Title: Best/Worst drivethrough food
Post by: TAFNA Dude on March 23, 2009, 08:40:46 PM
Fav:
Zarda BBQ is excellent.
Just recently discovered spangles in lawrence.  Pretty good so far.  Need to try more to make an official judgement.

Worst:
Pancho's.  Tastes great when you're drunk.  (meh when sober.)  The problem is the next day when your ass is glued to the toilet for 10 hours straight.

Honorable mention is BK.  Burger buns are always drenched in grease.   :yuck:

Everything they have is just so incomplete.  Burgers imo are awful, always dry, buns are weird, just not a fan.  Gyro is very good though imo, meat has the good "spice" to it.  Shakes? GMAFB awful. Cyclone / Mudslide things are great though.

Breakfast? out of this world.  Orange freeze thing? WTF. Awful.

Don't know about their food but their commercials are possibly the worst I've ever seen. Lawrence commercials in general are f*cking terrible  :'byecruelworld:

Prices are good I admit, but they changed the 2.99 thing to the sucky burger.  Fries are tasty but overall the menu is too big and they don't have one thing that is just "omfg" awesome, ya know?

Yeah, kreem kup in Manhattan (RIP) didn't have a drive through.

My freshman year,  I single handedly funded the Kreem kup retirement fund.  May songs of angels sing it to thy rest.

The "PAD" in Topeka is amazing.

Bucky's in Lawrence is quite good.

Love the Backyard Burger.  Very, very good.  And not just the burgers....the spicy chicken with cole slaw on it is pleasurable.

Tacos are another matter.....very, very tough to find a true drive through that has good tacos.

In high school I convinced my buddy to propose to his gf at the cashier counter. All the mexi's thought it was legit and clapped

Starting out a thread about good/bad food by labeling Zarda BBQ as excellent diminishes any real value this thread had, but it's about food so i'll continue w/ it-

First, let me start off with the Contenders
In-N-Out burger
5 guys burgers and fries
Sonic (footlong chili cheese coney, homie)

Now, the Pretenders
Wendys
T Bell
Sonic (everything but footlong chili cheese coney)

Finally, the GTFO of my facers
BK - would rather eat dog crap w/ ranch dressing on it

It's great for like, the first two bites.

Then it gets hard to eat because grease is building up in your throat every time you swallow.  If you manage to finish it, you feel like you have a brick in your stomach.

It's one of those things I'll get a weird craving for once every 6 months, buy it, and then regret it 30 seconds in.

A&W root beer on tap is pretty cool though.  (Providing it's one of those LJS/AW hybrids.)

Drive through roast beef (real roast beef, not that fake arby's crap) + corn on the cob + drink for $6.  A real meal for the same price as crap meal.  You just can't beat it.

Guess you don't like the BBQ sauce?

I'm surprised a young pup such as yourself has heard of Taco Tico, nice job.  They're getting increasingly harder to find.  I was down in Winfield for Christmas and for some reason got a hankerin' for some Tico.  My Grandma had to break the news to me that Taco Tico had recently closed.     :'(

Arby's is one of the tops.

Carl's Jr. has those delicious waffle fries.

We also have a place called Good Times that serves tasty greaseburgers.  They're elite though cuz they use romaine lettuce.

Nobody can beat Wendy's for their combination of awesome burgers and being open late.

I'm a little upset the local Taco John's went under.

Has anyone ever been to a drive-thru liquor store?

Yeah, Sonny Ballard built a little empire, which has pretty much disappeared.  I went into Ballards in Aggieville to buy some running shoes a while ago, and I was shocked by how small and crappy that place had become.  I couldn't find anything even halfway decent there.

Sonny also had elite radio commercials during Cat games, since he was unable to pronounce his Ls or Rs.  ("Come down to Bawad's Outwet!")

still probably has more money than you or I will ever have, hard to fault the dude.

Pretty terrible point imo

Just saying that he created GTM from nothing and now pretty much owns the entire town, him having 1 thing that he did not turn to gold isn't a reason to fault the guy.

After eating some chips 'n' salsa, I'd ask for the check and get the hell out of there.

But that's just me.

Drove through Runza for the first time ever the other day.  Surprisingly good.  Didn't order a "runza" though.  Looked gross.

Yes, "runza"s are prolly gross (also never had one).  Fries are ok.  Krinkle cut...which is different.

I love seeing places like that in small towns.

Ever been to Bogey's (Salina)? One order of their chili cheese fries could feed a small nation, and probably subsequently kill them.
Who goes to bogey's and doesn't or the wonder meal? Or goes to salina for that matter?

cannot finish :(

I got so &@#%ing pissed at the McD's there on Bluemont.  First off, I got in the line manned by the McD's lone token retard so it took 3 times as long as the other lines (couldn't line switch, too many peeps), finally got food, and my fries were all the bottom of the bag, like, every single fry was less than an inch long, kind of like getting the bottom of the bag of chips.  Still hungry after not eating the fries (was too afraid to ask for more), the retard line was gone so I went back up to him and asked for a chocolate shake.  Of course the shake machine was on fire or some crap, so no shakes.  &@#% I was pissed.  Never again.

their shake machines never work because they let retards touch them. ice cream machines are always broken too. The last couple of times I ordered an ice cream cone from a 'hattan Mcd's I want the through it back through the drive through window. srsly, people it's not that hard to make a soft serve cone.  :banghead:

Back when I was in high school working at McD's I accidentally put shake mix into the ice cream machine (they were both milky white and came in the same type of plastic bag, ok?).  The cones were a little soft for the next day or so.

Try ordering a Cheeseburger McFlurry and see what kind of response you get.  Made one one time.  burger, ketchup, mustard, pickle, onion and cheese mixed with vanilla ice cream.   :lick:
