Title: anyone else about to have a meltdown regarding the defense/future of defense?
Post by: fatty fat fat on October 25, 2007, 12:17:06 PM
seeing guys like houlik being starters as true frosh and being lauded as a "rags to riches" story makes me ill.

and our recruiting on that side of the ball sucks. and our young depth on that side of the ball sucks.

please convince otherwise.

J-Free. You deserve better.

if tigner was any good he'd be playing.

and josh moore? doubt he ever returns, despite his smile on sidelines vs CU.

Christ.

That's a lot of freakin players in 2 years.  52 players in 2 years is a lot.

Tigner plays on special teams.  He's played football like 2 years in high school and still racked up over 100 tackles his senior year.

Carney didn't do crap his freshman year.

Christ Fatty, did you get up on the whiney little bitch side of the bed?

There will certainly be a number of JC players added each year to the defense, Moore was told he'd redshirt (another rags to riches story huh?) and Tigner's pretty raw and will probably benefit from a redshirt.

Feel better?

we have a defense w/7seniors giving up 422.0 ypg, and if they were just a tad better we would coast to the north title.

it upsets me. I want to win the north. It's been 4 years now.  :-[

Not yet, but if we don't have 5 dline inked, along with 3 WR, 3 LB, 3 olinemen and 3 qb's, i might.

7 seniors who came up in the program through a couple of horrible years running their 3rd defense in their 4/5 year careers.  What did you expect, the 85 Bears?

The blank face is because I'm nuetral on them.  For the freshman, they really haven't played, it's hard to say they suck yet (except Kirk, I have no hope for him).

Rohleder is really fast, and big!!!  Guidry is huge!  Abana is huge!  Jackson and Manu are both officially around 260, and Guidry/Abana are around the 280 range!!!  Guidry had some decent offers!!!  Remember X Stewart was projected by some people to be starter?  Finau is the strongest d-lineman on his JUCO team, featuring a plethora of D1 athletes!!!  Crews might be better than Cline, but he might not be too smart.  Course, is there really anything to being a 3-4 DT?  Line might be better for run support, and our linebackers definitely improve!!!  We trade Roland for Olu Hall, Twon Moore, and a more experienced linebacking unit (can you imagine Rohleder next year?)!!!!!  Our secondary will be fine of course, we get Josh Moore back and get rid of the slut Marcus Watts!!!

Get ready for a WILD season!!!

EMAW!!! :ksu: :ksu: :ksu:

 :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

Yeah, not fair to judge those guys already.  Crews needs to get quicker and stronger, Faustin is defn a bust, balcom is too small and a role player, abana was a gamble, has upside but only 1 year left, stewart I think has a lot of upside.  NO idea on Guidrey.

Like I always say, if this board existed back about 10 years ago we'd be like this   :'( :'( on a lot of the guys we recruited.

Imagine reading the KC Star and seeing that KSU had offered a scholarship to a (what appeared to be based on viewing and stats) mediocre linebacker from a sucky Shawnee Mission South team by the name of Travis Ochs.

Let the system mature a little more across the board before passing judgement . . . and no I am not saying the concerns aren't valid either.

Yeah I know, and I remember thinking at the time if KSU football had become a frat house and Travis was just a legacy recruit or something.

For some reason, finding the recruits doesnt scare me with Prince... it is coaching/leading them that I am worried about. I think that we are a little bit of the Chefs team from a little bit ago all offense and throw-up for defense. I think that it will get better - we NEEDED a Josh Freeman as the Flagship player for this team... with Meier, we were screwed. Things will turn around boys, I promise... NOW - what are we going to do about the Coordinators?

The thing that worries most people is that recruiting has sucked for so long, and looking at the past 3 classes, on paper have been average at best.  And the last 2 seasons have been average at best.

prolly because he had season ending surgery.

Big dude + surgery = usually smaller dude for a while

(example: Stevie Ray Cline weighing 270 last spring)

this thing isn't going to get turned around for a while.  It took Mangino and Pinkel several years to become good, not great.  From what we've seen from Prince in recruiting, we should expect a similar timeline.  I actually think he is greatly overachieving right now, which is giving fans a little too much optimism.  I think they have definiately improved over last year, but I don't know what's going to happen to an already bad defense when it's best players graduate.

Please don't compare Prince to those two.

I just watched the replay of OSU on passport and it is undeniable that

1.  our Dline particularly the ends do not require double teams to block.  They pretty much never contained the option and forced the pitch, to the point that at the end of the game there were several times that we had 2 lb's going for the qb and losing the contain when the pitch was made.

2.  As a result of 1 their guards had a field day with our inside linebackers who were nowhere to be found on almost all the inside running plays.

3.  As a result of 1 and 2 we had guys over pursuing and not doing their job because they were trying to make up for others not getting it done.
