Just want to take credit for this idea (j/k). I did send a lengthy e-mail to Currie a few months ago explaining all of the benefits of playing a "throwback" game on Ahearn. I would be amazing!!!! :woohoo:
And instead of playing an actual game in ahearn they could try and do the madness in manhattan there but the parking garage would have to be finished and they would have to open it up for that.
Both good idea IMO.And instead of playing an actual game in ahearn they could try and do the madness in manhattan there but the parking garage would have to be finished and they would have to open it up for that.
Took the words right out of my mouth!
How about a game against a lesser team as well, like Fort Hays?
From a financial standpoint, if we're only going to get 6,000 for this game and 8,000 for a game like XU -- if playing in Ahearn increases ticket sales by at least 10%, it's a positive. From an AD's perspective it's about getting butts in through the door and charging as much as you can to maximize/optimize income. If playing in Ahearn does this, then I support it. If shelling out/investing in OoD is better, let's do that. And instead of playing an actual game in ahearn they could try and do the madness in manhattan there but the parking garage would have to be finished and they would have to open it up for that.

I would rather we spread the students section out (not to just the ends) and sold seez tix for sections 19-20-21 and charge $500/$750 per seat (similar to the rates for sec 18). Also, I would split the seet zones so that rows 1-10 have to pay more than rows 11-on.
Overheard a convo at the OOD today between frank and I believe a large donor on the phone. To sum up Frank has wanted to play at least one game in Ahearn the past two years but was shut down by weefer and his minions. But since Frank and Mr. Currie are bff's currie is now on board and trying to get this set up.
Frank says he has heard all about all the historic games and homecourt advantage ahearn had and wants to experience the atmoshpere himself!!
Thoughts? :ksu: :ksu:
Dont think regular season game will ever happen...
What about something like Madness in Manhattan, or some other BBall Scrimmage? :dunno:

The point of a thread is to read the whole thing, not to just answer the first question. That helps prevent.... :repost:
Playing a game in Ahearn would be extremely retarded. The place is a POS.yeah it really is and the thought of renovating it is  and anyone that says otherwise has never been inside.

One slogan that has virtually died out is “ksufans copycat.” The term was popular in the ‘50s, ‘60s and early ‘70s, and once adorned the front of the Ahearn Field House press box.
They can paint a sign in the OOD that says ksufans copycat. Hell, I'll do it over the summer. I'll pay for the paint since the AD probably doesn't have the money to buy a few buckets.
Remember men, this is the same place where "ksufans copycat" was posted.QuoteOne slogan that has virtually died out is “ksufans copycat.” The term was popular in the ‘50s, ‘60s and early ‘70s, and once adorned the front of the Ahearn Field House press box.
This legendary place is the birthplace of EMAW. Shuning a game to be played in this facility is very un- :kstatriot:. Turn in your EMAW badges men... for some of you have dishonored our birthright

Seems like it would be pretty expensive to set up bleachers and establish concessions and a ticket facilities (although that pretty much sucks at OOD) for just one game.
Would get a lot of media attention, however.
Someone should find the dusty old EMAW to rehang.
That's a picture of Allen Fieldhouse.
Ahearn didn't have a center hung scoreboard until the Mid 1970's.

No BS on this from the horses mouth, and since I have spent just as much time this summer in Ahearn as OOD I can vouch that it looks amazing in there. and as far as structurally, I had to walk the catwalk and it was just fine.
On the tickets I have no clue, didnt get to stick around to here nething about that.( had to actually go work :yuck: )
Being a younger EMAW'er I never got to experience an Ahearn game, so I would like to see what it is all about.
If you think you are getting any kind of fountain beverage in Ahearn, think again.

They did put in a brand new Indoor Track at Ahearn . . . some powerful players are trying to make something happen in Ahearn, I don't necessarily agree with it myself, but if they can pull it off and make a nice chunk of money . . . so be it I guess. ADJC is curious, but only going to sign off on it if it's absolutely going to produce a significant profit.Seems like that new track has been done forever, and I think they only really did that too give the tracksters another place to practice indoors besides Brandenbury.

Ah,well, they do host several indoor meets every year at Ahearn.

there'd be no room for $3 popcorn in ahearn. we'd be stuck with $2 popcorn (which they'd probably try to charge $3 for in order to pay for their stupid ahearn renovation). it's depressing to think about.
True story: LSOC had a letter to the editor of the Collegian all typed up on his computer that advocated moving the KSU v. uk game to Ahearn. Was very seriously ready to print and send but then he got distracted and went to Todd Road 'riad and forgot all about it, until now.

Provided they didn't just break out the lavenders again.

shut your whore mouth. the lavs are fantastic.
I think we should have an invitational tournament and play the initial game at Nichols, Semifinals at Ahearn, and Championship game at The Gon.

Awesome, awesome idea. Would we go with Biddy or MAYB teams? Extra points for any biddy team that shows up in lavender unis.
Would get a lot of media attention, however.

it's a retarded idea, unless this is true.
if they could take a ooc game, get a dece opponent and get it on espn using the ahearn angle, then it would be worth it.

This sparked an interesting debate over some convo I overhead. Though it would be a massive pain in the ass to set up a one game event in Ahearn, and a nightmare to get another team to agree, I believe it can be done and if FM and ADJC are onboard then I believe it would be worth it.
An to all the ones who say Ahearn is a dump, have you never been to a KSU V-ball game? The crew does a spectacular job in setting up movable bleachers and have a full snack tray. Including fountain drinks. Anyways if I here anymore about this topic I will repost tia.
I heard the chipmunks had basically taken over, TAKEN OVER.

LOL . . . the real irony here is that K-State wants to build a new basketball practice facility, and the Ahearn Gym right off the Fieldhouse has 3 full sized basketball courts.
Boot everybody else out, renovate the thing, and just hand it over to the men's basketball program. Move all the Dance and Leisure crap out to the Rec Center, let Estroball and Volleyball have Bramlage . . . knock yourselves out ladies.
The natatorium . . . Wally Judge's private pool house o' fun.

I'm shocked you would come up with such a bad idea. You want to move into Ahearn instead of get a new practice facility? You want our glorious team to practice in that sauna? Yeah that is going to help recruiting.
It doesn't seem like it would be cost efficient to do that imo.
it was more cost efficent to build a new arena, particularly when they discovered they couldn't build the new arena as originally proposed and abandon a facility that was a basketball classic that was essentially only in need of a few million dollars in renovations??

At 1986 prices . . . $17.5 million dollars could have done one hell of a renovation on Ahearn.
People say, "we'll they could have never put any suites or loge boxes in Ahearn" . . . well, go look what they did at the Old Barn at Minnesota and get back to me.
It's water way under the Bridge now . . . which is why I personally feel like any large scale effort to find a way to put 7,000 people in Ahearn, or less, which is all I personally think the Fire Marshall well let them do for some "throw back" game= is a waste of resources unless it's going to generate some serious revenue. How about they just take the money they're going to spend on something like that, and repaint the court at Bramlage, and to go towards other much more needed things.
