Didn't ku hand out tickets to several thousand students a few years back?
Guess my ku buddies who claimed to have gotten free tickets were liars...

The student sports package includes a complimentary ticket for the first game of the season.
So they were free tickets.
Thanks for the clarification.
Hmm...in that case, I concede. I misspoke. Let me rephrase:
Didn't all the ku students get "complimentary" tickets?
Another promising year . . . and Lew Perkins has to embark on yet another high dollar, viral ticket campaign to try and get tickets moving.
Only 51,000 seats to fill . . . 28,000 students, mere minutes from KC, 100,000 plus alumni within 2 hours . . . thousands of tickets of still available for the 2009 Big 12 North Preseason Champions.

Don't worry about ku. Worry about the fact that K-State ticket sales have been decreasing for five straight years, and that your AD is so desperate, they're selling single game tickets for $9 a pop. Desperate times call for desperate measures. K-State football... fighting for 5th place in the North. Come get your tickets while they're hot!

Thank God you think Phil Steele is an idiot, otherwise you might have to entertain the prospect that ku will finish behind the Wildcats in the Big 12 North. You can trust I'll have a hardy laugh in December if that plays itself out.

The worst seats in the stadium sold for $9 dollars, as opposed to handing out thousands of "complimentary" tickets? Season ticket sales at K-State declined 11% over 5 years, that's a loss of 600 season tickets a year . . .that's hardly earth shattering.
This isn't about K-State Ben, this is about ku supposedly on the verge of making history, and yet the AD has got to embark on a massive advertising campaign to try and get tickets moving.
Yeah Ben, and it being 31 to nothing at half had nothing to do with idiot decisions made by Prince during the game, and K-State not playing 1 iota's worth of field position football.
Sometimes I wonder if you know anything about the game at all.
But what that has to do with the fact that ku ad must engage in a massive media and advertising campaign (as per usual) to try and move tickets for the 2009 Big 12 North Pre-Season Champions I'll never know.

It could have been a lot worse than 52-21. Your team sucks. You have no good players on offense aside from Brandon Banks. Your o-line/d-line are a joke. Blame coaching all you want, but the bottom line is that ku absolutely kicked the sh*t out of K-State last season. ku will be even better next year, while K-State loses a top 20 NFL Draft pick at QB, Ian Campbell, Deon Murphy, etc, etc.
ku doesn't have 51,000 season ticket holders. Thanks to K-State, ku has competition for ticket sales, unlike schools such as Mizzou and Nebraska. Hopefully K-State will continue its descent into 1980's status and ku will continue winning over the bandwagon in-state fans. Another ass whooping in Manhattan next season would really get the ball rolling.
i don't see how ku will be better.
Why, because they have to replace Holt, Rivera, and Mort? News flash: none of those guys were NFL draft picks. Holt was essentially a strong safety. Mort and Rivera played banged up all year and were horrible in pass coverage. The '08 class was Mangino's best recruiting class until the '09 class came along. This is the most depth and quality talent that Mangino has had since he's been here.
Newsflash: you can't pick and choose your arguments. one year you are telling us mcanderson and james mcclinton were studs despite the fact the NFL didn't touch em, now it's the opposite? the nfl knows all? :rolleyes:i don't see how ku will be better.

But K-State isn't ku's rival right?? So why is beating K-State so important??
Plus I am not saying ku should have 51,000 season ticket holders, but given the amount of money Lew is clearly spending, its quite apparent there are literally thousands of season tickets still available.
Wow, what apathy.

Does the "apathy and lack of ticket sales" mystique come from your ability to request tickets online Daxitive?

So when the ku ticket system assigns actual seats, and says they are "reserving" them, it's telling a lie?? When it says "We are RESERVING the best seats possible" . . . they aren't reserving those seats??
So the ku ticket system says tickets are available . . . but they're really not available?? Fascinating.
Only Tardville could come up with that . . . LOL.
When the ku ticket system says "We are holding your reservation for X minutes" (or something like that). . . they're not really holding any reservations at all??
Great stuff Doc . . . seriously excellent.

No.
What is this, Mangino's 8th year? By Snyder's 8th year we were averaging like 48,000 a game in a 45,000 seat stadium and that was with a completely retarded athletic director (running theme @ ksu)
Kind of sad that KSU can't get more fans to the stadium than ISU can to theirs :frown:

Nothing really, I just find it amusing. A team that has won less than 10 games in the last three years still outdraws ksu..interesting. Looks like there will be more red than purple at arrowhead.

Shocking how that works considering that it is technically an Iowa State home game. I laugh at squawks who keep bringing that up, making it sound like it's some kind of arduous journey from Iowa to Arrowhead.
so much so, that I just reserved over 5,000 family plan tickets.

Self . . . ku is doing a good on the recruiting trail, but it's not like there's some kind of massive gap in talent between who K-State is likely going to land this year, over who ku is likely to land this year. Come on man, ku ain't Texas or USC.

Texas and USC are elite football programs that attract top talent. Obviously we are not on their level; I never claimed that we were. Still, ku staff is selling the program and we are going to continue to improve. Hopefully fans notice this improvement and it can generate some interest in the program resulting in ticket sales/improved gameday atmosphere.

That's 300 Family Zone Packs . . . that's about 1200 of the cheapest tickets still left for "History Awaits".
I just reserved 594 "family packs". Hmmm . . .
if ku averages 51000 per game does it really matter how many tickets you can reserve now? Fact is they are on pace to set another record for season tickets sold, been going up for 5 years now why ksu has been declining. don't really understand your "ku still has season tickets" moral victory here dax.so much so, that I just reserved over 5,000 family plan tickets.

The main point was that there is nothing close to an insurmountable, or frankly any clearly discernible talent gap between who ku will likely sign this year, and who K-State will likely sign this year.
So you're declaring a clear cut recruiting victory on August 2nd??you seem to be declaring a clear cut "season ticket sales" victory on Aug 2, even though ku is on pace to beat last years record number of season tickets.
Jovanta Boyd was a 3 star out of High School, with offers from 2 SEC schools, 2 ACC Schools and a Big East School and is sticking with K-State.
ku and MU offered Adam Davis . . . oh wait, wait, Davis was one of those "you'll just have to wait and see, because we've got guys lined up around the corner to play here" ku offers (that has nothing to do with the fact that ku will only sign 15-16 guys ).
But really . . . August 2nd??

LOL . . . you're just not very bright sometimes hawks . . . I am lampooning the fact that ku must undergo massive marketing campaigns in order to get the "fans" rallied to buy tickets for "History Awaits". Here it is August, and ku is burning up the airwaves and billboards with ads trying to find enough folks willing to buy tickets for the 2009 Big 12 North Pre-Season Champions. It's only a 50,000 seat stadium, on a traditional campus, with 28,000 students, in a town of 100K, with over 100K alumni within an hour or two, just down the road from KC. I would have thought "history awaits" would've pretty much sold itself.it's hard to get the bball fans to watch football, i think they are scared of the violence. :scarymovie:

I don't believe that you believe what you just typed. Plus, its "discernable".
The fact that ku football is getting this kind of preseason recognition is really killing 'Pad. You can literally feel the hate and denial emanating from his posts. Oh, and by the way, 'Pad... ku's recruiting class completely shames K-State's.

Pretty ironic considering that K-State's only decent commitment is planning on taking all five official visits. No way Demarcus Robinson ends up at K-State.

Zach Bolton...new commit. Look at the offer list. :)
Still amazes me people get all caught up in the recruiting rankings. ku went to the Orange bowl with mostly two stars. Per the experts they have been recruiting better and now I look at their roster and frankly it's not nearly as talented as it was a couple of years ago. Everytime ku gets a 4 star recruit he ends up sucking. The DB from TX who I don't think is on the team, the twin WR/DB from Lawrence I don't know what happened to him, the juco OT from Aussie, The rapist jc RB, the lb from TX that switched to ku from UT after UT dropped him for disciplinary reasons. To a man these guys have all sucked but ku fans still get excited about these rankings.
When I looked at ku's roster and prefall two deep the other day I was surprised at what I saw. A team that is weak in the o-line with a freshman 260 pound converted TE starting at OT, another freshman starting a guard, a walk who played TE at air force on the two deep at OT. No depth at RB behind Sharp.
On defense ku has two guys listed as starters who were back ups on offense last season and have never taken a snap on defense. They've got no depth at DE with a walkon on the two deep and they are counting on true freshman. The LB corp isn't very good, secondary isn't very good outside of Stukey. DL is marginal.
KSU has it's own issues on it's roster but honestly when I started looking at ku I was surprised at the holes they have. I don't look at that depth chart and see a division champion. NU for instance is much deeper and stronger pretty much everywhere but WR and QB. To me football is still about the trenches I don't see ku winning the division just with good QB and WR play.

We're going to be good at football forever.
Agreed with Ben.
uk is the deepest/most talented team in Big XII. Filthy loaded. If they don't win the Big XII it's because Mangino totally spit the bit with superior talent. I'd hate to see this happen because it would be a clear message to recruits that he cannot win even when loaded like a howitzer.
After reading Ben's breakdown, I am not afraid to say they should pound UT and OU. And with that weak non-con, they should be undefeated when they face USC/Uf in the national title game. Sad uk fans aren't showing up to see this juggernaut. maybe they will after uk rolls UT. I hope so for their sake. :hope:

Either you're in some hardcore denial, or you just don't know what the f*ck you're talking about when it comes to ku football.
1. ku is far from weak on the o-line. Jeremiah Hatch, Jeff Spikes, John Williams, Sal Capra, and Tanner Hawkinson will form a very good o-line next season. Hawkinson is up to 285 and has quick feet and good instincts. Mangino has had a lot of success converting tight ends to o-tackle. Hawkinson has a chance to be one of the best lineman Mangino has had.
2. No depth at running back behind Sharp? Did you attend ku's spring game? Did you see Rell Lewis? Have you heard of Daniel Porter? Have you heard of Toben Opurum? If there's anyone that doesn't have sh*t at running back, it's K-State.
3. No depth at d-end? Jake Laptad had 7 sacks last season and 2 forced safeties. Max Onyegbule is finally coming into his own. Quinton Woods committed to Michigan out of high school and has been tearing it up in summer workouts. Kevin Young will see the field right away as a true freshman. ku's got plenty of depth at d-end.... this is the first year since '05 that ku will have a solid pass rush from the d-end position.
4. Arist Wright, Steven Johnson, Angus Quigley, Vernon Brooks, Justin Springer, etc, etc. at LB to start the season. More athleticism and explosiveness at linebacker than what we've had in the past. Brooks was a juco AA with offers to OU and Tennessee.
5. The d-tackle position is stacked with Greene, Johnson, Parish, Blakesley, etc. ku goes at least 4-deep at DT with a couple guys who would start at just about any other school in the North.
Seriously, stick to something you know about, because you are absolutely clueless when it comes to ku. Should be quite the eye opener when ku rolls into Manhattan and creams your group of D-2 scrubs by about 6 TD's.
Agreed with Ben.

James McClinton was Big 12 DPOY and a 2nd-team AA. McAnderson was a 1,000+ yard rusher. Rivera and Mort were solid in run defense, but were not very good at pass coverage. Holt was a converted strong safety. I'm just saying, it's not like they're impossible to replace. ku has Arist Wright and Justin Springer coming back who are both solid. Vernon Brooks, a Juco AA LB, had offers to Oklahoma and Tennessee. Angus Quigley and Steven Johnson are both in the 6'3 240 mold and can really cover some ground. Aside from that, the secondary returns everyone and adds depth. The d-line returns everyone and adds depth. ku will play more of a 4-2-5 defense anyways, so additional speed and pass coverage ability at LB should only help ku's cause defensively.
