Title: frozen pizza
Post by: Rick Daris on June 02, 2009, 10:39:06 AM
what's everybodies fav? i've tried a bunch. bunch. def tried a lot of them. i love them all pretty much but have found that i actually like the cheaper ones more than i like the more expensive ones tastewise. this is my absolute fav. put some jalapenos on it and then go to town.

This has been discussed before but I am happy you chose to bring it up again.  If you like thin crust pizza this is it. In fact... I like this pizza better than anything Papa Johns or Pizza Hut is cranking out.

Jack's cheese for me.

Never had Digorno's. Does it really taste like delivery? Like, if they put a blindfold on me like Pizza Hut does in their commercials, could I taste a difference?

:dunno:

I guess I shouldn't be too tough on everyone.  Ignorance is bliss.  These can be found at Hy-Vee.  The website offers all the information you need to know.  If just one of you try the supreme and don't like it I will refund your purchase.  Oh, they are usually 2 for 10bucks.

anybody add their own stuff? i always add jalapenos before. sometimes red pepper flakes after. sometimes even add more cheese.

i used to sometimes put potato chips on top of frozen pizzas after i took them out of the oven. don't do this anymore. would sometimes even put bbq potato chips on them.

nope. good metabolism or something.

also, pretty sure that fruits don't belong on pizzas. pineapples? why not just cut up a kiwi or throw some orange wedges on the bad boy.

Never tried kiwi but doesn't sound bad.  Love pineapple on pizza.  Sliced almonds also good.

throw in some iceberg lettuce and your pizza is starting to look like the salad bar at sirloin stockade (stay away from the free bread and baked potato-they're suckers bets).

I eat those sometimes too.  I like that the pepperoni one has mini chopped up pepperonis in the sauce as well as the usual round ones on top.

Used to have a roomate who used one.  Very nice. Not so nice for square pizza as you can probably imagine.  Works very well though and fills the house with a nice cooking frozen pizza smell.  Very nice smelling.

I always take the pizza out of the freezer as i set the oven to preheat so it thaws. Then I cook for the minimum time. It usually cooks through.

Also, I use this for cutting: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&Sku=13385971

Very easy. Can either wipe it down with your dish rag and a drop of soap real quick or throw it in the dishwasher. It's just one piece of stainless steel that wraps up into a handle, so no gunk in the wheel and stuff.

yes, make pizza a lot.  spent the better part of the last 3 years working on a decent north east JOCO dough recipe.  sauce is easy if you have access to good canned san marzano tomatoes.

recently began grilling pizza.

I would love to get a homemade pizza recipe.  I dabble in it but have never made my own crusts.  I don't know why I'm so sensitive about this frozen pizza issue but I'm seriously considering crashing the next 'Paker and bringing some of these pizzas.

PS: Anyone who calls pizza "za" loses thousands of cool points IMO. Not that anyone here did I just remember a ku fan doing it once and I wanted to hit him in the face with something hard.

anything more than $5 for a frozen pizza might as well be spent on a carryout / handmade pizza.  :lick:

Tombstone is really the best <$4-5 frozen pizza IMO.

anything more than $5 for a frozen pizza might as well be spent on a carryout / handmade pizza.  :lick:

damnit here guys. jacks is seriously better than this tombstone crap being peddled around here. it even said so in the very first post in this thread. why can't people understand this.  i'm about ready to go bigonewillie and also crash the next pakr w/ nothing but a bunch of jacks pepperoni pizzas.

maybe next pakr whould be a pizzapakr???

Didn't we have pizza at the last Pak'r?  Everyone but you anyway?

had to save room for pcorn. but good point sd...good point. always one step ahead of me.  :-[

what's everybodies fav? i've tried a bunch. bunch. def tried a lot of them. i love them all pretty much but have found that i actually like the cheaper ones more than i like the more expensive ones tastewise. this is my absolute fav. put some jalapenos on it and then go to town.

Speaking of, has anyone ever used one of those frozen pizza turnstile rack thingys?

I think it's just an iron hung over a slow record player

used to have one, worked amazing on Jack's/tombstone pizzas.  not good for smaller ones.

That brand sits right next to the "Tombstone" brand at Walmart.  Tombstone is 100000000000 times better.

Used to be 3.50 for a pretty big pizza, now $4

I'm with you. DiGiorno has good crust and is just very tasty. Definitely my frozen pizza of choice.

When I was young my mom used to get Red Baron a lot, delicious Mexican/taco pizza.

Also, when I feel like snacking,  Totino's Pizza Rolls are fantastic. Takes like 10 minutes in the oven, throw it on a plate and munch while I'm gaming. :lick:

favorite frozen pizza memory from childhood...

it was either tonys or red baron (not sure). anyway they were one of the first frozen pizzas and their pepperonis used to curl up on the sides which would create a little reservoir in the middle for the pepperoni grease to collect. somewhere around fifteen to twenty years ago pepperoni technology improved and now the pepperonis stay flat when cooked. would pay good money for one of the old ones.

You must not have had the same pizza in middle school that I did, then. That crap sucked.

My high school served Papa John's a couple times a week for my freshman and sophomore year. Not frozen, but it was pretty elite. They still had the crap pizza on occasion as well.

These used to come in 2 packs for like a $1 or something.  Anyone remember these?  Anyway they were perfect during the summers when you were a kid and you had to make lunch for yourself.  Way better than when mom bought those garbage hot pockets.

hard palate

also, remember when those red baron pepperonis from fifteen years ago would accidently get cooked upside down and then they wouldn't curl up and get all crispy and you'd be left w/ a slightly undercooked/downward curling pepperoni. man that was terrible when that would happen.  :frown:
