Title: Golf
Post by: catdude33 on June 08, 2009, 09:50:50 AM
Pretty fun.  But also v. hard/frustrating.  Thoughts?

agreed on all of above.

additional thought-decent exercise if walking. not decent exercise if using golf cart.

played a lot in college, have since quit.  don't like sucking at something that costs so much money and time.

True, but if you're into golf for the exercise, you're in it for the wrong reasons, jmo.

2nd that.  I'm mothballing my clubs and will only play scrambles for Catbacker tourney once a year or play for free if i have an invite.  I'm moving on to disc golf and plan to play my first round ever in a couple weeks over by Westwood.

for a while i really got into golf - mostly because i thought i was supposed to like it.  and i guess i did to some extent- but i really think the appeal  of it all was the game gave me a chance to get outside with friends.  i started mountain biking instead.

i'm not in sales and never will be, i have no use for golf.

I think the main reason I want to get good at golf is that it is a sport you can play, and play well, until you are super old.  There are really no other sports that you can say this about.  It would be cool to be that 76 year old dude that everyone wants on their 4 man scramble team.

At my company golf is like a requirement for promotion.  If you don't golf with the boss, it's going to take twice as long to get promoted.

That's good point

I've played for several years, but never really cared that I sucked.  This summer I wanted to actually improve, but its kinda hard when I have yet to actually go out.  I enjoy it most of the time... plus any sport where you can drink is a sport I can get with.

Worst feeling in golf:  How about when you're on the first tee (everyone waiting is watching) and you hit the ground way before you hit the ball and you roll it like 20 ft. in front of you.  That might be the worst feeling in the world, not just in golf.

Yes!!!!

for several years I played maybe 2-3 times per year.  Then I started my new job and they have a company golf league.  Now I play about 25 rounds a year.  I have improved by quite a bit.

Bowling is frustrating too.  Unbelievable that I hit the "head pin" every single time and only knock 9 pins down.  Not nearly as fun as golf though.

bowling is the greatest game ever to drink/gamble on.  some may say golf, but its kind of slow and not enough action, plus if you're having a bad day, its tough to recover.  bowling, a new game is a fresh start.

Tennis is also fun, cheap, takes far less time to play, and is a much better workout.

Well played, tennis.

Would much rather bowl than golf, and I'm actually not horrible so it makes it a lot more fun, only thing is the only people that bowl are 50+ and smoke like chimneys

Why does golf appeal so much to people who are so bad at it???
People who are absolutely obsessed with golf are often very bad at it, esp. considering the time, money, and effort they invest.

Hmmm.... I get to sit on my ass, drink beer, drive a sweetass electric cart, enjoy the sun in the beautiful flint hills.  What could be better? :dunno:
