Pickled Jap rings battered and fried...seems like they would obviously be delicious but I can't recall ever having them.... :dunno:
(need opcat input here)

youve never had cheddar poppers?

Of course I have.

cream cheese > cheddar

cream cheese > cheddar
tend to agree but diced up jalapenos poppers are better than whole jalapenos poppers and i haven't found a diced up jalapeno popper w/ cream cheese (yet :fatty: ).

Would be very good. Let's work on this.

This isn't a god damn popper thread. It's sliced Japs battered and deep fried. Don't &@#% this thread up with cheese discussion.
I have had this. Thought it was Kites or Johnny's Tavern but not sure. Remember they were epic. I'll do more research. They also had some sort of dipping sauce that was excellent. A spicy sauce with a hint of smoked chipotle. I'm really leaning towards Johnny's on 119th but it's been quite a while.

not quite the same thing, but fried serranos are real good stuffed with most any mild cheese.
everyone wants to roast their chiles, but frying is a good option.

My serrano plant has a couple flowers now. Do I pinch those off or let them go? Very, very, very low plant iq.

Is there a place in the greater KC area to get fried Jap slices?

I'm looking. So far... no luck. Pretty sure Johnny's on 119th or Kites in Shawnee had 'em but no more. I'm seriously considering throwing some together tonight.

Wouldn't be too hard to do. You could either use a beer batter, the kind that really fluffs up a lot when it cooks...or go with a lighter standard flour batter and it would be pretty good either way.

Here is all I've found. It was from some jank site so tifwiw:
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 eggs
1 cup beer
1/2 quart vegetable oil
2 cups sliced jalapeno peppers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTIONS:
Mix flour, salt, pepper, red chili powder, garlic powder, eggs, and beer together in a bowl.
In a deep fryer, or large pot heat oil to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Dip the sliced jalapenos in the batter. Place battered jalapenos in deep fryer. The jalapenos are fully cooked when they float to the surface of the oil.

Need to put together some dipping sauces. I'm not sure I'd need the red chili powder but it's probably a decent recipe. My old man has one of those sweet basket fryers. I'll post pics when it's done. Probably next weekend for Father's Day.

don't pinch them off. the flowers are the future serranos.
you cut off the basil flowers (and harvest leaves) because you don't want the plant to mature. you use the leaves, so you want the plant to continually be growing fresh, new, tender young leaves. like mowing a lawn.
-
Several restaurants had them when I lived in the Tx Panhandle. Served with ranch... mmm. Haven't found them since moving back to KS.

i love fresh tender leaf
