Scott Elarton, Odalis Perez, Octavio Dotel, Emil Brown, Mark Grudzielanek, Reggie Sanders and Mike Sweeney all could be candidates to be moved.
If you’re trying to gauge whether Moore will even attempt to ask Sweeney to accept a possible trade, understand that Moore is a believer in the captain.
“You want to know something about Mike Sweeney?” Moore said. “Our best possible lineup right now is the one with him in it.”
Moore is certainly confined by injury issues with Sanders, Grudzielanek and Elarton. And then there’s Sweeney, who is the remaining face of the franchise and who is a 10-5 guy (10 years in the league, five consecutive with the same club), meaning he can veto any deal.
As for Perez, Dotel and Brown, it’s likely Dotel has the most value.
But here’s one more thing to remember: While these veterans may not fit into the future, they’re not exactly holding up the present, either, although there are plenty of Royals fans eager to see Billy Butler get more at-bats up here.

I seriously don't understand what you gain from doing this every single day.

Playoff contention on a regular basis starting in 2009
If baseball was run like the NFL I'd love it but I really want an NBA team. An NBA team that is fun to watch. Certain aspects of the NBA are really exciting.

Several contenders have already inquired into Dotel’s availability. Jimmy Gobble, David Riske and Zack Greinke — especially Greinke — are also attracting interest. None are untradable, but the Royals have little interest in disrupting their bullpen.

Please Dayton Moore, don't mess with the pitching staff.

It appears the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as the most serious party yet in the Royals’ effort to seek an impact return by offering veteran closer Octavio Dotel before the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline.
Multiple sources confirm the Dodgers’ interest in Dotel, but they are balking at the Royals’ initial asking price — believed to be a young, established position player such as outfielder Matt Kemp or first baseman James Loney.
The Dodgers are unlikely to part with either for a short-term rental like Dotel, who can become a free agent after the season. It is because of his pending free-agency that the Royals are seeking to trade him to one of several contenders seeking bullpen help.

Go San Diego!
Good to see that Reggie is playing again, maybe someone will do us a favor and give us a nickel.

The Dodgers, Indians, Tigers, Red Sox and Braves are among those teams known to have some interest in Octavio Dotel.
Club officials are also hoping to generate interest in veteran outfielder Reggie Sanders, who returned Monday from two-plus months on the disabled list.
The Royals are dismissing, for now, a Chicago radio report alleging strong interest by the Cubs in reliever Zack Greinke. The Royals are willing to trade Greinke, but the price would be high.

What do we think of the possibility of Dotel to the Dodgers for 3B Andy LaRoche (who is considered their best prospect)?

I don't think we'd get LaRoche, but 1B James Loney or OF Matt Kemp are options.

According to mlbtraderumors.com the Cubs, Braves, D-Backs, and Dodgers are interested in Zach Greinke.

All 1B or DH.
If we get another, we need to unload a couple (not Butler).

Butler will be a career DH, Shealy is just about done, hopefully we won't resign Sweeney, Gload can play some of, so he's more of utility player, but will probably be gone. We might have our answer for a 1b in Omaha. Craig Brazell is having a great season, yet he's not even on our 40 man roster.

About Octavio Dotel.....
The Dodgers and Indians remain the most interested parties, but the Red Sox, Mets and others continue to keep in touch.
Los Angeles still seems the likeliest possibility. The Dodgers rebuffed interest in second baseman Tony Abreu, believed to be the Royals’ top preference, because they view him as a long-term replacement for Jeff Kent.
A possible alternative is shortstop Chin-Lung Hu, who is batting .349 with nine homers and 46 RBIs in 92 games this season at Class AAA Las Vegas and Class AA Jacksonville. Hu, 23, has always played shortstop, but scouts believe he could shift to second base.
The Dodgers are similarly reluctant to surrender Hu, but they have veteran shortstop Rafael Furcal under contract through next season.
The Indians are resisting the Royals’ interest in outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, who is batting .312 in part-time duty. Gutierrez, 24, has also spent time this season at Class AAA Buffalo. Another possibility is outfielder Ben Francisco, who has split time with Cleveland and Buffalo. Francisco, 25, is batting .282 in 39 big-league at-bats.
The Red Sox appear to have some interest in outfielder Reggie Sanders as well as Dotel. The Royals are actively shopping Sanders. Boston wants to dump Wily Mo Peña, who is batting just .202 in 59 games.
-
I'd like to see the Royals give Willy Mo a shot. He isn't having a great season this year, but in seasons where he had more than 300 abs, he averaged 24hr and about 54 rbi, while hitting in the .250's. Plus, cutting sanders' and Dotel's contracts would help come free agency.
The Mets have some interest in Grudz and possibly one of our OF (Brown or Sanders) now that Alou is injured. The Giants are interested in Odalis Perez( :hope: ). http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070723&content_id=2103882&vkey=trade2007&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I wouldn't be thrilled about any of the following being dealt, unless it was just a great deal with a player that was proven in the Bigs:
Gordon
Butler
Grudz
Pena
Teahen
Grienke
Gobble
Meche
Those are the guys I'd rather see signed long term and supplemented with another decent starter and a power hitter.
-
You know Gordon will start to reach superstar status and he'll be out the door. Royals good players = gone. Rinse, recycle, repeat over and over again.

Gordon, Butler, Teahen, Meche, Soria and Buck are the only players we won't shop. Grudz is getting old and has an option on his contract. If he reaches 500 abs, he'll be back next year. Grienke wont be traded. We have him locked up for a while. Pena is a temp fix. Although he's having a decent season, there's still a lot of room for improvement( plate discipline).
The Royals need starting pitching (need a lefty), corner OF that can hit for power, 1b that can hit for power, 2nd base, and a SS.
-
You're forgetting the Buddy factor. The guy is in love with keeping a handful of vets on the roster.
If we're going to keep some vets, might as well keep a very good player and leader like Grudz.
Dayton has said that while he doesn't want to trade Grienke, he would if the offer was right.
And if Pena has some discipline issues, Buck has major ones. Buck strikes out ALOT more, and is hitting 50 points lower. I like Buck, and hope he stays, but he is easily upgradeable.

Royals veteran Mark Grudzielanek is believed to be on a short list of second basemen eyed by the New York Mets as a possible replacement for injured Jose Valentin.

It's not the strike outs, its the walks. He's struck out 63 times to only 8 walks this season. Buck is our top hr guy. Besides, you don't look to get offense out of your catcher. Anything they do for you at the plate is a bonus( See 'Tek in Boston). Maybe we should've taken Posada back in the mid 90's when the yankees offered him for Chili Davis.
Dayton Moore would ask for a lot to give up Grienke(top 10 club prospect), which is why its not likely to happen.
Grudz is a solid everyday player, but he's overpaid. His last year in stl he only made 1m and where paying him 4m with a shot at a bonus.

Word on the street is that Reggie Sanders has been traded or is about to be.
A guy that works for fed ex claims to have helped Reggie pack.
The fact that they are using FedEx Express (sending it 3 day) would also imply that something has happened. Otherwise he could have used FedEx Ground, which would have been much cheaper and gotten it there in a weeks time or a moving service if they didn't need it there in a few days.

Most of the interest remains centered on veteran closer Octavio Dotel, with Seattle believed to be making a renewed push. The Indians, Dodgers, Braves, Red Sox, Yankees and Mets also appear in the mix.
The Mets remain interested in second baseman Mark Grudzielanek, and several teams continue to inquire about reliever Zack Greinke. The Royals are also trying to trade outfielder Reggie Sanders.
Opposing scouts still see the Indians and Dodgers as the clubs most likely to meet the Royals’ price.
The Dodgers remain reluctant to surrender any of their top minor-league infielders — particularly second baseman Tony Abreu, believed to be the Royals’ top preference.
The Royals also appear interested in shortstop Chin-Lung Hu, who was the most valuable player earlier this month in the All-Star Futures Game.
The Indians have two outfielders who interest the Royals: Franklin Gutierrez and Ben Francisco. The Royals appear to prefer Gutierrez, who would probably become their center fielder.
Cleveland is making a strong push to bolster its suspect bullpen but is still seeking a lower-cost alternative to Dotel.
Speculation by scouts is the Royals want the Mariners to surrender Wladimir Balentien or Adam Jones, both of whom profile as the type of power-hitting outfielder they sorely covet.
Jones, 21, was the 37th overall pick in the 2003 draft and entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the Mariners’ top prospect. He is batting .313 at Class AAA Tacoma with 24 homers and 81 RBIs in 96 games.
Scouts generally regard Jones, a center fielder, as a can’t-miss talent but are divided on Balentien, who offered more potential than production until this season.
-
It appears the Braves are making a push for Dotel.
mlbtraderumors.com (http://mlbtraderumors.com)
Interesting development via Ken Rosenthal: the Braves are close to a deal for Royals' closer Octavio Dotel. They apparently have made a better offer than finalists Cleveland and Los Angeles.
Royals GM Dayton Moore knows his way around Atlanta's farm system, of course. He had all kinds of player development roles within the Braves organization. The Braves' top three prospects heading into the season per Baseball America were Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, and Matt Harrison. With those three out of the picture perhaps Moore is going for outfielder Brandon Jones or first baseman Scott Thorman.

The Royals appeared to ready to trade veteran closer Octavio Dotel to the Atlanta Braves on Monday afternoon for right-handed starter Kyle Davies.
Davies looks similar to Zack Greinke. Had his struggles, but is young and has some solid stuff. I've also heard the Braves may add Brent Lillibridge to this deal.

Looks like the rumor right now is Dotel to Atlanta for Kyle Davies. I don't know much about Davies but with GMDM's ties to the Braves I have to think he knows what they've got.
