Ridiculously efficient offense with a bunch of long shooters.  I think we'll plan well for Burks/Higgins (they'll get points though), but am worried about drive way shooter Knutson.  Anyone and everyone on their team will shoot the three, so we'll be all spread out, so watch on ball defense/dribble drives.  This team has really solid ball handlers as well, they don't turn the ball over much at all.

Offensively we have to handle the ball better and though CU is average in almost every defensive category, they do force steals, probably b/c they are so long.  This is a game that we have to play much better inside the paint as well, OSU beat us on the offensive glass and scoring.  We need Jamar and Wally to get 20 and 15 or so.

Pace should be fine, CU likes to play fast this year.  IMO they are a finesse team and we need to rough the game up, not quite the fouling we saw in Stillwater, but I'm good with ugly basketball tonight.  I think we win in the OOD, scared to death of playing in Boulder this year.

kenpom has it at 8 pts.  what's your predicto.  i haven't seen CU play all year except for a few possessions.  if there is a trend it's that KSU isn't covering the kenpom spread.

Yeah, but I'm much more worried about drives and kicks.  Nearly everyone on CU is good at making jumpshots so we've got to be careful with help.  However, they don't really rely on the three too much, but shoot a bunch of 2PT jumpshots and are decent at getting to the rim.

Is the OOD a tougher place to play than the Lavietes Pavilion? God, I hope so.

I think at least 1 of our bigs is going to be able to exploit our size and athleticism advantage in the paint, with Samuels being the most likely. I think Pullen stays aggressive but smart offensively and gets to the line a lot.

Very true, but they've improved a lot and gotten used to Boyle's style since then.

I will be very pleased if we hold them under 65, and we'll win big.  But I think the score will be higher; more like 82-73 Cats or something.

The thought of any opponent of ours scoring over 70 on us scares the hell out of me, especially without CK(and his head on straight of course).

We're going to get some looks, or at least opportunites in the paint tonight, and I think it really comes down to if we're able to convert, either at the line or simply finishing at the rim, at a reasonably successful rate.

True, but in a game at a 70+ pace we can still play decent defense and give up 70 points.  We'll see; I'm hoping for one of our ridiculous defensive games where we cause CU all kinds of problems and hold them down, which could be possible for them coming off their big win and in the toughest environment they've played in this season.  But in our last game without Kelly, I can also see us having some of the same struggles as we did at OSU, but having a bit more offense and winning late b/c we are at home.

Yeah, it'll be pretty disappointing if we don't see a lot of energy, effort, and just plain old JYC ball tonight, especially on the defensive end.

Still have to be assignment sound(backdoor cuts!)but really, there's no excuse to not be completely locked in tonight.

Per John Sundvold on WHB yesterday, he said the their Australian PG actually drags down their level of play by dribbling a lot.  I hope they play that guy a LOT, and get Pullen back into his steals groove.

Should.  Their worst 4 FT rate games defensively are their 4 losses.  And those losses were also 4 of their worst 5 OR% games defensively.  Those 2 are by far their most consistent factors offensively or defensively in their losses.

If we can get a OR% of 40+ and FT rate of 45+ we'll win this game and probably win very comfortably.

Colorado men eye another big 'W`
Boyle wants CU men to keep tempo up at No. 21 Kansas State
By Ryan Thorburn Camera Sports Writer
Posted: 01/12/2011 12:19:43 AM MST

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Will Colorado`s breakthrough win over a top-10 opponent help with recruiting down the road?

Immediately.

"It helps a great deal. We`ve already gotten feedback and calls from people throughout the country who saw that and were impressed," Boyle said of the Buffs` 89-73 upset of Missouri last Saturday. "I think what people really like is the style of play."

Alec Burks scored a career-high 36 points against the Tigers in the flow of Boyle`s motion offense. Cory Higgins added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Role players like Austin Dufault, Levi Knutson and Andre Roberson remain among the most efficient players in the country in the balanced up-tempo system.

But will beating Missouri help Boyle`s team on the Big 12 road? Yes and no.

This is the most confident, determined and team-oriented the Buffs -- who have won five consecutive games and 10 of their last 11 -- have been outside the Coors Events Center in years.

At the same time, CU will not be overlooked by anyone in the conference this season and will certainly get No. 21 Kansas State`s best shot tonight at Bramlage Coliseum (7 p.m., ESPNU).

"We`re in better shape than anybody in the Big 12. I think we can run anybody out of here," Higgins said, noting his team`s home dominance (10-0 at the Coors Events Center). "If we can just take that same mindset on the road, we`ll be all right."

Boyle does not want the Buffs, who rank sixth nationally in scoring aver-age (85.1 ppg), to change the offensive approach they have at altitude in Boulder when taking the show on the road to Manhattan or Lincoln or even Columbia.

However, there will be more moments playing in front of hostile crowds where CU`s players will have to dial the tempo down and remain poised.

"We still want to take advantage of getting as many easy baskets on the road as we do at home. You don`t have the crowd to get behind you and that`s what makes it a little tougher on the road," Boyle said. "When they make their runs the crowd kind of gives them energy. That`s where it kind of gets more dangerous.

"It doesn`t mean we want to stop running, it doesn`t mean we want to take the air out of the ball, we just want to pick and choose our spots and be really smart about it."

The Wildcats (12-4, 0-1), the preseason pick in the coaches poll to win the Big 12, opened conference play with a 76-62 loss at Oklahoma State.

"I`ve turned the page. (The players) better turn the page," K-State`s Frank Martin said on this week`s Big 12 coaches teleconference. "The last four years, I don`t think I`ve ever dwelled on what has happened yesterday for one minute."

Jacob Pullen was the conference`s preseason player of the year and seems to be getting back on that track after serving a three-game suspension for a secondary NCAA violation. The senior point guard is averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

"Not only can he shoot it off the dribble or off the catch, he can play the point and he`s a pretty tough defender, too," Knutson said. "He`s versatile. He gets it done and kind of creates all the momentum on both ends of the floor for them."

K-State is fifth nationally in rebounding margin (+10.3) and leads the Big 12 in offensive rebounds. CU, a team that usually struggles to clean the glass, out-rebounded Missouri 47-33.

"The coaches just kept drilling rebounding into our heads every day in practice and it`s finally starting to click," Higgins explained. "It`s a mindest on the defensive end that everybody needs to attack the ball when it goes up."

The Buffs are 2-4 outside of Boulder this season with a victory over Indiana on a neutral court in Las Vegas and a true road win at Cal State Bakersfield.

If CU could find a way to win its final conference road game in Manhattan, over another ranked foe the program no less, the result would garner even more attention for a program on the rise.

"I think every game in the Big 12 is a statement game," Boyle said. "Colorado has been competitive in a lot of Big 12 games throughout the last two years, and now it`s time to win some of those."

If Roberts and Asprilla foul out with ZERO points and 5 rebounds between them, ala Okie State game, we may not do so hot.

Big factor in this game, especially in the 2nd half.

CU ended up with a FT rate of 38.9 to our 36.8.  And OR% was CU 46.7 and Cats 35.1.

I knew it was highly possible CU would out shoot us, and they did.  The surprise was the TO rate we forced.  The Cats have to win the things K-State is known for in that case, especially OR% (which we were Top 5 in before the game) and we didn't do that.  Unbelievable how badly CU whipped us on the boards.

it's hard to rebound when all your bigs are having to help stop penetration.  they are then altering shots but they can't recover and rebound.  or the rotation is not there when the bigs are altering shots/stopping penetration.

FTR was sickening.  i blame the refs.

In part I suppose.  But the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half CU's average FR big just worked harder than our guys.  Its not like this defensive concept is new, we've played this way all the time under Frank and we've had games this year were we allowed much more penetration than tonight.  We just let CU outwork us for about 15 minutes in the middle of the game and this team can't do that.  That's pretty much anti-Frank basketball, but that's what this team has become.

i disagree. i don't blame any of this on lack of effort.  this guy was 10x as quick as any of our bigs not named Samuels.

You really thought we matched their effort/intensity there?

And to me its more frustrating because is these guys have shown that they CAN do it.  Against quicker guys.
