Heard it was average and they think they'll win the big12 with offense.  :bs:

This is a worthy topic of discussion.

All the talk about Missouri's offense but nobody seems to be addressing their defense.  Eerily similar to Iowa State exactly a year ago, when they returned virtually their entire offense from the previous year.  Remember the talk about their great, veteran offensive line, having their star running back return, the multiple wide receiver options available to a great, veteran quarterback.

Not only did the offense fizzle unexpectedly, they never did talk about their defense.

Incidentally, Missouri got beat by Iowa State last year because they couldn't stop the ISU running game.  Nor did they stop Kansas or Oregon State.  They weren't good and they lost six starters from a bad defense.

How many times have we seen teams with good offenses but no defense succeed?  Can't score if you don't have the ball.  Good as Mizzou's offense might be, they may not get many chances if they can't stop other teams.

Nice.  ;)   Putting up stats like that again will be hard for them. I think a poor KSU D helped them stroke their ego.  Wont happen again. 8)

I think MU's defense was ranked just ahead of NU's in conference play last year and both teams lost roughly the same number of starters off last year's unit.  Yet most NU fans have a rosey outlook for this year's defense.  I think MU's defense will be better then what they had last year but still no better then avreage.  I don't think it's enough for them to be a really top team but I do think they can win the North with an outstanding offense and an average defense.  At least they have the one outstanding unit not sure there is another truely outstanding unit in the division.

Missouri was horrid in rush defense, 11th in the Big XII during conference play, but very good in pass defense at third in the conference.

In total defense they ranked after KSU and before NU at 7th.

See Hatter's thread on the importance of pass defense.
