first off, what is the team looking at him? is it some semi-pro team somewhere. secondly, I will send you a short little Lance Harris Highlight video if you want. I can give you a download link. It's a pro team from Slovenia that plays in Fiba cup competition. It's called Zlatorog former name was Pivovarna Lasko, they even played euroleague a few years back. They are a good organized club, they give the salaries to the players on time. Last year two American players played for the club. The first one was Jack Ingram from Ilinois, the second one was Terry Williams from Georgia Southern.

That made me laugh. I bet most American players don't even consider the possibility that they might not get paid when they first go overseas.

That made me laugh, too. But if they're not in the NBA or DL, they might not get paid here, either.
They only thing I would add to what has been said is that Lance is a good finisher in transition. He loves to get out on the break and dunk it. He was probably the only guy we had in the past 5 years capable of finishing a fastbreak.
Good luck to Lance!
Lance Harris:
Above average athlete
Very streakyshooter
Average defender
Below average passer
Not the smartest guy on the floor
here ya go man, I just went ahead and put it on YT. I'm just assuming you have YT in Slovenia.Yes, we do have it since from the beggining of the site.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2fPBofnDcA
True, but it's one thing when you drive to play a game and don't get paid. It's another when you fly to Slovenia and don't get paid.If he signs with Zlatorog, he will get paid 100%.
looked these guys up. I would almost guarantee that nobody here has heard of either one. Kansas State is at a similar level to Illinois. Georgia Southern would be considered a lower division school. Jack Ingram barely played for Illinois and he was a center/forward so he doesn't really compare to Lance. Just looking at statistics, Lance would appear to be somewhat similar to Terry Williams but he was playing against much better competition. I would guess that Lance is probably better than the Americans you had last year.We haven't had much guards who are from America. Most American players here are centers, the most "known" center from America in Zlatrog was Jeffrey McMillan from USC. I really hope that Lance signs with my favourite club and has a fantastic season and I hope he makes even a bigger impact than Terry Williams.
It has to be really difficult for teams in Europe to figure out which American players will thrive in a completely different culture and which will absolutely hate it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Lance did really well over there.
We're all Zlatorog fans. Already. If he signs I'll keep you posted about the stats and the game results.

is there a zlatorog website? a schedule anywhere? if i have extra money in the spring i might try to catch a game. The http://www.kosarkarskiklub-lasko.si/index_slo.asp (http://"Zaltorog") site is only in Slovene. But for further information you can contact the club at:[email protected]
So whats Euroleague? Is that like the champions league in soccer where the top few teams in every country play in their own super league?Sort off. There are 3 european basketball competitions if I compare them to football(soccer) leagues:
cool. good for harris.try this www.kosarkarskiklub-lasko.si/ (http://www.kosarkarskiklub-lasko.si/)
thanks for the schedule btw. i couldn't get the website to load though.

Thanks! In Europe it doesen't matter who starts the game, but who is on the field when the game is over. But I hope he starts at the SG spot.
Will he start playing immediately?
Lance should read Paul Shirleys book, it should give him some insight on what he is in for.So what does Paul Shirley say? I'll be de judge if it's true or not.

steve dave, I'm right there with you.
I'm going out on a long limb and predicting that Lance is gonna be the best erratic afro-american in Slovene for the last 3 years. On the field or off.

Zlatorog-Sloboda Dita 67:55 (19:17, 10:17, 13:9, 25:12)Zlatorog won it's first game with Harris. He didn't play much(about 5 min) and scored on a alley-op pass from Strnad, people immediatly liked him, because they aren't used to see someone flying so high. I'll just say that Lance arrived on Thursday morning and it was clearly visible that he is still tired because of the 12 hours diffrence in time.

Expect more badger shots via his talent at getting to the rim glory-hole. Many Afro play ball with field similar to whale toilet.

Really, you don't have anybody in the league that can dunk better than Lance Harris? We had a dunk competition a year ago, and I'm not sure he successfully completed a dunk.Last year the winning dunk looked like this:
Is he still streaky as hell?In the first few games he used to be, but now he gets more to the rim.

How is traveling a mistake he's making because he isn't used to the euro-league? Isn't that just an all around not thinking mistake?Look in the NBA and maybe in the NCAA, referee sometimes oversees traveling, because someone makes a great dunk. If you don't believe me watch the world championship/Olympic games and you'll see that American players get a lot of traveling calls.

Good point. Plus, with the Euro/Dollar exchange rate (or whatever currency he's getting paid in) he is probably raking it in. A Big Mac costs, like, $87 american dollars is Spainloshivakia.

Newem,
Is it feasible for European teams to use all of their American roster spots on players from one school, and create a loose partnership of sorts? I'd follow a foreign team that had Harris, Massey, et al. all playing together, especially if you played other foreign teams with the same complement of ex-players from our rival schools (texas, usc, etc.). Then it would be exceptionally cool for that Euro team to come play the current KSU in a preseason exhibition.
What does Octagon of Doom translate to in your native tongue?
What's the average attendance for teams in this league? Do they all average about the same, or are there some that are a lot more popular?Mostly around 500 per game. But you must know, that the arenas aren't big, Zlatorog's arena maximum capacity is 3000 people, the biggest arena has a capacity of 6000 and the lowest capacity is 200.
do you play games outside slovenia?Yes we do, but this year we already finished playing games in abroad.
Newem,Only theoretically. But in real life I would say no. In most of European leagues you are allowed to register only 3 non-European players(That's why Massey is applying for a Slovakian passport), the other reason is that the fans like to see a native and a successful team on the field. But that's not always possible so they bring foreigners to play as leaders and not to sit on the bench.

Is it normal for players to just leaving the team during the holiday's and miss games? Seems kind of strange not the way things are normally done here.99% of European clubs send their foreign players home, mostly because their is a clause in the contract that says that the player can visit his country once per year, so most of the European clubs send their foreign players home for Christmas because normally there are no games.
When he responds you get to make the signs in Latvian or whatever language. I'm not even going to try and find the stencils. The only strange signs that my language has are š,č,ž,ć

I knew of the rule limiting non-Euros. I'm talking about Euro teams dedicating their 3 American spots to guys from one school. So 9 Euros or natives teamed with 3 alumni from the same school.

one way to really encourage this to happen would be if school based internet subscription services (like passport, or all the pay yahoo broadcasts) were to pay the euro teams for broadcast rights and include those games in the package.

Here is his profile at the official page of Zlatorog:http://www.kosarkarskiklub-lasko.si/igralec.php?id=28
My opinion: I think Lance is still getting used to European basketball making little mistakes like traveling but the last few games he has played really great and improved his game. I hope, that he wins the dunk competition in late December because he really is an amazing athlete. I think the only competition to him at the moment is Ronell Taylor, who plays for olimpija, which plays in the euroleague. Oh, I almost forgot Zlatorog is 6-1 at the moment.
That's all for now. If anybody has some questions, post them up and I'll answer them.
The only strange signs that my language has are š,č,ž,ć
I knew of the rule limiting non-Euros. I'm talking about Euro teams dedicating their 3 American spots to guys from one school. So 9 Euros or natives teamed with 3 alumni from the same school. That would work, but at the moment I don't think that Messey and Harris are on the same basketball level, but it could work.
What is the geographic shape of Zlatorog's arena? I wouldn't be opposed to a Hexagon of Doom if that's more applicable.I only found 2 small pictures of the arena , but it's in the shape of a rectangle.
Regarding 'gons of doom, do you have any idea what the frack we're talking about?Got my own opinion, but I would still like to hear an explanation. And I would like to know what's up with David Hoskins? Is he injured or suspended or something? I saw some movie clips of Lance and most of the alley-ops were thrown by Hoskins.
Ohhhh, I HATE olimpija. They are rivals! You can say that again.
As noted above this would not work because of the Euro>Dollar conversion rate. If, say, a subscription cost 10 Euros over there it would equal roughley $9,500 a month here. Great idea otherwise.Well, you can watch the games of Aris(the club where Messey plays) on the internet, if anyone is interested, ask me where. For Lance you can only watch live statistic. And if you want to watch other KSU graduates let me now their name and I'll look them up and see if anything is possible.
Is 'ž' the one that's virtually impossible for us Americans to pronounce?Well you pronounce č and ć as ch and s as sh.
I believe the unpronounceable sound you are referring to is Czech. It sounds something like a cross between a Z and the second G in garage. When I tried to pronounce it in front of Czech people they laughed and laughed.Something like that.
Massey is great so it's no surprise he would have a great game, hope he gets to your team.
So, say his salary is 75,000 Euros a year, he would be making about $95,000,000 in US dollars per year. Talk about BANK!

do teams negotiate american-born players' salaries in dollars or euros (or other for non-eurozone leagues)?

Another question: How did you get interested in hoops? Did you play over there? Do most of your school systems have basketball?
Did you know you can vacation in the US for pennies a day ;)?And then you wake up and realize that you had a nightmare, eh? :D I've been thinking to take a summer job in the USA this summer, so I would like to know in which city should I search for summer jobs? Any recommendations?
do american-born players and european natives usually have equivalent salaries? It mostly depends from player to player.
how much does harris make?I have no idea, any number that I write is just a pure guess. In Europe most clubs hide their players salaries, but I don't know why.
do teams negotiate american-born players' salaries in dollars or euros (or other for non-eurozone leagues)? At the moment the most European clubs pay the American players in dollars, because of the low value of dollar against euro.
Isn't there a story about some hoopster in the US thniking he just signed some monster contract (obviously before the Euro pwnt the $) and he got over there and was making, like, $8k a year? May have been baseball. May have halucinated it also.It certainly wasn't baseball, because baseball and american football just aren't popular in Europe, as handball and football(soccer) isn't popular in America.

How can I watch Massey's games online?I'll post a link if some free-TV is will show it.
I would suggest East St. Louis, IL. It has great culture, sites, hearty job market, just a real American experience all around. Plus, it's somewhat of a melting pot so you would get a real feel for the rest of the country. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll search if anybody has got an opening for a summer job as a victim of homicide.

Today Zlatorog is playing against Rogla, which has a long injury list(4 starters), so I expect some flying dunks from Harris and some minutes for the youth players. I'll post some pics of the game.

I freakin' love the Harris bird wings on the shoulder/inside of arm area. :skillz:A better pic.
newm, everyone loves this. You're just pretty much the only source for zlatarong info here...no one will comment unless you provide new info.
Keep it up...we love it.

If you think that are hooligans, than you clearly never been to Serbia and watched a derby bet between Partizan and Crvena Zvezda(Red Star), and fights between the fans of Partizan - Grobari(grave diggers) and Zvezda - Delije(heroes), just some taste of what I'm talking about:
Aris fans:
Basketball - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFMoEcJIU5E&feature=related
Half Basketball, Half Soccer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIvPD78ZhmQ&feature=related
Soccer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fvNeUDJPg8&watch_response
I love soccer, mainly because of the dedication, and general craziness of their fans, so this is a great club to follow for me.

But that are hooligans:it's not about the sport, it's about the fight after. The second video was recorded on 5th of December 2006 between Zvezda and PAOK(greek team), Delije attacked the fans of Partizan, who broke in the arena and started "looking for trouble". The interesting thing is, that Partizan and Zvezda share the same basketball arena, called the Pionir, which translated means pioneer. Sad, that those things even happen.
In other news, Zlatorog beat his local rival Šentjur with ease by 24 points. Lance is great form since the Christmas and new year break, this time he scored 27 points, and had 1 rebound, on a 9/9 for two, and 2/4 for three shooting.

because their food is generally better.

newem, what are your thoughts on Michael Beasley. TIASeriously? I think he's a good player, but I haven't seen much of him, mostly in the WC U-19. I also noticed, that in the final he was "owned" by Milan Mačvan. :D

have you been to europe? the consideration comes from the self-hatred that is the basis for most of what you hear in our media

It's silly to compare the whole Europe with Serbia.
Zlatorog announced today, that they signed Chester "Chet" Mason, who played for the cavaliers this season. He also played for Ohio Redhawks in the NCAA. My question is: Has anybody got a report on him, in what categories is he good? In which bad? I've seen only some short clips of him and you are the ones who watch the NCAA. Thanks in advance for the answers.newem, what are your thoughts on Michael Beasley. TIASeriously? I think he's a good player, but I haven't seen much of him, mostly in the WC U-19. Did happen. This things these days only happen in the Balkan. I haven't writen here in a long time. Shame on me. But I have news, I will post some links to the clips and games of Lance Harris, BTW he and Chet Mason are the most atheltic duo on the guard positions in the whole league, but let the clips tell for themselfs:
Top 3 actions from the last round:

The whole game beetwen Zlatorog and Mercator:

And oh, I almost forgot. The first part of the league is over(Teams are now divided in 2 groups, 1 group is playing for the playoffs and the oher is playing against relegation) Zlatorog is playing for the playoff and I think this is the year that we could do something big, like making the finals for example. :D
P.S. I'm a fan of NCAA to, but because of the time zones I can hardly watch the games. So tell me is there any cance taht KSU makes the final 4 or even the finals?

What no comments?
I have to dissagre with B). In most cases average American college players are better because of Athlethism and because they get a playing time of 30+ minutes. Also American players are brought to a club to be leaders and one of the first scoring options on the court and finnaly many American players will play for less money than a native from some country(for example Germany) that is on the same level. As I mentioned, Germanys first league BBL is a perfect example, because the clubs are having problems finding good native players that are on the same level and would accept the same salary as a American player. BBL even changed the rule a couple years back, now the rule allows more non-EU players to be registered by a club. In ohter leagues(example Greece) they "solve" this problem by getting EU passports for American players(like Aris who has Massey(Slovakian passport), Castle(Bosnian pasprot) and Washington(Macedonian passport) and they also have Terry and Wright on their roster), but fans are protesting against that. But FIBA still didn't do nothing to "solve" this problem. What no comments?
I'll comment...
A) Massey is still pretty good.
B) Average American college players are still way better than most European players.
C) There is really no reason to play a "porno soundtrack" in the background of hoop highlights.

Hellow my friends! It's 10pm here in Slovenia and I'm slowly trying to go to sleep.
It's been a long time since I last wrote, please forgive me for that.
I think this is going to be one of my last posts on this forum. Why? Because my goal was reachead I got to know Lance before he even got here and I want to thank you for that. It's the end of the season here in Slovenia and we lost the semi-finals versus the only Euroleague team in Slovenia - Olimpija. Lance was absolutly fantastic through the hole season I will never forget the Alley-oops from Chester Mason and I will never forget the fast break dunks, trully fantastic.
If anyone is intrested, here is a interview with Lance: http://slobasket.tv/browser/?showid=95fd412d3bae587d012ded160ad5fcca (http://slobasket.tv/browser/?showid=95fd412d3bae587d012ded160ad5fcca)(starts at about 18 minutes)

Btw, for those, who haven't heard it yet. Massey tansfered from Aris to Real Madrid for a transfer fee of 1 million dollars. I heard some rumors, that Lance will join Aris in the middle of the season, but now they seem to have dissapered(notice that Lance is on a 1+1 contract with Zlatorog), and I don't have any idea where Lance will be playing next year, the chance, that he will be playing for Zlatorog are sadly under 1% I would really want to see him next year, but his price is so high at the moment, that I don't know if Zlatorog can afford him. He avreged 17.1 points, 1.5 assists, 5.7 rebounds and had some double-doubles.
So if anyone has to ask me something he should do it, because if Lance leaves, there is no point for me to write on this forum.

Wonder if his younger bros are any good.
What do you suspect Lance will get paid next year? Was Massey's fee in Euros or American Dollars? You guys should sign Blake Young next so you can keep posting. Do women shave their pits there or not?1. Around 150-200.000€

ca. 225-320k. harris is doing well.

Played against the youngest one, Lyle, last year in Columbia. Torched my team. He's much better than Lance, probably the best of the Harris kids.

How old?
Friends, I need help. I heard a rumor, that Zlatorog is intrested in another player from Kansas State, so could you please post the roster of last year with height and please also type down who left or graduated from last's year roster.
Thanks in advance.
Hoskins was pretty salty for an undersized forward but sat out last season with a knee injury. Young was pretty salty as a fake punch thrower. Was supposed to be a scorer but never really developed at the D-1 level. Similar to Harris in that regard I guess.
I think Blake's fake punch was a top 10 EMAW moment for me.

From today's Manhattan Mercury...
"Martin proudly says that each senior from last year's team graduated and has moved on with their lives. Blake Young is playing professional basketball in Russia; Clent Stewart is working for Conoco Phillips in Bartlesville, Okla., will be married next summer, and has not ruled out trying to play professionally in 2009-10; and, David Hoskins is on the mend from his multiple knee surgeries in Detroit, Mich. He's hired an agent and hopes to play professionally.

^Also confirmed that Clent is professional in something other than sports.

I need your help again!
