yeah, I think there is one more later on in the summer with Modest Mouse too.

for clarification:

there are 3 upcoming concerts at city market.

Incubus
Modest Mouse
Buzz under the stars

I saw O.A.R. at city market last year.  loved it.  Great natural slope toward the stage and the beer is relatively cheap for a concert.

As ECN said, parking is all over, there is a parkinglot west of city market (near that pizza place, name is slipping right now) but I"m sure it will be full in 30 seconds.  You will just have to drive around in the alleys till you find something.

I plan on going to incubus and (MM w/ kilgore)

Where do they set up the stage? (I've never been to a concert there)  Can you park at the park and ride at 3rd and Grand?  I'd guess that would fill up pretty quickly, too, but nothing like Minsky's.  Personally, I'd take the bus if I was going.

I like Harry's Country Club for neighborhood drinking.  Used to love the Cup and Saucer.  :crybaby:

stage is set up in the NE corner of the marketplace area (it's the low point of the whole area) directy behind the arabian steamboat thing.

Minsky's was the pizza joint I was talking about earlier.

I have no idea about Public transportation in that area.

Visit many of the same attractions previously visited by
the Kansas City Trolley (plus some additional ones) easily
on the MAX. Starting at Country Cub Plaza or the River
Market a full day of fun can be designed for any group’s
interest. As an example try starting at the River Market
and visit the Steamboat Arabia Museum. Before getting
on the MAX try the new Italian Gelato (ice cream) shop
in the Market. Stop at the Crossroads for art galleries
and Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolates. Union Sta-
tion, Crown Center and Liberty Memorial stops provide
lots of activities. The Science Center and traveling exhibi-
tions are at Union Station. The Hallmark Visitors Center
(closed Sunday and Monday) at Crown Center does a
great tour of Hallmark and Kaleidoscope provides free
creative art sessions for children (individual and family
sessions are available. Call 816-274-8301). Another
stop for art lovers is Main at 45th street. The Kemper Mu-
seum of Contemporary Art, the Kansas City Art Institute
and the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art are all east of this
station. The Plaza has great shopping and food and Mill
Creek Park if you want to stretch your legs on its trail. Of
course there are great places to eat all along this route.
Ask for a Day Pass before putting $3 in the fare box
and you can get on and off the buses all you want that
day. The MAX runs about every 15 minutes during the
week and on Saturdays. Sundays they run about every
30 minutes.
Have a great day exploring the downtown corridor.

Its usually not hard to find parking for River Market concerts, they're generally easy to get into and hard to get out of.
The last concert I went to there I took a cab from The Cashew to River Market, then after the concert walked up Grand to 9th St and grabbed a cab back south to 20th Street.

I was thinking about going to see Incubus but then I found out that Guru from Gang Starr is playing with Jazzmatazz at a bar in Westport.
Jazzmatazz > Incubus.

Title: Re: Incubus?

Jazzmatazz > Incubus.

I've listened to some of their stuff but it's not really my thing. To each his own I guess.  Thanks for the cab info though - i might try that.

First off. Don't EVER compare LP to 311! EVER.
Secondly, would sex pistols fit Kent very well, idk, I'm just used to using hip hop or immediate music in my vids, but I want to use a rock song.

 :peek:
Wine snobbery can not begin by discussing red vs white, merlot vs cabernet sauvignon or chilled vs room temperature, those are wannabe snobbery discussions.

Now, if you would like to discuss certain vintages of the Merlot grape, whether you prefer the traditional Bordeaux blend or 100% varietal, or even which winery produces the best Merlot, those are true snob discussions.

I'm happy with a Merlot, though.  Bit sweeter than a "cab sav".

Saul you prolly don't want to try to deal with Minksy's when there's a rivermarket concert going on, although I assume you'd be in/out of there before the concert got over.   BUT! You might like to try JP Wine Bar @ 16th and Walnut.  They just opened a full kitchen and it's just a few blocks south of where you will be staying.

Admittedly I don't hit Westport very often.
fwiw, i don't either. it's a vile area for vile people.  although the restaurant called Pot Pie is good and it's in westport  :blank:

westport just gets too much drama on the weekends.  have a nice day cafe? seriously?  i went to westport when i was 20.

Last time I was in GK was about 18 months ago...and I thought it was in or near Westport.
Pot Pie?
it's in westport like Ford Hall is Aggieville (i used Ford Hall as an example for purposes of letting you know I know where Ford Hall is (meow))

Pot Pie is across Westport road from Blockbuster @ SW Trafficway

I thought about going to "Minsky's" but you guys said the thing about the parking and that scared me.

You're like two blocks away - it's a good sports bar by the way.
I have extreme anxiety issues.  I'd probably get within a half of block, see a few cars at the place and then turn around and go back to the Savoy and order room service because "Minky's was too busy".

So THAT is why you like KSU basketball...nobody around there for the last 10 years to watch a game.

Dining.  not going out.  sushi, jerusalem, incredibly cheap pizza at Joes (pizza poppers or whatever are an excellent deal for $7), McCoy's, I guess that's about it.  If I go out there, I only like McCoy's.  The patio is an awesome place to watch the drama unfold.  One of my favorite KC drinking places.

And Pancho's is better than Popeyes.

Good summary:

Quote
Damn!!

Pancho's on Main has been around for a while, and yet it was only today that I managed to haul my honky ass into this glorious 24-hour spot of fine food heaven.

People, trust me on this. I had a fiesta taco (what the hell is a fiesta taco?) that balanced grease, spice and meat in a crispy shell of sour-cream-soaked bliss. I had it, and whatever you had for lunch today sucked in comparison.

And then I had this burrito they call "texacano", or something like that. It's chicken and sour cream and potatoes (as an Irishman, I REALLY appreciate it when someone else features potatoes in their best food!) in a burrito, and you get to add some serious salsas at your will. Their hot avocado salsa will MESS YOU UP!!! and make you beg for a rematch. Beg. And even though you know you're going to get messed up again, you hope you'll talk your way through the eight count. Because you want to wind up on your ass again, don't you??

When you're hungry for a quick meal, and you're thinking about dropping in on McDonald's or Burger King or Subway or any of the other corporate chain restaurants that infest our landscape, please consider supporting a place like Pancho's or Kitty's or Mario's or one of the other places that makes Kansas City different from Wichita or Los Angeles.

http://www.gonemild.com/2005/11/panchos-on-main.html

It's at 36th and Main across from the Lost Sock.  I recommend the machaca burrito.

Anyone going to the Incubus concert @ City Market friday? Never been to a concert there - any suggestions (parking, pre-concert bars, etc...)

I saw Slipknot, Lamb of God, and Shadows Fall at city market. Horribly dangerous venue for a metal concert (there's a curb to trip on, moshing + curb isn't good) but Incubus is stoner chill music so it should be fine.

Anyone going to the Incubus concert @ City Market friday? Never been to a concert there - any suggestions (parking, pre-concert bars, etc...)

idk. if it was anything like 311 was, it won't be chill.

anyone know of a song that would fit a Darren Kent Highlight Video.?

surprised you havent used linken park.

I Hate Them.

whats the difference with them and 311?

your whiteboy videos with gangster songs is played out.

you need some sex pistols or something. dig deep.

OMG!  USE TV on THE RADIO!!!!

what does this mean.??

What do you think it means?

I think Trim Reaper might have spare Incubus tickets, too.

No, we got it all figured out.  I'm meeting a couple buddies (Sprint Employees!) up there in the afternoon to head down to the spot.

Believe it or not, there may also be a trip to the Nebraska Furniture Mart on this outing in an effort to make my new loft more "badass" than kougar24's apartment.

My dad grew up in Philadelphia.  He owned his own sub shop in Atlantic City.

so, yes.

The closest thing to an east coast sub out here is Jersey Mikes. Get the signature 13, NO VINEGAR. VINEGAR has no place on a sandwich, ever.

Also, philly cheesesteaks should not contain green peppers.

The reason JJ's is more of a midwest thing than a east coast is the fact that they put mayo on everything.

The bread is pretty good though, simple and doesn't get in the way of the flavor of the "innards" of the sandwich.

The concert was underwhelming.  Didn't help that our plan for being down there by 4 was thwarted by Sprint jobs and it taking forever to get anywhere from Johnson County.  Olathe is the least badass town around.

Harry's was cool.

northern new york wtf mate.  upstate doesn't mean Lake Placid.
also notice saul said he "owned" a shop.  past tense, meaning that the subs were prolly made without oil and vinegar (an optional ingredient at JJ's) and therefore he got bought out by a huge Vinegar On Subs magnate (VOSm) who then made Microsoft.

For one thing it's flat and the stage wasn't that high - i could see fine but shorter people couldn't see anything. Also, where they had the stage set up was kind of jacked up, the overhang thing in the middle plus the big tent they had set up didn't help things. All in all I had a great time though and would go back to another concert there - just think it could be improved.

The flat area is only near the stage, everything else is a gradual incline up the hill.

Sounds like you are a shorty.  Shorties need to stand in front of the stage area, where it is flat, so you can look up at the stage, then you can see ;)

Actually I'm 6'6" - like I said I could see fine but some people around me that were shorter couldn't see too good. We were straight back from the stage and there was even a ledge there so we were up a little higher. Didn't really matter to me but my frieds were disapointed that they couldn't see very well.

nope I don't think anyone called me an asshole - i even let several shorter girls move in front of me. my buddy had a girl up on his shoulders and the people behind him were getting kind of pissed.

must of been another tall guy, I think this guy was probably closer to 6'9"...I went to the bathroom, I come back and he has taken my spot next to my girlfriend.  I ask her if I can stand behind her and she says 'why would I want you to stand behind me?!' and I'm like "so I don't have to stand behind this 7 foot tall prick.  So she asks him to move behind us since that is where I was before I went to the bathroom.  His response is 'I'll just stand right here.'  At that point my gf, goes apecrap and starts calling him an asshole over and over and he turns around and says 'sorry for being tall.'........that was before incubus came on stage..so we found another place to watch the show.

good times.

This thread is great.  It start with incubus, migrated to other music and pictures of Amy Winehouse, moved to sandwiches and an argument over hot/cold, vinegar/no vinegar/, east coast/not really east coast but still douches and has now moved on to a giant dude and a bitch for a girlfriend.  Absolutely fabulous and I can't wait to see where it heads next. :ksu:

Getting pissed off easy and often are the defining characteristics of a bitch.

QFT.  What would she have wanted for the tall lad to do?  I feel bad for being tall and blocking someone's view at a concert or event, but if I paid for my ticket or got there before the people behind me--- what can ya do?   :flush: to them...

MJ's got a hell of a racket going on.

So you PAY MJ so that you can spill your 'insiders information' aka "I talked to Freeman on facebook and he said we are going to be good this year."

That's genious...if it actually cons enough retards to pay up per month.

We gotta keep this thread alive.  Fight about something stupid, boxers or briefs; your favorite STD or STI or whatever they are calling those things these days; reasons you hate ku/NU/MU/WSU/Waks.  Work with me people

I got to thinking about this whole Incubus sucks topic and realized while Incubus does indeed suck they do have a couple decent songs.  311 on the other hand is nothing but dirty stoner music and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
