Will be finished in time for 2010 season.
Don't worry, I'm sure your ancient club seating is better than our brand new one.

Looks like complete garbage. Build a new stadium, dork.
-
Looks nice.
Love the logic though . . . Club Seating at K-State that's 11 years old . . . .ancient. ku football stadium that's 80 years old . . . not ancient.

Anybody else notice that they brought back the huge clipart football guy on each end of the club seating? LMAO.

Not bad...how many suites does it add to the stadium? 3000 seats added? what donation level to get them? Give up some stats, not renderings with clip art football players.
Seems like ku should spend some money fixing what they have, bathrooms, etc...

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/sep/17/regents-approve-expansion-memorial-stadium/?football (http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/sep/17/regents-approve-expansion-memorial-stadium/?football)
Topeka — The Kansas Board of Regents all but did the wave.
The board on Thursday approved a $34 million addition of high-dollar seating on the east side of Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium, and praised the proposal.
Under the deal, Kansas Athletics Inc. will direct $40 million — a portion of revenue expected from the sale of 3,000 Gridiron Club seats — to academic programs at ku.
Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little called the proposal a “signal event.” She said it will increase the seating capacity, add to the stadium’s aesthetics, and pump money into academic programs.
And just a few hours after getting permission to move forward, the athletics department launched an aggressive campaign to encourage Jayhawk fans to sign a five to 30 year contract for the seats, at costs ranging from $30,000 for those who sign the five-year contract to $105,000 for those who sign on for 30 years.
All payments will be required up front and ku, according to its Web site, hopes to have the building up in time for the 2010 football season.
According to information that ku is providing on its new Web site devoted to the project, fans can choose from indoor seating, outdoor seating or a combination of the two.
In a letter to donors on that site, Athletic Director Lew Perkins said the new facility was needed to finance not only the academic contribution, but also upgrades to other Olympic sport facilities, including the Olympic Sports Village, which was unveiled earlier this year.
“It would be easy to take a breather, but now is not the time to rest. We must continue our momentum,” Perkins wrote.
Those who purchase the Gridiron will receive Williams Educational Fund Priority Points based on the length of the contract they sign and will be able to pass on their suites to a family member, or sell the suite to someone else if they choose to give it up.
The Williams Fund will hold presentations about the club every Tuesday and Thursday starting Tuesday and running until Nov. 12. The sessions last from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Room of the Anderson Family Football Complex.
Regent Donna Shank said she has read about universities in other states donating athletic funds to academics and was proud to have the same thing happening in Kansas.
“Congratulations to you. Bravo,” Shank said to Gray-Little.
The cost of the project will be paid by Kansas Athletics.
Gray-Little said no decision has been made yet on specific areas to spend the money that is earmarked for academics.

CLIPART STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clipart. LOL at these losers.
-
All that an NO suites? Nice work idiots....I can't believe ku doesn't think they can get more out of those this year, those are pretty cheap...of course 2 years from now?
-
Those renderings are awful. Exterior design is pretty mediocre if you disregard the clip art. Completely laughable including the clipart. Interior looks about as cheap as possible. Acoustic ceiling tile and grey carpet. The stairs aren't even to code. I like the amount of glass, but once they put in the rest of the columns, it won't look nearly as nice.

These people go to the game to watch it on T.V.? Can you even see the field from there. Good Grief your fans suck. Go to the game to see the game not sit in lounge chairs and watch a t.v.
-
Who's the architect?
-
Are they planning on doing the clip art quality figures on the side?
Looks solid, but gotta get rid of those things
-
There really is nothing special about that stadium and regardless of how they arrange the tables in the lounges, it will never be special. And I don't say that because of our stadium, but rather by what I've seen on the road. My suggestion is for ku to build something with a little character, something that will make people around the nation take notice. Unfortunately, the biggest problem for ku is it's fans in the stands; absolutely horrible from student section to alumni. I will admit that they are getting better at tailgating, but that enthusiasm dies at the gate.

We may be burying you in the facilities arms race and piling the dirt on with a fleetfull of skid loaders, but on the field come gameday our programs are still neck-and-neck.

ew2x4 is awesome, and dead on.
That stadium will remain a POS for years to come, apparently.

Adding seating structure w/o private suites....maybe the dumbest thing I've ever seen by an AD. Nice work.
You just reproduced what KSU did years ago minus more regular seating and more suites. Wow, color me impressed.

Explain how you're burying us by building something we've had for 10 years? Maybe we should tear ours down and rebuild it to look more like a hospital cafeteria so we won't get left in the dust by ku.

I know plenty about HNTB, thanks. They've done a few decent sports projects, but mainly renovations and they specialize in mostly other building types. A typical huge firm. Not like, oh for instance, HOK Sports/Populous that specializes in sports and venue building types. Now that is a huge list of projects.

It's like if KSU just put a window in front of 1 section of the west side of the stadium and called it a suite.

It's similar to in-breeding, you know it's gonna come out looking like a retarded jack-a-lope with 3 eyez or some crap. But ku alums just have to strong of a desire to give their cousins the 'business'.

I think the saying goes, "you can put a silk hat on a pig, but at the end of the day - you still have a pig". Congrats on the clipart.
-
Looks like a great place to watch a track meet.

I like how you can still see all the match stick construction through the new exterior facade. Would be like a fat chick in a transparent negligee. Like, the effort was there, but it still doesn't hide what is behind it.
-

That's awful.
Let's be honest here. I like that they are making an investment, but this is crap. Its a free standing building that does nothing to hide the ugly exterior on the east side. Plus, how smart is it to spend that money to build onto 90 year old concrete?
I'm disappointed that the decision wasn't made to tear down the stadium and build new on the same spot. What Minnesota did was impressive, and you could build a modern 55,000 seat stadium for $200-$250 million. Instead, we get a bolt on building like Camerohead, except this one is about a quarter mile from the field itself.
I'm just underwhelmed.

Good Lord. Get rid of the track already. That should have come before pleather endzone seats and the club seating that's apparently for midgets. It's embarassing to the rest of the Big 12. Don't be shy, you can ask other schools what's cool and what's not.
Hint: Facilities full of clipart everywhere and high school tracks around your field are not considered cool. HTH.

LOL at thinking HOK and HNTB aren't virtually a KSU alumni chapter. Does ku even have a arch program?
I applaud Lew for finally stepping up and joining the Big XII in the 1990's. I just wish it would be done before my elite east coast friends from Duke come in for the game. I will have to show them some pictures and some clipart to try and improve their opinion of the Big XII.
Indeed they do, Arch. and Architectural Engineering. I was an engineering student myself, know MANY ku grads with HOK/HNTB
Many more KSU grads.
Congrats... you're one step away from being a technical school.
-
Holy sh*t... the invalidation levels on this board just went through the roof. Invalidators unite!!!
Ben's cueing up for another meltdown.
LOL . . . yeah, lots of Technical Schools have Top 10 Architecture Schools.
Speaking of invaldiation . . . Bentard just can't let anything go, he's zero to  in .08 seconds. Sad the kid can't control his emotions.

And your stadium is still a piece of crap, have fun hanging out with your new fat girlfriend.

I'm just in awe at the invalidation session that broke out. K-State fans can't stand the fact that ku is killing your school on the field and in the facilities race. Quite sad, actually. Poor guys.

K-State's architecture program deals more with cookie cutter residential housing and that kind of stuff. Very technical school-esque. ku's architecture program is much more modern and innovative, and is incorporating green technologies and other futuristic elements into their designs. I know... a friend of mine is an architecture major at ku, and he considered both schools (both his bro's went to K-State).

Ben . . . when you make statements like that did you ever stop to think that K-State has had a 2,000 seat stadium club since 1999?? Did you ever stop to think that K-State has nearly twice as many suites in its football stadium than ku does??
Of course you didn't, you're just too  all the time to think rational fashion.
How about that dedicated football only indoor practice facility, does Mangino have one at his disposal any time he wants it, that's 140 yards long and 80 yards wide, with Field Turf?? No . . .no he doesn't. But that's right, you're "Killing" K-State on the facilities race.
In terms of your knowledge of K-State's architecture program, you don't know $hit, all you know is what one of your dumba$$ friends told you . . . your anecdotal BS doesn't tell us anything. Face reality, the most comprehensive Architecture School rating system in the world says that K-State's school of Architecture is in the TOP 10 . . . and ku's isn't, simply deal with it. Of course you little ku buddy is going to tell you ku's is better because he needs to validate himself.

Our law school is top 50. What exactly is K-State great at, by the way? Soil judging?

I think uk finally got accredited a few years ago... basically their architecture school wasn't even recognized.
top 50 is laughable...
ku's architecture and engineering programs are much more innovative and modern than K-State's. Your programs are more centered around construction science. I know this because one of my best friends chose ku's architecture program over k-State's for this exact reason.
ku's programs aren't more "innovative" nor are they more "modern". In fact, the only non-modern architecture school is Notre Dame's who's focus is on a beaux-arts style of design. The fact you trying to quantify this shows your knowledge of the situation.
As for KSU's architecture program, it's not centered around "construction science" as you like to put it. That's what a construction science degree is for. There are major focuses on construction, though. Considering the most important job for an architect is properly communicating to a contractor how to build whatever is being designed, I'd say major focuses on construction are important. ku seriously lacks in this department, and it shows in the work force. This does not detract from the design focus, though. Despite your best (seriously? this is your best?) assumptions, I can guarantee you there is absolutely no focus on "cookie cutter housing." In terms of professors, I can think of 2 ku professors that would be top notch designers. KSU has 10 that I can think of, not including the handful of new ones from last year. Well, you know what, I'm just going to stop. Pulling third hand opinions out of your ass must have been painful enough.

It's true, guys. AD John Currie is extremely concerned about losing the facilities race to ku. Fear not, however! He assembled a crack team to match ku step for step.
Without further ado, I give you K-State's response to ku's masterful renovation job:

Your problem Ben is that we all think that's a funny picture.
But then again, we have a sense of humor.
As far as the basketball facility goes, there's a lot going on now the ADJC has had a chance to get his feet under him.

Hmmm...Yeah K-State's Arch program is crap. BMW your "friend" doesn't know what he is talking about.
Academic programs in the K-State College of Architecture, Planning and Design were ranked as follows in the 2009 nation-wide survey of leading firms across the United States:
bachelor of interior architecture/design programs - first;
master of interior architecture/design programs - second;
bachelor of landscape architecture program - second;
master of landscape architecture program - eighth;
master of architecture program - eleventh
The only part of ku's program that I like is studio 804 sorry.

So....do some ku fans really think their Architecture program is better than KSU's? Cause.....thats probably the dumbest statement I've heard in a very very long time. Thats like saying KSU has a better law school or med school than ku.
&@#%ing dumb asses.

By the way...
Proud to say my sister is in the Interior Arch/Design program. :dancin:

One thing you have learn about ku folks is that they practically turn violent if you try and tell them that K-State is better at something than ku. In several areas where both ku and K-State has the same programs, K-State is better . . . they just can't handle that reality very well, which is why they react the way they do. But we're the ones with the "complex" . . .
Look at how their administration reacted when K-State announced it's Olathe Innovation Campus . . . they were over in Topeka crying and demanding to be a part of it within hours. Within seconds after it was announced that the NBAF was coming to Manhattan, ku officials were over in Topeka crying to the Kansas Bio-Sciences Authority to fund a cancer research center for them. There's actually a pretty high amount of research collaboration between the two schools, but make no mistake about it . . . they cannot stand any success at K-State, and hate the thought of K-State getting something that they don't have.
Go back a few years and look at how they reacted when Wichita State contemplated opening up a Dental Medicine School . . . the folks at ku came unfreakingglued . . . which is why there's not any dental schools in Kansas, so if you're a Kansas kid and want to become a dentist, the closest you've got is UMKC or Creighton.

Anyone know where K-State is ranked in US News' top 100 universities?
-
Not that high Ben . . . now explain to us how a school who had a Chancellor who made it his public mission to put ku in the Top 25 of all 4 year national public universities in the United States . . . and every year, ku fell further and further down the list??
But that doesn't stop reality, in at least two areas where both ku and K-State have the same college/school . . . K-State is better.
-
2 ?'s
Did Tom (Sem Group) Kavisto "donate" funny money to this project too ?
And, would you pay premium $ to view a ballgame from above what is currently the TOP row ? :ohno:

Well, the crowd in the video had about the same number of ku fans as usually attend a game. Oh yeah, and is the sign that says "Gourmet Food" actually over a vending machine?? Looks like a Mangino special!

Well, the crowd in the video had about the same number of ku fans as usually attend a game. Oh yeah, and is the sign that says "Gourmet Food" actually over a vending machine?? Looks like a Mangino special!
Attendance for the first home game of the season:
ku: 52.530 (all-time record)
K-State: 50.750

Yahhh . . . ku which gave away thousands of complimentary tickets had 500 more people at their game than K-State did . . . you go ku!!

This is great, and just in the timing I predicted before the season ever started. ku will go 5-0, and will have their mindless fans clamoring about the fact that their program is climbing in the rankings. 5-0 will be their record before reality sets in. Then....then, reality sets in. The jays play in the Big 12! You know, the conference where their winning percentage is .300 and some change? Yeah, THAT conference. Then watch the 2-6 roll in.
