The general consensus is that those in the Greek thinks they're elite because they are Greek. The rest of campus thinks they're douche bags. There's no right or wrong way, just decide which group you want to be in and go for it.

It all depends on what kind of scene you are looking for.  Fraternities are good for the social aspect of college.  Dorms can be too.  If you can handle being told what to do when to be there and what to wear for most all functions then fraternities are fun.  I didn't really like that life.  I never lived in the dorms so can't comment of them, but having an apartment was the best.  If I had it to do over again I would do the dorms for 1 year meet some cool guys then find a house/apt to rent after that.

Warning: sometimes too much freedom = failing out of school.  A

I would rush and maybe schedule other summer visits to meet some guys/tour the house.  Good way to see what it's about and then decide if it's for you and, if it is, to decide which you are most comfortable with.

Don't rush.  They'll try to sucker you in with strippers, then once you pledge make you give them good morning rimjobs.

The best way to go about it is to live in a dorm when you're a freshman, then get an apartment from there on out.

When I graduate I am definitely going to rush.  Frat guys get all the hot chicks and you always got an older guy to buy you beers or wine coolers.  I am not sure which house.  Maybe triangle.  RD and I are talking about which ones are the best.

there are some definite douches in the greek system, but you can be your own dude, live your  own life, etc. even if you decide to do a frat. i'm still involved in many non-greek things.

i just like it because its almost a guaranteed way to make some friends, create stories, and all that stuff. it feels good to be a part of something. but like i said, there are some tools. beware. just don't get so into the fratmosphere that you get the 'elite' thing going like KITNfury said.

just find a house that you can get along with the guys in. and there's always the partying aspect, if you're into that. frats tend to booze, which i enjoy.

For younger EMAW's... check out the system for yourself like SD was saying. I joined a smaller house (50 inhouse) and loved it. Can be more expensive tho, especially when you move out of house and pay $100 a month to stay a member.

The whole failing out deal is a generalization. The all fraternity GPA on campus is higher than the all male average GPA at KSU. They are what you make out of it. It you are joining them just for booze and chicks, those are the first guys to get kicked out of a house.

Also, FarmHouse is for faggots.

You could start out at the dorms and find out for yourself that only queers live there and then join a house as a spring pledge.  That way during the first semester you will only be around the queers in the dorms while you are not looking for a house to join.  Good luck.   :beerchug:

LSOC - yeah sure you "bros" can rush!  But as for the beer, I'm not of age yet.  I'm sure one of my bras will be glad to hook us up!

All I have to do is ask and BOOM case of stones just like that.

If you do join a frat here are some terms you should familarize yourself with

Bro, Brosef, Broehama,Broski, Bra, Braski, frat castle, frat daddy, FratTastic, Frat Potato, Fratmosphere, Shacker, PermaShacker, Shacker Gear, Top Siders, Polo, Cargoless shorts, Walk of shame.

If you have any other question I would visit www.frattinghard.com

The craziest frat story I have is that one time we had like 3 mikes hard lemonades then went to the library! Tim(we call him Timski) was really feeling it and ended up walking up to a group of HOT chicks studying for an accounting quiz. He ended up puking in the middle of their table!!!!

A lot of the advice in this thread is good. At least check some frats out and see what they have to offer, if you don't think you belong then you should live in the dorms - it's a good way to meet people as well. I lived in the dorms my freshman year and then joined a frat (probably can't guess which one  8-) ) I don't regret a thing. But I know several people that I consider good friends that never even thought about going frat, and they're having a great time too.

Bottom line: We don't think we're better than anyone else, we can get along with anyone.  The people that call frat guys douche bags for not accepting anyone else are not better than the frat guys themselves for judging us. Let that sink in, you GDI bastards.

here's the thing.  The only way you should join a frat is to suckle off the opportunities and tell every one to f off most of the time.  Will follow a bubble arc just like a good stock.  You come in, you act cool and unconcerned, you do some crazy stuff, you tell everyone to f off, you skip a bunch of "mandatory" house activities, you abuse house privileges, you go unseen at your gf's house for days on end, you start smoking in the house, you never clean your room.  Then bad stuff starts happening because everyone views you as an a-hole.  Then you leave, then people do that "hey I wonder what that crazy guy is doing now?"  then you are all like "married, job, elite."  Blows there tractor warming minds.

Find an unhoused fraternity--they tend to be tighter bonded because they have to be to stay together.  Stay in dorms, then apartments.

Advantages: No house rules, parties are not regulated by Greek authoritarianism (big plus), 2 groups of friends.  Always have someone who will let you crash.

Maybe.  Imo strange tail is best acquired by the freshmen girls that are just now experiencing freedom.  Especially ones with daddy issues.  These are in heavy quantity in the co-ed dorms and found more often at house parties than frat parties.  They have less mileage and are therefore less likely to have some funky disease.

make a mad dash for someone respectable your Sr. year.
Huge QFT here.  Lock one up by the time you graduate.  You'll never have options as good as the ones available while in college.  If you decide to wait til you're say, 30, you're going to get stuck with girls that have a lot of baggage.  The ones worth taking will have all been taken by that point.

here's the thing.

Amazing post.

I can confirm that there is one particular frat house on campus that is extremely EMAW and has done several "elite" things in the past few years for the KATZ and KSUFans.com.  :gocho:

Prolly great guys.  Question:

Which KSU frat has the most active ksufans.commers?

My fraternity has 9 members on this board that I can think of and that's not counting several guys that log on as guests pretty regularly.

Can't say for sure since I have been out of school for a bit, but would be willing to bet that dudes at my old house are  :beerchug: and banging chicks instead of hanging out here.  Since we pay for the friends and chicks, we usually spend most of our time taking advantage, if you know what I mean.   :dancin: :kstatriot: :dancin:
