Comparing Sutton to Walker?
GMAFB. LOL.

Sutton can be a rebounding and put back beast on the inside. I'd like to see him slash and pull-up alot more as I think he could average 15 a game.
I don't think he's as far off from Walker as you are making it seem.

You are just f*cking with us, aren't you? Just say it, I cannot be clowned any more.

Mostly.

I'd like to see him at the "4", or equivalent. We just pretty much suck at every position.

wouldn't like to see him at the 4, but i would like to see him post up 2s and 3s.

his overall aggression on the offensive end needs to go up. he'll look bad at times then basically just give up trying to do anything offensively. should also be jacking up more 3's. considering the shrump pullen is in it wouldn't really hurt the team's overall offensive efficiency.
-
i wish he would do more of that backwards, olay, move he did at ku. its poetry in motion.

Would him as a Hoskins clone really make us any worse defensively?

doubt it. he prolly did as good a job as anybody defending griffin

:nono:
He is not a Walker type player because he cannot just take things over...He won't turn into a BWalk either. He is probably already a better defender. If he can improve his handles he can become a good Big XII player, assuming he can get 10-15 foot shots. He will never be that explosive at the rim - ala Bill.

His defense is (http://www.christwatch.com/DemonicSymbols/images/infinity.jpg) better than Walkers.
And he is decently explosive at the rim as it is... maybe not quite as much as Walker, but def. better than anyone else on the team. (except maybe Jamar). But he and Jamar are athletic in dif. ways.

He's crazy explosive, just in spurts. He has an insane amount of athleticism, he just doesn't seem to focus on the offensive side much. If he had half of Billy's fire, he'd be a solid 15 pts a night guy for us, his lack of outside shooting ability will keep him from scoring much more. I just keep thinking he and Jam Sam will "get it" one of these days, maybe their relative inexperience is to blame. Jam Sam does keep himself out of the rotation with several different lapses in play, seems like he is still struggling to adjust to the D1 game. Still lots of hope/time for those guys though.
-
he's a lot thinner than walker. or hoskins. it's really hard to be "explosive" inside when you are getting bumped by guys that weigh 50 lbs more than you.
don't think there is anything sutton can do to remedy that. he just is a diff. player than those guys.

There's the creativity that I think is lacking for us right now. We need to try and figure out how to optimize the talents we have instead of shoving them in to roles and trying to make them fit. Pull Kent and Samuels away from the hoop more on offense and post up Sutton, then roll him out to create open driving lanes for Pullen and Clemente with Samuels and Sutton cutting to the rim on the drive. Use Kent to spot up from 10-15 feet (not crazy about that but it gives him something to do). Let the off side Pullen/Clemente spot up for a 3, or use Fred in that role when he is in the game. Keep Merriwether on the bench and only use Colon as a backup and for spot duty to defend a big. There, offense fixed! Oh, and we need to make shots.

personally, i agree. but if martin isn't even willing to go to a 4 out scheme when he has a beasley, i don't think he's going to change up his preferences for guys that can barely score on an empty court.
which, really, is perfectly legit. like ksu_fan (and some others) have said. there are lots of ways to play.
as long as martin brings in talent and the team plays hard, he can play whatever style he wants and he'll do fine.
-
but if martin isn't even willing to go to a 4 out scheme when he has a beasley,
WTF? He didn't at first (remember how much I hated him early?), but he did a ton as the season went on.

did he seriously? i don't recall that at all. of course, i left the country in feb (still saw several game though).

Around the start of conf. play, Frank made Walker a "4" practically full time, and he started making opposing posts look silly on the perimeter.

huh. i remember walker abusing people, but i don't recall ever watching a cat game and thinking the paint wasn't crowded. i trust y'all though.

Yeah, bro, I thought the same thing until mid January. He ran a very HS'ish motion offense until then. After that, Beas and Walker were on the perimeter a lot more.

excellent Xs and Os talk by ksufan'ers recently. Love it. As a LBBIQ type who tries to hang with HBBIQ types it is greatly appreciated.

Good points. And I think this directly helped us get to such a fast start in the Big 12 last year. Great move by Frank.
The problem was we really didn't have an answer once teams started figuring this out and defending it. Primarily teams started seeing the leader of this team was Walker and not Beasley and they got in his head which led to some up and down play down the stretch. We also showed that our guards were inconsistent at best and teams could focus more and more attention on Beasley. Overall Frank did a pretty good job managing that IMO.
This year I think our problems are similar in that our leader (whether he wants to be or not) is Pullen. IMO this team will go as far as he is able to take it. We have been most competitive against high major competition (uk, Iowa, ku) when he has played well, outside of the OU game maybe. He is an emotional guy, like Walker, and that will lead to inconsistency. Its nice if others play well, particularly Clemente, but if Pullen doesn't become a more consistent 15 (or so) PPG scorer then this season is in real trouble. If we can get him scoring around there most of the time, then we have a shot to win some games.

That game, taught me the value of having a bunch of athletic 6-10-ish guys.
