What was your favorite play from last year?
Mine was a play that was actually from the Colorado game, in the second half. I can't honestly remember exactly how the play started. I think it was a pass or pitch to a wideout who reversed (Figurs??) all the way to the other side of the field. He lined up on the right side, and ran all the way to the left side, and then all the way for a touchdown on the left side. Why is that my favorite play? The blockers. I think I saw a quarterback (Freeman, who's an EXCELLENT blocker btw for a quarterback), a wideout(can't remember who, Jordy?), a tight end (also can't remember who,) and a running back(Probably Johnson.)
I really loved that play because people who are used to having the ball and being playmakers were also willing to run all the way downfield and block the entire way, not being afraid to 'get dirty' and do a little of the hard work/blocking.
Honorable mention:
Halfback pass from Leon Patton to Ced?? in Texas game. I love trick plays, especially that one because it was like a kick in the nuts to Texas because we had JUST executed a trick play against them on the previous play.
Least favorite play: Bootleg left, It was used often starting about the Colorado game, and after opponents were expecting it, it was pretty much worthless and actually hurt us a lot in the ku and Rutgers games.
-
Jordy's catch and run/hobbling down the field for a td against CU.
Or The blocked punt against texas in the 3rd quarter(?). That was badass.
-
Leon Patton's kickoff return for a TD against OK State!
-
the run by freeman against osu. that play pretty much saved the season
-
Second halfback pass at Texas. Never saw two in a row before that, unless it was on a playstation. Least favorite play: Dylan going long on the first play of the season, and throwing an interception.
-
The OSU and Texas games are just full of good plays. The one that Phreak described was really cool because Freeman blocked a guy all the way into the endzone and just ran him over.
-
Illinois State's stupid head coach going for 2.

I agree - that was shocking, amazing and wonderful all in one.

the penalty that followed too? LOL (we got two of those penalties last year)

 Not trying to make fun of you phreak but "my favorite play was when one guy, can't remember, ran a reverse or a pitch or a pass, can't remember, and another guy, can't remember, made a block with another player, can't remember running down the field with a running back, can't remember, in there too somewhere, just can't remember where."
I agree though, that was a badass play and perfect timing with the reverse. Not many times do you see a QB running defensive players over while blocking.
My favorite was Freeman's run against Ok. State. I about sharted my pants. :woohoo:
-
it's not as sexy, but that first td pass from freeman to figurs against texas. at that point ut had just marched down the field and got a phantom td on a fourth down play. didn't know for sure that mccoy was out.
coming right back with that td was just draw dropping and inspiring.
-
Screen pass to Jordy to end the Texas game. Eveyone around me started pissing when they saw Freeman throwing and then Jordy caught it and the clock kept going. That was less flashy than the Halfback pass, but definately BOLD and DARING.

From where I was sitting....it didn't look like Jordy got the first down but, he did and it saved the game. :dancin:

Yeah, you're right.
The real reason it was my favorite play is because Freeman pushed some poor Colorado safety all the way through the endzone. It's not often a quarterback physically demolishes a defender. And it's not often a quarterback is blocking either.

You missed the best blocker on that play, Wafford. He made the road for Figurs. He plowed number 25 for Colorado and got up and flexed in his face. That was my favortie play because of him and Freeman blocking.

Well at least someone remembers the play.
That would make sense. And kudos for Wafford for hauling the entire way down there. Not bad for someone who had a tough time with the PUP test.

Wow. I feel like you are uneducated. That is Hafferty, John Hafferty that is.

the first TD pass to Figurs.
That play was Freeman at his best. A good play action fake and an absolute strike to Figurs on a deep post over the middle. That was an NFL throw and got me back on the Freeman 4 Heisman OMG!!1 bandwagon. I want to be on that sucker. It's fun on there.

Is it really that hard to read sarcasm? Just curious.. Maybe I should have put an emoticon in my post and then it would have been easier.

Well, maybe you should use more than just a sentence with a ?, but I get it now that you put icons up and told me it was sarcasm.

The thing that you are describing is called a question. And often you will find that people are very vague when being sarcastic. Try to keep up.

Vague? Please, you had concrete detail in there when refering to WVU. If you wanted to be vague you would of stated, "Is that the player that left?"

Vague as in it wasn't obvious, only subtle. Usually intelligent people would pick up on it but you seem to suffer in that area.

I guess you just feel threatened because a cub called you on out your post that was vague and for some reason that means sarcasm in the world of knowledge. So I will accept defeat and say you are the almighty poster of sarcasm with vagueness.

QB sneak, when we finally used it...I think it was in the Texas game?
-
When we almost paralyzed Colt McCoy.

The Freeman GW TD against Okie State was probably my favorite. I sit in the corner of that endzone and as the play unfolded and I started going crazy I just kept thinking "you could not have scripted this game any better." Freeman's first start as a true freshman after all of the hype and he leads the team to a comeback victory in a home game that we desperately needed to keep from CUing the rest of the season. It was how the game set-up and then unfolded in the 4th quarter that made it pretty incredible.

Right when this score happened there was something different in the air and I remember thinking "Holy @#%$, this team has something special tonight, we can win this thing, we're going to win this thing."
-Leon Patton's TD toss to Wilson in the Texas game because of the B&D factor with 2 trick plays in a row.
-The whole 3rd quarter of the Texas game.
-Leon Patton's KO return for a TD in the Okie State game. That was huge because we needed all of the ST points we could get to squeak it out since the offense was in super conservative mode for 3 qtrs. ST had a coming out party that game.
-Jordy's long TD catch and run in the CU game that probably sealed it.
-Figures reverse in the CU game.
-Johnson's TD run from about 25 yards out in the Iowa State game that I think broke it open for us. Before it, I was worried we'd lose and not make a bowl game again.
-Illinois State goal line stand on 2-pt conversion to decide the game. Again, right where I sit I saw it clear and close right down the line. I was about to throw-up had they made it. That could have ended our bowl hopes in week 1. Incredible stepping up by the defensive front to stuff it.
-Colt McCoy wincing in pain on the sideline. Not the the play, just the wincing in pain.
-
Illinois State's stupid head coach going for 2.
I think the stupider play was him taking the fifteen yard penalty for diving in on the kickoff, thus allowing us to go for two instead of forcing us to kick a long extra point.
-
JF's td versus OSU.
-
I loved JF's scramble for a TD against OSU, but it's hard for that to be my favorite play because it wasn't well executed at all. In fact, the play had blown up, and if Freeman's athleticism hadn't taken over and won that game, we might have not gone to a bowl game at all.
-
That's what made the play so exciting! It was also the crecendo of an incredible comeback. :woohoo:
-
True.
Man, that reminds me. I missed like THREE home games all year. Care to guess which three they were?
Florida Atlantic(yawn)
Oklahoma State(was pissed about missing this one)
Texas(mother &@#%er)
-
The only game I missed was Marshall but saw it on TV and it seemed like somewhat of a snoozer win.
Best games were:
1. Texas, signature win
2. Oklahoma State, Freeman's first game as starter, leads comeback victory
3. Iowa State, because it was a must win to make a bowl game
4. FAU, because we found out we didn't totally blow balls
5. Marshall, because we won
6. Louisville, gave hopes for a good defense
7. Illinois State
8. Nebraska

I wish Freeman would do more scrambling/running this year (minus the fumbling).

That sounds a lot like the play (though it was a pass, not a run) to beat ku in 92.
I suppose I point to two stretches of about 5 minutes from last year that are significant; the last 5 minutes vs OSU and the 5 minute span in the 3rd quarter vs UT where we built our lead as being the major moments I remember as favorites. Those 10 minutes made our season; by far our two most significant wins and the difference between being 7-6 or 5-7 (or worse).

I agree. He's not a running QB and we shouldn't try to make him into one - but even prostyle QBs should scramble when there are huge yards to be had. I think Prince and Franklin are coaching him to be patient in the pocket and make smart throws, discouraging him from scrambling. It's good to have him making better decisions, but taking scrambling completely out of the picture handicaps us IMO.

That pass was in 91. 92 was my freshman year and we got demolished in Lawerence. :crybaby:
I'm going with the Freeman scramble against OSU. That was the only chance I had to make it back up to Manhattan last year, and that play happened right in front of me. After witnessing Freeman's performance against Baylor first hand, I didn't think he had that in him. I was glad I was wrong.
-
by and large being patient in the pocket will yield bigger plays and more points than scrambling.
freeman has athleticism, but he's no bishop/roberson/beasley.
jason smargiasso scambled.
