From all the tweets and pictures I've seen, the conditions in hotels are horrible.  Also, t.a.t.u. performed in the opening ceremonies which is ironic.

Russian Police Choir performing "Get Lucky"!!!!

http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/russian-police-choir-performs-get-lucky-opening-ceremony

That was uncomfortable to watch.  I wish they would embrace their own culture more and not sing a song that was made popular in the U.S.  The great thing about the Olympics and opening ceremonies (in my opinion) is seeing the hosting country embrace their culture (current and past).

I took a Russian History class in college. Trust me, it's probably best to just do it this way.

Top ten movie from the 90's. Study up you guys.

This was on TV last night as a matter of fact.

A young Brock Landers used this movie several times to get some romancin' with the ladies.  Would go to the video store and be all "Hey, The Cutting Edge. I haven't seen this yet, have you??!?"

810 spoke about this two days ago. Their version of gE over there. Complaining about the littiest things and looking for an overreaction for the audience.

best part about it was the USA announcer people (matt lauer was one I think?) who made tons of dick and backhanded compliment type statements about Russia the whole time.

this is showing the hipsters they had in the 1960s in russia. this is really overplaying the amount they had because obviously this was the height of the communist regime and it wasn't like this at all.

That's right, Matt. Some guy, I forgot his name because all Russian names look the same, bootlegged a copy of Rubber Soul and listened to it with 1 friend in crude lean-to. They might have danced, just like this!

I kept wondering if they were going to mention Lenin and by extension mass genocide, but they just spent an s-ton of time focusing on the Industrial Revolution.  Stalin big time...

I thought the opening ceremonies were pretty good. The idea of projecting each country like they did for the athletes to come out in (or really anything they did with those projectors) was pretty sweet. Sure the whole communist revolution glossed over a lot of the not so great parts, but really, the whole history of Russia and their long use of serfdom well after industrialization hit Europe meant a lot of brushing over the worst of oppressive regimes, but it was kinda of nice that they owned that era instead of running away from it (The Soviet era parade stuff ). It was kinda fun to listen to the backhanded compliments from Lauer and that one lady who lived in Soviet Russia for like 4 years, until after an hour of it that it really got annoying, especially for the whole striking part of Russian Revolution, which was done artfully amazingly. What I kept thinking about our commentary was how this must be what it's like for all the countries who hate us when we put on shows like this. Also, it was kinda fun to see teams come in in Cyrillic alphabet order, just fascinating seeing it be very out of order to us, and led to a few interesting teams come out after one another (Israel-Iran, Jamaica being essentially last next to Russia).
