LBRIQ here, but I've always wondered. How is it that when you look at where some of these guys are from, it has like 4 different places?
Example:
Laimonas Chatkevicius is listed as (Klaipeda, Lithuania/South Kent [Conn.] Prep, MoKan Elite).
Wasn't Bill listed as being from Ohio and West Va too?
Is it common for these kids to go to school in say, Connecticut but play AAU ball somewhere so far away? I know nothing about AAU bball, so this may be common. I'm just Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) when it comes to bball recruiting.
Lots of these guys go to multiple high schools or prep schools.
Is there a reason for this?
There's a lot of reasons, and obviously they are dependent on the player and the situation. In today's state of the game, I think the most common is the player's "handlers" -usually through their AAU team, have ID'd what they believe is a better situation for the player and the move is made, usually to a program school with a pre-existing relationship with the handlers. A lot of times these moves are made not necessarily because of bad blood at the old school, but to gain more exposure and notoriety for the prospect.
Academics is another big reason. If a player has not qualified to play college ball or is not on track to do so, the common route is to send them to a prep school, where the player gets away from his home environment and can focus on school and is ostensibly provided with a better college preparatory setting. Prep schools are also a common route to get a player bigger and stronger before arriving on campus. Jordan Henriquez went to a prep school in MA after his SR yr of HS and I'm not sure the exact reason was ever articluated but I think it's worked out well for all parties involved.
Discipline is also another reason. Our boy Beasley, EMAW bless him, ran into trouble a few times(nothing seriously legal as far as I know), he wound up attending 6 different high schools.
Walker and Mayo are kind of their own unique story, if you're really interested in it, just google them, Dwayne Barnes, and Rodney Guillory and you'll find all sorts of crap - much better than I could tell it.
So there you go
1. Better situation
1a. More exposure, notoriety
2. Academics
3. Develop more physically
4. Discipline
