Due to a combination of jealousy of ku, ridiculous expectations, and the fact that Ron Prince isn't Bill Snyder, he will be fired within four years, and his predecessor will be fired three or four years after that with a much worse record than Prince had.
Just a hunch.
-
I kind of agree.
Hopefully our AD isn't that retarded.
-
the dream ... is over.
-
Maybe. But if he misses a bowl game this year, definitely w/in 4 years. Next year's defense will be even worse and no Jordy for the offense to rely on. We will have a more/as difficult schedule next year (I think our conference schedule is entirely more difficult).
It will be interesting because I don't think Wefald will be here longer than 4 more years, and I suspect neither will Weiser.
-
If he goes back to back years without going to a bowl then yeah, start looking at new options. But right now we are a game out of bowl eligibility and we have a coach that took us to a bowl in his first year (something a KSU coach had never done before him).
-
our offense is boring. predictable.
i believe jarsh is not being used at his full potench.
i dream of the day we have a passing spread like mU and Tech.
-
It could happen who knows but I think it's just too early to really know anything. If Prince gets fired I think it will be because of his own doing not because he's not Bill Snyder or because of anything ku does. He'll get a fair chance to succeed or fail and he's going to do things his own way and it will either work or it won't.
It's just hard to tell we're down now because we lost to Iowa State and we shouldn't have. But last year when Mangino was blowing games to Baylor and to Toledo who would have thought he'd do what he's doing this year? Pinkel had moments in his first 4 years or so where it looked like he was about to get canned and look at him now. On the other hand Callahan won the big 12 North in his third year and looked like maybe he was turning a corner and then boom look what happens. You just don't know for sure Prince has been a mixed bag his first couple of years but I think the same can be said for every new coach that has come through this division the last 10 years or so.
-
I think the chance that Prince is fired within 4 years is the same chance we have of going to a BCS bowl game in the next 3.
-

Disagree on Weiser. To posh a set-up. 10 year contract, the best pheasant hunting in the country, and a fan base with zero winning expectations. He'll milk this bitch for years.

Pretty decent?
Josh, as a senior, will win the north. When you win the north, you have a good chance of going to a BCS game.
-
Remember how ku blew every game last year? Maybe we can follow our season up with what they're doing now! :ksu:

So you think that we will definitely win the North in 2 years and have a decent shot at a BCS (obviously if we win or lose the CCG). Yet, you think Prince will be fired within 4 years?
So is RP's future success as a coach 100% dependant on Freeman?

That is true to most head coaches. Their success depends often on their starting quarterback.

Yeah, if he goes to two Texas bowls after a north title, he'd get fired.
And he might get fired before Josh's senior year.

You can't be serious about him being fired before Josh's senior year.
Let's say we hired Leavitt/BV instead of RP. Do you see us significantly better than we are right now. I don't.......at all.

Absolutely not. That's kind of my point.

Good. I'm glad I could prove it for you.
So you are saying that no matter who we hired, they would have been run out in 4-5 years unless they were winning 10-11 games a year because of unrealistic expectations by our fans? I don't think Weiser is that unrealistic. I dunno, maybe I am being :blindfold: but I just don't see that happening.

Those guys wouldn't be fired because they're white and are Snyder disciples.
And I think our fanbase is dumb enough that they will be calling for Prince's head after this season. (many are now.) I guarantee you there's big money that really hates losing to ku. Big money talks.

Last years ku loss was sorta a fluke, 6 TO's and not a single healthy receiver kind of doomed us. This year we lost in the last minutes to a top 5 BCS team (). If the fans don't realize this they are retarded. (Most of them are)
-
Remember how ku blew every game last year? Maybe we can follow our season up with what they're doing now!
Prince gains 250-300 pounds and Josh gets 9" shorter in off season..........we repeat the ku turnaround! :dancin:
-
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems(losing to Iowa State) and nothing is ever as good as it seems(beating Texas). Take it for FWIW. I still think Prince knows what he's doing. I think we need to give him time to learn and build. It might actually take something called time for this to happen.
-
It took Mangino and Pinkel 5-6 years to get to the season they are both having now. And even now, I'm still not convinced these guys are all that and a bag of chips.
I think all this Prince talk in here is crazy talk.

BV = significantly worse (think Mike Stoops).
Leavitt = significantly better.
That's how I see it.

Really? Leavitt's great South Florida team has three straight losses now. Maybe you weren't following closely.

Well, Leavitt is a proven winner. Last year he went 9-4, and played ku closer than we did. This year he beat Auburn (and we didn't).

Prince will get better. He'll change some things. While I think you guys could have hired someone who was initially better a few years ago, what you have now will make a winning team that is good.
His recruiting seems a bit... less than what I'd want, but at ku we take anyone and let the coaches sort it out.
You guys do need a new Defensive Coordinator. Ian Campell should be shot when flashing the Lynch Mob.
-
I'd say it's still at least 50/50 that Prince can amount to something. A few weeks ago if asked the same question I'd have given it 60/40 in favor of him actually doing something noteable at KSU. But given the "going through motions" effort of last week and the pathetic performance yesterday that's two years in a row where the season has gone on and things have gotten worse not better.
I'd also put a lot of the keys to KSU's success on Weiser for too many reasons to mention here. But there's a climate of "will" developing in the Big 12 North, and Timmy Weiser just doesn't have the charisma to get it done.
-
LOL @ changing your stance after one game (most KSU fans). You hate Weiser so much.
-
As a fan, I'm looking to see if Prince is able to make changes and improvements to his own coaching style (ie, play calls, and timing of play calls). I also want to see if he can maintain a coaching staff. I will be concerned if there's another staff "walk-out." A second off season of re-staffing and losing time recruiting should add pressure on Prince to succeed in season three. Only because this can't become an annual event.
If the staff stays more or less intact (I'm willing for one or two changes, if warranted) and can recruit impact players (whatever their star rating), then we should see improvement in play and consistency on the field.

If you are LOL at dax you might want to re-read his post. He said last few weeks not week. And he is right. Not beating OSU and getting embarrassed by ISU is not a sign of improvement. If your Prince barometer hasn't moved slightly towards "maybe we hired the wrong guy" then you are not paying attention. I'm still in the wait and see mode myself but the time for Prince to prove himself will come to an end. Year 3 and Year 4 will be when we will know how Prince is working out. We will have a 3 year+ starter at QB and Prince will have been able to fill the cupboards with his players.

Yeah, a huge change it was too . . .
And actually, I should have given hugh props to Bill Snyder for putting KSU in the position that it's in today thanks to his grouchy, "can't be bothered", hyperconservatism . . . then couple that with a completely non-dynamic leader that we have in Timmy "I don't see any empty seats" Weiser.

It wasn't really directed at Dax. I just quoted him. I'm kind of speaking towards the GPC crowd that was talking Big XII North championship all of last week and is now calling for Prince's head.

Then there's the GPC crowd who pretty much accepts all matter of mediocrity from KSU.

You called Ron Prince "Stan Parrish", FFS. You have 0 credibility on this topic, IMO.

So when is it??
I am baffled by this whole thread. There are powertards that accept mediocrity. Then the people who would call for his head after this year are morons as well.
As of RIGHT NOW, I have concerns as to where Prince is taking this team. We have a 2 year trend of our defense sucking at the end of the year. To me, that means poor coaching. Other teams are figuring out what we do, and we aren't changing anything to combat that. Also, as it stands right now, I don't see it getting any better next year. Now, that could (and I hope) should change by mid February.
I like Prince, and I'm pretty pissed off still, so I may not be the most level headed person right now, but I don't think expecting to win against ISU is unrealistic, nor do I think it's unrealistic to expect our team to play at the level they are capable of playing at. If we played our best and still lost, I think I could handle it. Kinda like the OSU game. But that horse crap performance yesterday....very aggravating.
I hope Prince can get this crap turned around. I tend to be in the things are never as bad/good as they seem camp, so while I have my doubts that we can win any more games this year, we probably will, and we probably will go to a bowl.
Anyway, I hope you are wrong, Rusty. (not being a dick)
-
I dont think it's fair to throw Prince under the bus... yet. If he is still touting this BS to us when he has "his guys" in all of the position - THEN we should talk about canning him like a sardine. BTW, our FB program is still in it's infancy IMO - it was still less than 20 yrs ago when we were the worst in NCAA history.
-
He's going to be fired for being a "bad fit."
-
There's "accepting mediocrity" and there's "demanding an unrealistic level of perfection."
Both viewpoints are ridiculous.
You win some. You lose some. Sometimes you win games you shouldn't, sometimes you lose games you shouldn't. Sometimes you lose a whole lot, then you hire a genius who works a miracle and turns yoiur football program around. Sometimes you win a whole lot, then you go to St. Louis and lose to Texas A&M. No one wins all of the games all of the time...and dropping a game to a rapidly-improving Iowa State team on the road is not going to end Prince's coaching career. No coach in America has won every game that they're "supposed" to win.
If Prince cannot go to bowls and cannot finish above .500 consistently, he should be let go. If he can get us to bowl games every year and never finishes below .500, we should keep him.

We lost another D-Lineman and have several injuries across the board. The team is beat up. I agree we need to get a couple good recruits, but they won't be an impact for another year or two.
The good thing about this staff is that practically every player than can play does and I think that is a good thing to help build experience for the future.
He's in year 2 of a five year contract. I said I would evaluate him after year three. So far, I think he's doing well, but if you consider the totality of his work, the kinds of play that is happening, you'll see there is improvement in the system. The defense is just one component. I think once that one is solved, we'll be in a much better position.
-
Our offense is playing better football than we have any right to expect.
Special teams is sort of hard to figure out.
The defense... isn't.
Of course the D is playing in their third scheme in as many years. We really need to get some continuity (and some players) on this side of the ball.
If we did something stupid like fire Tibs after this year and go with a new scheme, than I'd shorten the leash on Prince in a hurry. But as it is now, I like the odds of Prince doing well.
If we were to lose out, and then miss a bowl game again next year... :curse:
