Title: Purify suspended for one game........

I guess we were all wrong in our guesses. He'll be back for the second game of the season, Wake Forest at home. No two game suspension where he would be back just in time for the USC game, which we were all joking about in the first place.

NU is in big trouble at home vs. Nevada in the first game without Purify.

Un-f-ing-real.

Pathetic. As a fellow member of the big 12, it's embarrassing to know that thug will play big 12 football.

That is total crap but I have a feeling that it really wouldn't have made that much difference.  There must be more to the story about the bar fight.  I have a feeling it wasn't that one sided.

The fact that the dude got a DUI less than 2 weeks after the bar fight pretty much validated that story.

Not only was Solich having more success than Callahan when head coach at NU, but he punished & taught life lessons to players when it was called on. This was a perfect time for Cally to show the rest of the Big XII how he runs his program without the obvious atleast five losses per season. Looks like he failed miserably.  :-X.

You stay classy NU.

I'm just waiting on fellow huskers to come over here and try to explain & make sense of the decision Callahan just made with the Purify situation. Totally beyond LOL........

I am not sure what fair punishment would be for 2 misdemeanors.  I think the DUI carried much more weight but it would be interesting to compare other players around the country who had similar charges.  I have a feeling Purify might be a few pounds lighter after Callahan gets a hold of him.

Three words. Behind closed doors. Know one in the public will ever know what will happen with Purify at practice/workouts, therefore does it really even matter? This was an opportune time for callahan to show the CFB world and rest of the big XII how he runs his program and his players(thugs). Failed miserably.

With this type of punishment, or lack of, look for Purify to join here  :jail: in the next couple months/years. I mean really Callahan, teach a lesson to these kids or there just going to be coming back for more.

In other news, Leon Patton is still suspended for not making the big 12 honor roll.

Damn, the differences between Prince and Callahan.

I'm proud to call myself a Kansas State football fan.

No kidding fatty.

Try to name one player on Prince's watch that disobeyed the law or skipped a couple classes that didn't get just blasted with being kicked off of the team or being suspended for several games.

Classic example of newly hired Prince coming to Manhattan knowing that setting an example for how he runs his program is a biggie. Within the first couple of months after T-Gun's court punishments are filed out for basically doing nothing but disagreeing with a parking attendent. (*Remember Thomas has already been suspended for a couple games the previous year by Snyder.) No punishment handed out by the court btw. Prince suspends senior T-Clay for the home opener in order to put down his fist and show his players that they dont even have a leash on. Ever since then there hasn't been any bullcrap by any wildcat football player.

Hmm....wonder why????

"There must be more to the story about the bar fight.  I have a feeling it wasn't that one sided."

that was a non issue.  The DA didn't even have enough with the bar fight to take it to trial, which is why he got diversion.  The DUI gave the da a little more leverage with what they had to deal with.

Wow.  That really sends a message to the guys inside of the program doesn't it.  Get in a big bar fight, get told by your coach to straighten out, then proceed to get a DUI a couple weeks later and all you miss is 1 game against a mid-major.  It sounds like the new Nebraskan way.  They go from running a respectable program with Osborne and Solich to letting a bunch of criminals run around to do anything they want only to get a slap on the wrist in the Slashahan era.  If Purify was a mid-level player, there is no way he only gets 1 game for all of that.  It tells me Callahan is feeling the pressure to win big this season.  Win at all costs is certainly in session at NU. LOL.

And somehow I don't think it is a coincidence that this news broke after 5pm on a Friday.  Nicely played Callahan.

suspend him 3 games, make him miss the USC game, would've been a decent thing, not to harsh but not to light either, but honestly as a k-state fan, im not to worried about it

solich was not good with the discipline.  he had no policy and some times he would even let the team vote on what should happen toi a player.  Callahan has kickedd off several starters already and atleast one was more crucial to our success than purify

Wrong, the point is that it's BS that Callatard rolled and sees Puridrunk as his only chance at a slightly better than 5 loss season.

No, it has nothing to do KSU.  Purify would have played against KSU even if he was suspended for 8 games.  It's just that 1 game doesn't send a message to him, to any of the other players on the team, or any players that will go to Nebraska in the future.  That's what it is about.  It wouldn't have killed NU to suspend him 3-4 games.  NU won't beat USC with or without him.  He's not THAT good.  Callahan is desperate for wins and needs every good player he has, bottom line.  I already thought the guy is a scumbag and this only confirms it.

It seems strange to me that you guys hold Callahan to a higher standard then Snyder. Many many we heard from the K-State camp that it will be handled internally.

I just got back from eating with one of the Vice Chancellors in Lincoln.  He is mortified.  There were about 25-30 staff and faculty members in attendance and each thought the radio station was joking when the news broke.  We ended up having about a 30-minute discussion about Lawrence Phillips and the similarity between the situations.  I have to keep my bias to a minimum at these functions but did offer that it was an embarrassment and everyone in attendance agreed whole-heartedly.  Truly a disgrace to the Big 12.  To give the Corn credit, the sports call in shows here did light up with almost all callers being angry and embarresed about the 1 game suspension.  There were your normal Corn homers that thought this was "fair" but about 80-90% of calls were stongly negative towards the actions of Classlesshan.  This has taken the University of Nebraska down to a level never seen from a Big 12 team.  I just hope they can claw their way out of the hole they just dug themselves.

i might be taking this to lightly but idk about never seen before, i mean we sunk pretty low after the roberson thing (yes ik he was found inocent but still it should never had happend) ro shoulda sat atleast a quarter, oh well (FWIW i do think this is much more extreme than the roberson case but never the less i see similarities)

That post shows a complete lack of history or perspective. The Lawrence Phillips ordeal was worse (that occurred right as the conference was getting started)...as was the situation with Roberson. How about Oklahoma being put on probation? How about Colorado and the exposure of their recruiting tactics, with strippers, prostitutes, etc. for the high school kids they wanted to recruit. The list goes on.

If you argue that Purify got off too lightly, you have a decent argument. But acting like this is the worst and most embarrassing thing that's even happened to a Big 12 team in the history of the conference just makes you sound like an imbecile.

Roberson got the remainder of his schollie taken from him.  And IMO all he did wrong was stay out past curfew.  Snyder didn't want to have him associated with the university let alone the program.  He also sent out a letter appologizing for Ell's actions.  Guess what, RP would have done the same or been harsher.  Winning a couple more games isn't worth a huge black eye on the program.

true, but ro had no buisness starting that game, IMO i think it hurt us durring the 04 season and took out 95% of snyder, the NU game of 05 took the last 5%

Actually, Purify pled to 4 charges so actually 4>0.  He was charged with 6 counts and the plea deal allowed two counts to be dropped.  So in total Charges 6>0 and Convictions 4>0 fwiw

I should rephrase my assertion that this by itself brought NU to a new low in the Big 12.  My meaning, of course, was that the cumulative of this and prior incidents (LP) has brought the University to a new low within the Big 12 conference.  The Academics within the University are embarrassed and stunned that the program has sunken to this level.  They usually try to push the University's role as an academic institution and see athletics as a side note but none are ignorant enough not to realize that the face of the University most see nationwide is the athletic dept.

I know I have been bashing Ron for making an example of Patton regarding grades but I have never been prouder to have a strict disciplinarian as a coach.  Ron Prince...Patriot...Hero

"We have a family approach to this, and anything that takes place in regards to discipline is kept in the family,'' Snyder said.

I'm not saying that I have any problems with the way Snyder handled these type of things. Same goes for Osborne and Callahan. These coaches know the players better then any of us and I believe that most are doing what they think is best. But for K-State fans to call out Callahan on this after all the crap that has happened with the K-State players in the last few years is a complete joke.

Most if not all of the guys Coach Slash kicked off the team at NU, were guys he didn't recruit.   I told Cornhole fans that as soon as one of Slash's recruits had major problems they would be treated completely differently.

A lot of those guys quit the team rather then being kicked off. Incognito was out of control and openly questioning the authority of the staff and he beat the crap out of a teamate for no reason.  He was roided up beyond control and that is why Oregon wouldn't let him play after initially accepting him as a transfer.  Cally had little choice but to kick him off it was a totally different situation he wasn't even arressted for anything at the time he got booted.

I guess the message Cally is sending is if you do what you're told within the program and respect the coaches it doesn't matter what you do off the field.  There is no way to spin this for an NU fan one game is a joke for two seperate arrests in such a short time.  At the very least he should have gotten two games one for each offense and even that would have been a joke.  If I was a coach I'd do one game for any misdomeanor offense that involves violence or endangering others, 3 for the second such offense and they'd be gone if there was a third.

all of those people were kicked off the team.  A few of them were allowed, like pilkington to leave on their own terms without getting their name in the paper for getting kicked off.  I also forget Patrick, he was our starting left tackle last year.  that's another one

and yes, richie was a nightmare but at many schools like oU for example that would have been overlooked.  Solich never kicked him off the team or disciplined him in any way.  Roids were not the problem with richie as he didn't need them.  Some people just aren't wired right.
