Title: Conversation today
Post by: steve dave on September 19, 2007, 12:10:30 PM
Husker guy in NE:  Did you hear?...Zack Bowman walked up to the coaches and gave up his Blackshirt at monday's practice!
Me:  What does that mean?.. he doesn't start or something?
Guy:  No, (puzzled look in his eyes) it means he doesn't wear a blackshirt in practice!
Me:  Oh, does he get a regular jersey?
Guy:  (Stricken with puzzlement)  Wha?!  Yeah!  But not a Blackshirt!
Me:  Oh, well, what's the difference?
Guy:  The Defense Wears Blackshirts!
Me:  Is that better than white shirts?
Guy:  (Spittle coming down his chin)  Hell yes!  The Blackshirts are what it's all about!  This will motivate us to turn it around!
Me:  OK

Andy Christensen is out for the year.

Not sure what color his shirt is though.  Max could tell you, I'm sure he's washed it by now.

I enjoyed after the 4-7 '04 season when we took the names off the back of our jerseys, as if that was the problem.  I guess that could account for the additional win that year.  IIRC, OU did the same after an 8-4 '05 season and bounced back to an 11-3 season last year.

I love correcting nubb fans when they refer to the football team as "us" or "we."  But then I kinda feel bad, because that's all they have to live for in that state.

"Hey everybody, let's live vicariously through our state school's mediocre football team!"

For the record, I feel personally responsible for Alesana Alesana's off sides penalties

I listend to some of the Cornhole pregame, and it was all "us" and "we" and that was from the broadcast guys.

Myopia has overflowed the last 10 days up in Cornhole Country  . . . articles about how Cornhole football builds the character of all Cornholers . . . how out in Southern California they don't really do anything for the country, it's the cornholers who make America work . . . and on, and on, and on.

Hey Steve Dave, do you live in nebraska by chance? because only someone living in the state would get that kind of enthusiasm about the blackshirts, especially after this year.

As for the blackshirt thing, I think it was nice to see the captain say he didn't deserve it. But where was the rest of the defense in handing in their blackshirts? I believe Bowman wasn't the only one on the defense who was torched for 49 points in 3 quarters.

It is a nice gesture by bowman.  What's funny is the Douchey McDoucherson drooling over the sentiment and blindly believing that nubb is still the best team in the universe, bar none.

Some guy:  It's friday night, what are you going to do?
Nubb fan:  I'm going to go home and fondle myself while watching my '94 National Championship video.  Hope it still works, it's gotten a lot of use!

So I wonder if they gave him a pink one instead.  Or, maybe they gave him a skirt to wear on the outside of his leotard.  It's just funny that they all think, hey I got this black shirt I must be a good defensive player.

The new coaching staff does not understand the meaning of tradition. If they did, the defense would not have had blackshirts after the Wake game.

Hah, no, the part with people.  The only towns I've even been outside of a car or convenience store are Omaha and Lincoln.

I enjoyed after the 4-7 '04 season when we took the names off the back of our jerseys, as if that was the problem.  I guess that could account for the additional win that year.  IIRC, OU did the same after an 8-4 '05 season and bounced back to an 11-3 season last year.

So is it logical to assume that a jersey alteration in the name of motivation is instead of an altercation worth one victory celebration?

No, it's illogical to assume a jersey alteration has any affect whatsoever.  It has more to do with the players wearing the jersey and the coach coaching those players.
