Title: Any word on the Renovations
Post by: DNeg on May 08, 2007, 04:58:25 PM
Does anyone know what all is happening at the bram besides the luxurary boxes?
Maybe a new floor or acoustical changes to make the place louder than it already is?
 :woohoo:

Coach Oppenheimer mentioned the new practice facility in one of the recent articles, so that seems to be a 'go' again.

Your Wooly Practice Facility would make a nice run down version of Rustys.

The floor was recently repainted. Plans weren't to repaint it for a few years, but this could get bumped up with the new 3-point line...  :hope:

The plans for that practice facility came straight from the Ivory Coast.

True.  Was just happy to read somebody in the program talking about it again after the rumor of design work stopping during the Huggins saga.

The renovations will move forward.  I'm sure how quickly will be a bit determined by the season ticket responce this summer.  I think the plan is to still move forward with the loge seating (http://admin.xosn.com//pdf6/60209.pdf) right after KSU/MHS graduation is over.

The Bramlage improvements look to be (http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=400&KEY=&ATCLID=69614) broken down into 3 stages now; Loge Seating, West Side Expansion (Additional Sports Offices, New Ticket Office, Common Area for Donors), and Auxiliary Gymnasium.

Practice Facility design work has been back on for a month now.

design work did stop a day or so before Huggins announced he was leaving, no rumor.

money might be an issue though, we'll see how great this thing turns out.

If true, that's utterly disappointing.  Also, they couldn't have picked a worse time to try and build.

Have you heard whether or not "towers" are involved in the football stadium renovation?

I hope the west side entrance looks something like this:

In a nutshell, my buddy Timmy keep screwing around with things, and has some really dumbass ideas.

Can you give some examples or are you just assuming?

The original HOK proposal has been dumbed way down, they originally designed a facility that would be built on to the west side of the Arena, that would have two full length courts and be a state of the art basketball center for both the men's and women's program.   The top floor being the two basketball courts, with a "Grand Entrance" reception area and  offices for the men's and women's program.  The lower level would've been a new basketball weightroom and dressing rooms for both the men's and the womens with a new tunnel entrance into Bramlage that would've come out of the West side stands (Alumni side).   Had KSU gone with that, it quite frankly would've been one of the Top 3 collegiate basketball practice/office facilities in the country.

HOK Designed a 2 story HOF that would run the length of the South End of The Stadium and be built on to Bramlage with the Legends Room Doubling in size and being able to overlook both the football stadium and basketball court.  The first floor of the HOF facility would've actually have been a tunnel from the East to West sides of the stadium (and vice versa). The entrances on all four sides would have been expanded on Bramlage, and a new athletic administrative office facility would've been attached to the HOF sitting on the Northwest Corner of Bramlage/Southwest corner of the football stadium.  The new South videoboard for the football stadium would've been installed on top of the HOF facility overlooking the stadium.

Now Weiser is looking at a considerably dumbed down practice facility to built on the South side of Bramlage, and I don't know what they're looking at now for the administrative offices and HOF.

The original HOK designed also called for the sports complex parking lot to be broken up with Boulevards.  Imagine two Capital T's with the Crossed part being the entrances to the East and West Side of the Football Stadium.  The West Side of the Football stadium would get all new restrooms and concessions, the "entry way" on the east and west side would (the Crossed T section running from Bramlage to Kimball on both sides) would be lined (every 20 or 30 feet) with 12 foot or so tall limestone pillars that had focused spotlights shooting pillars of light into the sky, with KSU engravings on each.  There would also be trees planted and sitting benches in this "plaza".    The bisection of this would be two boulevards one on each side of the stadium running from the stadium entrances to College on the West Side and to the grass parking on the East Side (with vehicle lanes to several sections of course to cross to the other side of the boulevard).   Those parkways or boulevards would've been about 100 yards wide with walkways to the stadium entrances on both sides that had limestone inlay, and with the same limestone pillars as the stadium entry plazas every so often commemorating a decade of the University and with university related engravings on each.   The middle would've been grass and available for a "cat town" setting on both sides with Corporate tents and such.   In the parkways there would've been plots for planting flowers encircling tall grass prarie grasses.  Think of Ward Parkway in KC only commerating KSU's Flinthills, limestone prarie heritage.  Every so many feet a tree would've been planted along the parkway sidewalks as well.

But from what I hear that was all too much for Weiser to chew on

Would the spotlights have a powercat symbol on them like Batman?  That would be the coolest part.  Although the state of the art facilities would've been ok I guess.  BTW, how much was that going to cost?  The description you gave made it sound like about eleventy billion dollars.

Yep Hiatt. Just wait to see how us KC area folks get hosed with the renovations at the Truman Sports Complex. All these ideas they threw out at vote time and already the Royals are scaling back their plans.

Conservatism around here is what holds us back in all sports around here.  Half ass the building projects and you get half ass teams. Especially when recruiting against the likes of Florida, U$C, NU, UT, uk, etc.

People have said the rennovation at Vanier was done right.  I've got friend who toured Vanier tell me that it was still not that great.  If doing a $5million end-zone job is being called "done right", then what the hell is Nebraskas $30 End Zone job?
I'll repeat it till the day I die "CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER ATHELETES DESERVE CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER FACILITIES"  And you can say the same for ANY academic builing.  I'm an architecture alum and all 3 programs are ranked in the top 7 in the country, and seaton hall is a @#%$-hole.

What?  The wood floor looks nice, till you spill a drink and it drips onto the studio below.  Or how the cracks are so big you can take a ruler and drop it into the studio below.  Or when it rained and the ceiling leaked all over students computers, myself included...yeah it's nice.

Fatty, They do a good job of trying to keep it maintained...you should walk through seaton court, or the area connecting seaton hall and seaton court, not so nice.

You also have to love the use of soft wood for the "hard wood" floors. They looked nice for about 2 weeks until everybody started moving all the computer boxes into the studios and the weight destroyed them. I think they spent as much on the oak baseboards as they did on anything else in the renovation.

The nicest part about Seaton Hall is the basement that was designed and built by architecture students. Imagine that, taking advantage of the quality architecture program resulted in a better product.

I think I liked my studio the semester we were relocated in the Pizza Shuttle complex better than the studios in Seaton. At least we were closer to the @#%$ty food.

I've been through nearly all of Vanier in the past month.  I was extremely impressed.  Granted, I haven't seen other places, but the upgrades in Vanier improved it a bunch from what I had seen in the past.  I don't see how you couldn't sell a recruit with the way it looks now.

And once the limestone face around the base of the stadium is done, I think it will look very nice with the north endzone.

Look, I want our facilities to be the best in the nation, but I also realize the base we have for finances.  I don't see what we've done for football facilities the last couple years as being done halfway at all.

As far as this goes, the improvements definitely helped being the facility up to a D-1 level, which had not been previously under Snyder.  The problem is, it's still light years behind the upper echelon schools of the Big XII, and doesn't even come close to even what a school like Mizzou offers.

I will build it.  I will get a case of beer, 40 friends and I will f***ing build it.  For free.  Someone get me Tim's cell.

Cub of the week!  (Other cubs take notes on this man's post).

Can someone please make a good drawing of what this would look like from an aerial view. I can hardly imagine all of what Dax is describing. Three Katpaks and an Endzone dive for whoever creates it.

You guys misunderstood me.  I meant a case of cases, which is like some sort of über-case that even I lack the vocabulary to accurately describe.

It doesn't matter what you think. Now that you are over here they will kick you out of their circle. You have to post under a different handle like me and then they will never know.
