some calories are not fully absorbed because of fiber content. The apples will have a lot more fiber and they will cause some of the calories to not be absorbed into your system.

calories not all that matters really, gotta figure out where the calories come from: protein, fat or carbohydrates. 300 Calories from a nutty bar is worst for you than 300 calories from spinach cause spinach contains complex carbs, and proteins that will make you full longer.

As long as you are burning the same calories you will not gain weight. Now, your teeth may fall out, you may not want to do as much exercise (hence causing weight gain), you will get scurvy, you will feel crapty all the time...but your weight will be the same all things being equal.
