Remember those folks that would always cheer for K-State in football and ku in basketball? Fair wheater fans always pissed me off. I really don't see that much difference in those guys versus the ones that automatically throw Freeman aside after a bad performance at the Spring Game. Sure, reference the Texas Bowl and ku game, however then you were still at Freeman's side. The truth is, you got a taste of Coffman, playing versus the weaker defense of the two. He had some good streaks, but remember that of those 19 pts scored only one was could be called earned offense points. A safety, a field goal and starting a TD drive within the five hardly give credit to Coffman as a starting QB.
Freeman has some strides to make. Those streaks of brillance (last couple minutes of OSU, Texas game, do you remember his completetion rate in Bolder?) show that he has the potential to be not only our main man, but the one the Nation is watching. Remember, Freeman was National Player of the Week and two-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week...as a TRUE FRESHMAN. Don't judge the career Freeman has before him off the turnover ratio that occurs when you start a true freshman. He should be prime for his sophomore campaign and if things go right, a Heisman candidate for his junior year. Coffman's performance in the Spring Game should give confidence that we can be alright if Freeman goes down.

They're just flaming.

Sure the potential is there. But what is it in your mind that says he's going to take that potential and do something with it?

Roberson had a TON of hype. I'll never forget when he torched the #1 D his first spring game. Came in as arguably the top offensive player in the state of TX and one of the Top 20 QBs in the nation. Roberson was well hyped, on a scale similar to Freeman, he just was coming in when the program was at its peak so he wasn't expected to save the program "by himself.

I'm not saying Freeman shouldn't start and that Coffman should, I think that is nuts. However at this point, I'm not expecting a Freeman for Heisman campaign. Calling anyone who disagrees with you a fair weather fan is stupid. I don't think Freeman is all that great and I will certainly still be at every game this season cheering him and the team on. I hope Freeman becomes what he is capable of but I haven't seen the "savior of the program" that so many are ready to name him. I'll hope for the best and reserve judgment for now.
"If you want to crown him, crown him already!"

Holy crap... It's spread to two threads now. :loly:

All I am just saying is that we all stood behind Freeman when things were going good. After the OSU comeback, we talked crap on Nebraska. After Colorado and Texas performances, almost all of us were ready to crown him. I guess the argument isn't if Freeman is good or not... I may have expanded too much on that aspect earlier. The argument that I am presenting is this, we shouldn't disregard any player by a spring game performance. If your gonna stand behind a player or team one week, do the same the next. In the same argument, I guess I shouldn't be placing Freeman on a pedistal for some great performances when some are weaker. However, when since I chose to back him from day one, you won't see me back away from my word.

I dont think there are too many KSU fans who have thrown Freeman under the bus, or have given up on him. I think his past 3 performances were more of a reality check for all of KSU nation. After OSU, CU, UT games we all thought the kid had the potential to be untouchable. But, once some teams got to him it was obvious he was human. I dont think he will even be a top 3 qb in the big 12 this year. He's a sophomore, and I dont expect him to be earth shattering.
I, along with most other ksu fans, will support him 100% and he should be the starter. He has huge upside, but he has a TON to prove, just like RP.
I will go out and say this...he wont ever reach the level that Bishop or yes, Beasely did.
Hopefully i'm wrong...

I think I said something about intential nonsense earlier in the week... 8)

Hard to know what to think of Freeman. When the kid is good he's damn good looks unstoppable. Take that CU game one of the better peformances I've seen by a QB just picked CU apart like they were not even there and though CU wasn't a good team they actually had a pretty good defense.
But when the kid is bad he is just flat awful look at the MU game or the ku game a couple of times in those games he just flat dropped the ball with no one near him and gave it to the other team. Say what you want about the o-line but he was the main problem in those games we were effective on the ground in both games which as Prince would say should be a QB's best friend. Those were also two of the lower rated defenses in the big 12 he was facing.
I tend to think he's young and he'll become more consistent. Obbvioulsy he has some ability you don't do what he did against CU, OSU and Texas by luck but I also think he has some mental issues to work through. When things don't go his way early he just folds up his tent and packs it in especially in road games. We saw the same thing in the spring game his supporting cast sucked but his decision making was terrible and once he made a mistake or two he just got worse and worse. He's been around long enough now and played enough that youth isn't an excuse anymore as Dick Vermeil would say it's time for Josh to take the diapers off.
