And he had a 16 year old girl in Pollard's ride? statutory...

Again, more proof on why to avoid players who spend part of their career in Jersey. So glad Frank is sticking to NYC to recruit the New England area.

I would like to thank both the football and mens basketball team of the University of Kansas for making this basketball off season not boring. :piratecaptain:

Seriously. This is the most interesting part of the article IMO. Two dudes, two chicks, 1:14 a.m. One of the girls is a junior in highschool... hmmm

I said this with the drunk Morningstar and I'll say it here, looks like another drive by was averted. I can't even begin to think how many uk football players are alive just because of some dumb luck.
I bet the women were wearing blue bandanna's.? Just a hunch.

Just the excuse I was thinking would be made. Probably lost their parents in a car accident and he now takes care of his 4 younger siblings while also running the family restaurant.

From da phog:
Last year he ran and tried to hide from the cops in the stairwell of an adjacent building after shooting the cheesehead. This year, he stayed at the scene of the crime and owned up to it, like a man. That shows the level of growth and maturity that we are known for at the University of Kansas.

Ironic thing is, I asked my wife's brother in law (huge ku fan) 'what would be the story this week?'
His response: "we're just crossing them all off the list."
I didn't realize driving and wrecking Scot Pollard's par with a 16 year old and two others was next on the list. Learn something new every day.

What will the "spin" be?
Pollard was helping out a poor kid?
Any normal student could borrow a car from Pollard so it is not an improper benefit?
Morris never told Self so he couldn't report it?
One has to wonder how much cheating actually goes on when it takes a traffice accident to actually get caught.
Thank you Frank and 'Te for running a spotless program. :notworthy:

Pollard has been playing professional basketball for how long, 5-6 yrs? he drives a 1997 Tahoe? :flush:
-
Apparrantly it isn't Pollard's car any more. Pollard sold car to T. Taylor?
-
Jim Marchiony is now on KK's show saying the vehicle was sold by Pollard to Tyshawn Taylor. But when KK starts talking about how the police report states it was owned by Scot Pollard, Marchiony plays dumb and says it's no issue and that it's Tyshawn's not Pollard's, and that it's possible the wreck took place at the time the transfer between the two was taking place.
KK is grilling him. Pretty funny stuff.
-
Marchinoy is crashing and burning trying to explain this.
WOW. That will be a legendary radio clip.

Amazing...He faked a call drop! On-air coyote escape.

I'm thinking Marchiony hung up on KK. Couldn't take the heat.

Marchiony was in the process of explaining how they ensure the transactions are for fair value, but then mentioned that he had no idea this accident occurred and that 'i don't know everything that goes on.'
Then conveniently, he 'got into a bad reception area' and the call was dropped.
-

Just one of his cars he leaves in the sports complex parking lot in case he ever makes it back to Lawrence so he does not have to rent a car. Mr. Morris was just driving it around keeping it in running condition. DUH.

Jiffy Lube is open at 1 AM, right?
-
There is a meltdown going on in Lawrence. Marchiony sounded like he had been crying and then faked a dropped call.
paper work being created and back dated all over Lawrence now. I bet:
1. Taylor had talked to Pollard about buying the car, Pollard, let him test drive it...for 6 months.
2. There is no title transfer OR insurance transfer. The insurance will be the key one.
3. Morris will take any heat before Taylor does.
-
I find it hard to believe that the LPD wouldn't have the up to date records unless the transaction took place that same day. In that event, wouldn't the LPD official report have noted something along those lines?
There will be a lot of people backpedaling through lowrents as I pass thru on my way home from work tonight.
-

or...
maybe the transaction took place a few weeks later after the athletic department caught wind of the incident and forced pollard to sell it to taylor to make the claim that marchiony did that, 'everything is fine.'
-
meh, if he sold the vehicle, and the sale went through compliance, then it's a non issue.
at least morris is still &@#%ing a 16 year old. unless that was a loaner from taylor too.
-

Seems plausible to me.

By every definition Pollard is a "representative of athletic interests" for uk or ku, or whatever they call themselves this week.
So of course there's going to be anal puckering when information like this comes out. They just got off of 3 years of probation.
If they've got all the paperwork and it just didn't "Suddenly appear" all neat and clean, no big woof.
-
meh, if he sold the vehicle, and the sale went through compliance, then it's a non issue.
at least morris is still fracking a 16 year old. unless that was a loaner from taylor too.
It will be passed through compliance today.
Where did Taylor get $$ to buy a car?
-
I don't believe their probation ends until this weekend.
Juuuuuuuuuuust in the nick of time.

-
Tyshawn Taylor has been one busy son of a gun lately.
Tossin' punches and buyin rides.
Point plank'n baby.
-
Who cares about this sh*t? They won the national championship. Good for them.
-
I'm sorry, but there is no sane "compliance" department that would ever let a transaction like this happen. It screams of conflict, looks shady regardless of whether or not it actually is, and is just administratively burdensome.
Why would you even want to bother with the amount of paper work required to justify this transaction when you can find the same car 15 times in the Sunday paper.
Even if this is "legit" in the eyes of the NCAA, it's a horrible practice and speaks volumes to uk's idea of compliance.
-
here's the police report:
http://www.whbsports.com/kansas/stories/Morris-wreck.pdf
so not only is he fracking some 16 year old, he's fracking some 16 year old named taquana.
pfft..

Keep things in perspective. It's very possible that the sale from Pollard to Taylor was legit, but it still has a rank smell. What in Lawrence doesn't? It takes time for title to transfer on car sales, so I buy the story by the ku athletic dept--they'd have to be pretty stupid to lie about something that is so easy to verify.
The legit question is: Why are millionaire alum/former players selling cars to current players on the university basketball team? What's the story with the 16 year old girl in the car at 1:15 in the morning?
-
Doesn't Lawrence have a curfew? Manhattan did when I was Franking 16 year old girls.
of course I was 15 at the time...

Of course it stinks . . . it always stinks when you're talking about the ku basketball program; its surrounded by dirtbags, and booster wanna-be's who always want to have their fingers in everything, and "handlers" and "girlfriend cash" and everything else under the sun.
But I don't think this is any big deal really.

Assuming Pollard didn't have the 1997 Tahoe financed (would be extremely pathetic if he had to finance such a car).
It takes exactly 13 seconds to transfer title to a car in KS. You sign the back of it in front of a notary. Obviously this is difficult to do at 1:15am in the morning, but not impossible (most bail bondsmen are notary's [sp?]).
-
KK is absolutely embarrassing the uk fans calling in. Hell, they're embarrassing themselves.
-
LOL at ku caller saying that it's ridiculous that it is a violation for a former player to let a current player drive his car.
-
Another EDF gem...
The most remarkable aspect of this story is that one of the twins was able to pass the written portion of the driving test.
-
Regardless of what happens, Markieff better get himself a new phone number.

a. A DUI and Suspension
b. A brawl between the football and basketball team
c. A brawl between the football and basketball team
d. A brawl between the football and basketball team
e. shooting someone with a bb gun
f. fake HS math grades

Better to hold on that until January. But I'm sure the new number will be published by then anyway. Maybe Scott Pollard has an old phone he can "sell" him.

Also to transfer insurance. Should check and see when Tyshawn called his insurance company and asked them to issue insurance for the Tahoe. Also, takes 13 seconds.
The Marchiony Meltdown is becoming infamous. Is it linked up on the 810 website yet?
He just flipped.

Some students said losing virginity to the right person was important. Kylie Fernandez, Olathe junior, has been with her boyfriend for four years and has no regrets of having a sexual relationship with him.
“Not that our relationship is based on sex, but it has brought us closer,” Fernandez said. “If we didn’t have that kind of relationship and trust, we probably wouldn’t still be together.”

DMV takes time to show the change of title in official records, which is what the patrol officer taking the accident report has access to. My guess is that DMV records were not updated to show the title transfer, which can take weeks.
Alternatively, there was NOT a title transfer, and the ku athletic dept machine is working overtime to get to get a legit transaction in place to make everything peachy for Morris. I doubt it, examination of the records would show the true transaction date, unless there's a connection at DMV that's willing to risk their job for ku athletics. As inbred an parochial the Lawrence/Topeka connection is, it would not be out of the question.

Carfax shows 9 reports, $30 dollars gets you the rest of the story unless you have the 40 dollar unlimited package then it is free. Would bet that car has changed hands between the BBall team more than Miss Fernandez.

How many times has Marqueef hit someone?

btw, the curtis kitchen story is incorrect according to the accident report. melvin was in the victim's vehicle, not riding with morris. there was no female passenger in the victim's vehicle.
riding with morris were 16 year old dixon in the front passenger seat, and 22 year old fernandez in the seat behind her.
u digg 8-)

"License, registration and proof of insurance, please."
How stupid would you have to be to loan a vehicle, hell anything of value, to one of the Morris twins?

There you go sd.. car was owned by a team mate and there is no law against being out a 1:14 in the morning. Just like I guess it's not against the law to slip into the dark room of a drunk girl and pork her when she thinks you're someone else at 4am before your bowl game. By the way..old balls really took a stand on that one and they threw el away like the piece of trash he is.

Of course it stinks . . . it always stinks when you're talking about the ku basketball program; its surrounded by dirtbags, and booster wanna-be's who always want to have their fingers in everything, and "handlers" and "girlfriend cash" and everything else under the sun.

b. A brawl between the football and basketball team
c. A brawl between the football and basketball team
d. A brawl between the football and basketball team
e. shooting someone with a bb gun
f. fake HS math grades

Could we pin up something like this? To be quite honest, I'm having a hard time following all of the shenanigans going on over at uk.

Assuming Pollard didn't have the 1997 Tahoe financed (would be extremely pathetic if he had to finance such a car).
It takes exactly 13 seconds to transfer title to a car in KS. You sign the back of it in front of a notary. Obviously this is difficult to do at 1:15am in the morning, but not impossible (most bail bondsmen are notary's [sp?]).
That's crap. As soon as you take the title to your county treasurer, and they type in the info, it changes at the DMV.

Hey, did you dudes see where Dez Bryant is suspended by the NCAA because he lied to NCAA investigators. True Story.
Anyways, I sure hope Tyshon doesn't make the same mistake.

Sources say Pollard was the registered owner of the vehicle at the time of the accident.
I have to say if you dislike ku you couldn't ask for anymore than Marchiony and Pollard going on air, and on record, with statements that appear to be completely fraudulent.
I'd bet we will find some back dated compliance documents. I will also bet there is no way that Tyshawn ever gave Pollard a singel cent for that vehicle. Surely Pollard will have a check from Taylor showing such payment and bank records that prove there was actually a transfer of funds.

Tag was not up or he would have been sited. People with P in their last name don't have to renew their registration until October or November. Also it should be noted that the the tag on the SUV was POL 725 using the old system. After 2007 or so Kansas went to a different tag system so if Taylor would have registered that SUV is would have had a completely different tag and if not Pollard was lying about removing the tag. :woot:

True, it wasn't expired at the time of the accident. It is now. If he did sell it to Taylor, Taylor wasn't supposed to driving with Pollard's tag. That come's under "Illegal Tag".

It says it was 1997 Chevy Tahoe, owned by Scott Pollard, that was registered through 09-2009, meaning it expired on midnight October 1st. It says that it's current, but the state is notoriously slow in updating that section.

also, lol at pollard saying he took the tags off when he sold it, but the tag on the car when morris got pulled over at one in the morning with a sixteen year old in the front seat was still pol725.
sure seems that a former ku basketball player was letting a current ku basketball player use his car to chauffer sixteen year old girls around town at 1:00am. :nono:

Pollard was the19th pick of 1997 draft.
In August of 2000, he purchases a 1997 Tahoe...and finances it in KC? (Assuming he spent summers in Lawrence)
NINE years later, said Tahoe has not been paid off? Do banks even carry notes on vehicles for more than maybe six years?
It's almost like he never really purchased or owned the vehicle. Like the loan is fraudulant? Perhaps ku has owned the vehicle since 2000, and it was simply time to pass it down. Wonder if Tyshawn received a similar loan?

Great point. Doesn't seem logical that he bought it that long ago. Seems like maybe he purchased it more recently for some other reason. Someone run a carfax for f^ck sakes. They are only like $10 right? It will have the entire vehicle sales history. :dunno:

Reason's it still shows the loan.
1) Still paying on it (doubtful)
2) Used it as collateral on a non related loan (possible)
3) Had a loan but never had it cleared from the title (most likely but to sell the car to Taylor it would have to be released by the bank, the bank most likely still had the title and so he would have had to get the bank to send it to him.)

In each of the scenarios you describe, the "benefit" of driving a car without paying property taxes was clearly given to the buyer if the seller did not provide the buyer with the title yet let the buyer drive the vehicle anyway.
Not paying hundreds of dollars while getting the use of car is a benefit.

Reason's it still shows the loan.
1) Still paying on it (doubtful)
2) Used it as collateral on a non related loan (possible)
3) Had a loan but never had it cleared from the title (most likely but to sell the car to Taylor it would have to be released by the bank, the bank most likely still had the title and so he would have had to get the bank to send it to him.)
Agree this is the most likely. Banks often fail to release liens after retail loans are paid off (nobody has ever lent on a car for 12 years, and almost nobody lends on equity in used cars[this is reserved for Title Loan co's and other enterprises whose shadiness is in parity with uk]).
What probably didn't happen:
You can't register a car that is encumbered with a lien. Tyshawn probably found this out when he was at the DMV after Pollard took the tags off  to promptly register his new car he just bought so he wouldn't be driving around illegally and w/o tags. Then when he was all upset about not getting to pay the sales tax, tag fees, etc. he probably called Scot and said dude I need you to get the lien released on my new Tahoe, Point Plankn! Scot was all  and  at the bank. Scot then took the 1 minute it takes to call the bank and tell them to release the lien, then the bank made the necessary 8 mouse clicks to do so. Tyshawn, still standing in line at the DMV then registered the car, paid the taxes, got the inspection done, received his new tags and drove off happily.
Then Markeif was all, "Ty I need your new ride to escort some jail bait around town tonight". Tyshawn was like, "don't be muggin' here's da keys, just don't wreck it you mongaloid". Markeif was like, "bro, I'm an excellent driver, shut yo face for a hit you in da mowf, I drive slow in the driveway on Sundays".

No inspection required in Kansas. Otherwise, spot on.

Not quite "spot on". When Lurch originally titled the car on 8-7-2000, the banks didn't keep the title. It would have mailed back to Lurch, from the Dept of Revenue, showing the lien. It's also proven that he didn't take off Lurch's tag, since it was on there at the time of the accident. The driver was guilty of an Illegal Tag at that time, if Taylor actually had purchased the car. I'm curious if it actually had valid insurance through State Farm. Hopefully, the LPD investigates it just a little bit more. Doubt it though.

So he bought his first "NBA car" in 2000? What is that like 3 years after he was drafted. Anyone else think that Pollard holds the record for least pussy ever gotten by a professional athlete?

Taylor listed as owner of Tahoe
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sports Radio 810 WHB has learned the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe involved in a two-car, non-injury accident last September, that totaled the other car, is currently co-owned by University of Kansas men’s basketball player Tyshawn Taylor, and his mother.
Though his insurance information was provided on a police report, Taylor was not involved in a two-car accident that was reported at 1:14 a.m. on Sept. 13. Taylor’s teammate, Markieff Morris, was identified in the report as driver and instigator of the accident.
A check, issued for an amount of $6,271, was issued on Oct. 5 to the driver of the totaled 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.
An insurance policy for Taylor was issued on Aug. 27. The exact date that Taylor assumed legal ownership of the Tahoe from former ku player Scot Pollard, whose name was listed as owner in the police report, could not be verified.
Pollard appeared on Between the Lines on Wednesday, telling host Kevin Kietzman that he sold the Tahoe to Taylor “in late July or early August.”
Earlier in the program, ku Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Jim Marchiony told Kietzman that the entire transaction between Pollard and Taylor was valid.
“Everything is legal,” Marchiony said. “It is not a compliance issue.”
