I would probably take Oden. He would be dominate for pretty much his whole career, like Patrick Ewing. But either way you really can't go wrong.
-
I would take Durant in a heartbeat! He is a scorer and a match-up nightmare. Oden's only quality is that he is tall. And that looks old. Give me a playmaker anyday over a washed up clown...

Durant. You just convinced me. Ewing... Ewing theory... yuck.
-
Durant. He's going to be very, very good for a long time. superstar. oden's ceiling is a lot lower. shoot for the stars.
-
Durant.
He will help a team right away
Oden,
Great defender, Needs to work on Offense, could take time before becomes a franchise player.
-
Oden. Durant can't bench 185. :shy:

Oden. Durant can't bench 185. :shy:
that is pretty sad, I barely ever lift weights and I can easily do 185. I guess his arms are too long

Yeah, that.*
*And he's a little bitch.

Tough call.
I'd take Durant. But just barely. Certainly I wouldn't mind being the GM choosing between them. Both can/will be championship caliber players that you can build a franchise around.

So is KG.

Not every franchise is as stupid in the front office as the Twolves.

Oden! Oden! Oden!
I've heard he's a combination of Tim Duncan and Patrick Ewing and that's good enough for me. In a league where there aren't many dominant Centers.....If one falls into your lap you take him while you can!
As far as Durant is concerned.....He's not going to be paid to lift weights he's going to be paid to play basketball and there weren't many players, if any, that he played against last year that were better then him. I'm thinking he's a mix between Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki. Not a bad consolation gift if you're Seattle.
The saddest thing for the league is that the majority of the country isn't going to get to see either of them play.
Oden! Oden! Oden!

The bench comment was a joke. And your post completely proves to me that all you do is reiterate what the sports pundits say. Maybe you should try thinking for yourself..

It depends on your needs. If you need an all out star, take Durant. If you have a star and need a postman, or don't have a star but really really need a postman, take Oden.

Neither Portland nor Seattle have much going for them.. I wouldn't be surprised to see Durant go number one, Portland said that is was one of the best workouts that they had ever seen.

Durant...the dude can score at will...but Kstate still beat him

Remember when he blocked Stew three times in a row?
ECN, can we get a gif of that?

They could be a perennially a great team with all of that talent.

I wonder if it means anything that on their ESPN.com Clubhouse page Portland already has Oden written in as the #1 pick? Seattle's already has Durant written in, Atlanta already has Al Horford written in and Memphis already has Yi Jianlian's name already written in. Coincidence or is that just the way the Mock Drafts have it? I'm too lazy to check.

I thought I remembered hearing that Atlanta has basically guaranteed Acie Law that he will get drafted by them. I know he canceled all of his other workouts. I just can't remember if it was Atlanta that they were talking about. I know it's a team that is in dire need of a point guard..

Anyone who would take durant over oden is crazy. oden performed better than durant, was faster stronger, higher vert. etc... and YOU DONT BUILD CHAMPIONSHIP NBA TEAMS AROUND SF! You build them around diminate centers who can control the paint, and oden is the closest thing to the next duncan that we will see in awhile.

god that was a terrible post
How the hell did Oden perform better than Durant
Oden- 15ppg 9rpg
Durant- 26ppg 11rpg
The combines IMO are a little bit overated, I wanna see what they do on the court and Durant had a much better season than Oden, and idc if oden's hand was messed up.

Who was the dominant center on the Bulls' squad of the nineties? For some reason I remember a guy that just went off and did all of the scoring. You know, like what Durant did at UT.
-
You take Durant.
-
Luc Longley?
-
I personally don't know if Oden will ever be a franchise player.
-
Plus it seems like taking a center nowdays has become a risk, think of all the recent busts. Kwame Brown, Andrew Bynum (we'll have to wait and see), and alot more.

Bill Cartwright was the sole reason for the Bulls success...obviously.
And your retarded to think oden had a higher vert and is faster than durant.
-
wow. 70% of the teams in the last 26 years that won nba championships had a dominant center. shaq, duncan, hakeem, kareem, russell, chamberlain, it goes back to the beginning of the nba. you get a dominant center that controls the paint and takes pressure off of your guards, you win championships. take your durant and finish right where tmac, nowitski, garnett, kobe without shaq, pierce, have finished, as losers. look at steve nash, he has never made the finals, but many consider him the best guard in the game. an nba team is nothing without a formidable big man. sorry but durant is not the next jordan, hell lebron isn't even the next jordan. he is the exception.
-
Durant will sell tickets. More so than Oden would. That's something that both franchises need.

hey teamramrd who is retarded now, bitch.
"Oden is faster than Durant in the 3/4-court sprint, quicker in the lane-agility drill, and has better numbers in the running and standing vertical leaps. And, Oden has a mind-boggling 7.8 body-fat percentage ... most big men are north of the 12 percent range. For instance, other top-rated big men such as Washington's Spencer Hawes (13.0), Duke's Josh McRoberts (13.7) and Pitt's Aaron Gray (10.8) don't compare.
Let's get to the specifics.
Oden is 6-foot-11 without shoes, 7-feet with shoes.
He weighs 257 pounds.
His wingspan is 7 feet, 4.25 inches (fourth best in the draft). His standing reach is 9 feet, 4 inches (the highest of anyone in the draft). His standing vertical is 32 inches, his running vertical 34 inches.
The lane agility drill, where a player runs through cones alternating between running backward, sideways and forward, is 11.67 seconds. And his 3/4 court sprint was 3.27 seconds.
The thing that jumps out is Oden's speed and agility.
We all know Oregon's Aaron Brooks is fast. Brooks finished the 3/4 court sprint in 3.2 seconds. Oden was 3.27 seconds. Durant, meanwhile, finished in 3.45.
Oden's 11.67 in the agility drill speaks volumes to the footwork so many scouts rave about. Durant did the same drill in 12.33.
Durant's specifics are as follows:
Height: 6-foot-9 without shoes, 6-foot-10.25 with shoes. Weight: 215.
Wing span: 7-foot-4.75 (second longest in the draft - Maryland's Ekene Ibekwe is 7-6). Standing reach: 9-2.
Body fat: 6.6. Standing vertical jump: 26.0 inches; running vertical jump, 33.5 inches. Lane agility: 12.33 seconds and 3/4 court sprint, 3.45 seconds."

Durant will sell tickets. More so than Oden would. That's something that both franchises need.
This explains a lot about k state fans. You would rather sell tickets than win nba championships. Don't you think the winning of the nba finals will generate ticket sales? Duh.

No. It would explain a lot about GMs and owners. I would much rather the Royals/Chiefs when championships. However, management for both teams just tries to sell tickets. You get the point?
-
ok and what is the most effective way to sell tickets? every single gm owner, coach etc... will say winning championships. it gets you the most exposure, pleases the fans, a full year of being the champs and using that to your advantage marketing wise etc... oden is the best bet to win a championship or even 2 or 3 in the next 10 years.

But it's still a bet. Durant is a done deal to sell a lot of tickets because he's extremely exciting to watch play. People that don't appreciate San Antonio Spurs-like play won't appreciate the play of Oden. They aren't guaranteed to win a championship so a lot of GMs would just take the easy way out and choose Durant.

This will be a fun thread to revisit in a few seasons. Especially if Bong's prediction turns out like his high school and college schooling.

Bong, good work on posting the info on the two players...best post you've ever had here. Of course, you screwed it up with your next post but, hey, we expected that. I would take Oden. I don't think he's Sam Bowie and I don't think Durant is Michael Jordan. Because of Durant's physical weakness, I think his inside potential is limited. He could end up being Sharif Abdir Raheem...or T-Mac. I don't think Oden will be Michael Olawakandi and has a much better chance of being Patrick Ewing...hopefully with better knees. Good centers that can actually play and contribute in all phases in the post are hard to find. When you play hoops with a good center the rest of the game is so much easier for the other players. Oden has been in the national eye for a few years as the up and coming best center prospect. Andrew Bynum, Olawakandi, etc. were just one year guys the scouts fell in love with. Oden it is! That being settled...Sonics to KC? That would be great and the OK City coliseum supposedly has very few suites for big revenue. However, AEG is so pumped about the NHL that we'll likely end up with some scrub NHL expansion team...which should last about 5 yrs before moving.

They want both for the Sprint Center. NBA and NHL. I have no complaints. I really want an NBA team.
The Sprint Center was 250 million and the Ford Center was only 80 million. The Sprint Center also holds more than the Ford Center and offers I think three times the amount of revenue. But still, Liewenke is from OKC. The Oklahoma City fans proved that they'd show for an NBA team. If the Sonics move, it will be to OKC.
-

I know OKC has been considered at the front because of ties from ownership, but 3x the revenue is a strong allure.
I know the stated line has been and NBA and an NHL team. I just keep seeing and hearing AEG working on NHL stuff. I know there is no imminent NBA move (other than the Sonics potential move...and, of course, the New Orleans team), but I sure would like to see some NBA focus. The Penguins made sense because they presumably would've been able to win the first few seasons and that would perhaps make enough new fans to set them up for slower seasons. With Nashville out, an expansion team is, I think death to hockey in KC. The NBA already has some following and everyone knows how the game is played (or at least thinks they do). My heart is obviously with an NBA team as well. I'd just like to hear that AEG is working on that.
-
You cannot go wrong with either of these guys. I think both will be perennial all-stars at some point in their career. The big man has been central to most NBA championship teams (especially those in the dynasty category), except for Mr. Jordan of course, but recent rule changes have altered the way the NBA game is reffed making it a more perimeter oriented game. In other words, I think more than ever in the last 20 years, the NBA game is about perimeter speed. You cannot check players in the paint the way you used to, making a quick perimeter player with ball skills who can shoot free throws, very valuable. So.....I'd take Durant because, irregardless of his agility scores, etc. the man just looks like a natural player on the floor and his ceiling is much higher. Ball skills can be improved and probably will. Oden is a beast and Portland will likely take him because the perception that a possible hall of fame center could land in their laps is just too tantalizing based on NBA history mentioned above. Anyone thinking that they will take Durant based on things being said about how well his workout went is crazy. From the Blazers perspective, they need to tout Durant as the man and keep giving people even the slightest idea that they may take him. Basically, they are probably listening to any and all offers and an effective way to maximize the # of offer you get and the quality is to keep what you are doing secretive. Bottom line, Oden did not work out with Seattle for a reason - he will be a Blazer.
The A. Law to the Hawks rumor sounds like it is going to happen. I suppose it depends on how bad the Hawks want to draft a C/PF at #3, b/c I doubt they take Law there, more than likely at #11 (or whatever their other pick is).
PS - How stupid is this guy for staying in the draft? I suppose I'd want to leave Stillwater, OK too though.

waks, i am going to use the chiefs against you. we have one of the most electrifying players in the nfl on our team in larry johnson, but i gaurantee you when we start to finish 7-9 and 6-10, arrowhead will be half full. i have season tickets to chiefs games and i can tell you the demand for tickets were astronomical the year after 97 and 03, because we fielded a dominate team that won. look at it this year. we are already advertising for chiefs tickets that are going on sale and it is june. i have never seen an advertisement for chiefs tickets before late july/early august. if you dont win, you will not fill up the stands. simple as that.

So you're telling me that you wouldn't follow the Hawks if you guys started tanking in basketball? Why do thirty thousand people still routinely go to your football games? The Chiefs have how many consecutive sell out seasons? Under how many mediocre years? Same with the Huskers. They had some down years but have sold out every single game since the seventies. Management cares about making money. Durant is a sure fire way to do that because he is exciting to watch. Oden isn't the most exciting player to watch and also doesn't guarantee a championship, he doesn't even come close to guaranteeing one. I'm not saying Durant will go number one but people make too much of this whole Oden is guaranteed number 1.
-

Dude are you retarded. The Chiefs have the best fans in the NFL, they could go 5-11 and every game would still be sold out. They've been through some down years in the recent past, 6-10 and 7-9 w/in the last 5 years, and each year arrowhead was filled every game.
-
um i have been to 95% of the chiefs games in the last 10 years and this is incorrect. we had numerous no shows, like 10,000 plus in those down seasons. they were only a sell out because cbs bought the remaining tickets to air the games and prevent a blackout. they did that 3 times last year alone. and also last year my buddy got row 4 tickets from the chiefs a day before gameday. for the season opener.

It's still a sellout. They still collect all of the money. That's all they care about. Money.

Back to the original topic the correct answer is Oden. Big men win championships:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Bill Walton
Willis Reed
Wes Unseld
Moses Malone
Wilt Chamberlain
Bill Russell
George Mikan
Robert Parish
Dave Cowens
Total # of Championships - 47
-
You left out Luc Longley, and the fact that none of the players listed have played in the NBA in the past 2 decades.
The game has changed, please continue to ignore that as much as we ignore you.

Dude how could you put Walton in there. He was a sixth man when the Celts won it all, he played behind Parrish. Dude you could make a list just like this using only forwards, or guards.

There aren't a whole lot of true Centers anymore so you better get one when you can. That's why you take Oden #1.....You better get one when you can. I was referring to Big Men in general.

*Hint 1* Durant is considered a "Big Man"
*Hint 2* Durant has more range than Oden
*Hint 3* Oden's game and potential is far more limited than Durant's
Obviously Portland agrees with you, I'm just making my point.

I would've taken Durant but I'm glad the Sonics got him.

You left out Luc Longley, and the fact that none of the players listed have played in the NBA in the past 2 decades.
The game has changed, please continue to ignore that as much as we ignore you.
Tim Duncan.....Shaquille O'Neal.....Hakeem Olajuwon.....

Ok.....
Kevin Durant (Big Man) - 6'10" 215 lbs
Greg Oden (MUCH Bigger Man) - 7'0" 257 lbs

Wow, two &@#%ing inches, and steroids.

Horford is still better than Oden.

Not really, without Oden the Buckeyes wou'dnt have made it past Xavier or Tenn. or to the ff. And Horford just won a National Championship and won against Oden head to head twice.

Yes and we wouldn't have one against Texas or USC w/out Cartier Martin. You can say that about a certain player for every team. I'm not saying they are bad I just don't see Oden dominating at all in the NBA. I think he'll be a 15 and 10 guy, same w/ Horford. Big guys taken early have been busts in recent years, ala Kwame Brown.

Bump for Oden being out for the year and having the body of a 40-year old man...

It's a shame about Oden but I'd rather have it happen now and get it over with. He's got a long career ahead of him.
-
Just like I've always said. Oden will be an average player at best in the NBA.

Do you think he will win more than 2 championships??
