Passing a cop
« on: December 31, 2010, 01:52:15 PM »
Nothing like cruising down the highway, doing 77, when all of a sudden you get to a cluster of traffic backed up doing 66.  Why? Because there's a cop in one of the lanes and Lord knows you pass a cop who's actually going under speed limit.

Hey morons! They won't pull you over unless you're doing at least 80 because it isn't worth their time.

Amazingly true, I recieved a $30 seatbelt ticket in Leawood last month while sitting in the passenger seat. They literally had a seatbelt checkpoint at 11am......

Recieved a $5 seatbelt ticket as a driver in OP a week later.....

Living life on the edge can get a little expensive     :driving:

I use a 10% rule when passing cops and it's never failed me.   I figure out what speed they're going, add 10%, round down, & pass.    :driving:

Also, make sure to flip them off as you pass to let them know their slow driving is not appreciated.

Had a discussion with a highway patrol guy one time, over some beers.  Dude said their miles are limited now and that he doesn't bat an eye at a car that isn't going at least ten over, unless it has out of state plates.  If you do have out of state plates, he's probably going to pull you over regardless.  All they're really interested in now is drugs/drug money that passes through on I-70 like you wouldn't believe.

Can confirm this.  There is a Hiway Patrol vehicle sitting in the median at mile 342 of I 70 almost every day.  There are only 3 ways to get pulled over:  Driving over 80, being non-white, or having an out of state plate.  Pulling over the non-white drivers has given Wabaunsee County many hundreds of thousands of $$ in seized/forfeited drug money over the past decade or so.

I usually have to be in the cluster, because the idiots are driving at 68 taking up every lane.
