wasn't there some confusion on whether Moose might have to reclassify as a '13?  if so has there been any update on that.

I had a short visit with Coach at the barber shop today. I asked him if Upshaw is a legit 7' and he said he is over that. Then he said "He can dunk without jumping". Now process that potential. I dont know if Jason Bennett could do that (doesnt really matter), but its a short list of college guys who could do that.

 :dubious:

Who said that?

He jumps to dunk here  :dunno:

He seems to play in a league with people all a foot shorter than him, but can use both hands well and likes to dunk. Looks good to me!  :ksu:

I saw Shawn Bradley stretch during warm ups once by grabbing the rim w/ both hands while flat footed.  used the rim to stretch out his sides and stuff.

was  :surprised:

I saw Tayshaun Prince not a ball that was wedged between the backboard and rim without jumping. Loved me some TP, didn't think he'd make it in the league.

It appears Upshaw will come to K-State with a better drop step than anyone on the team.

I think the coaching staff can coach that out of him.

Was just watching a clip of Upshaw's soft hands, sweet post moves and aggressive finishes around the rim.

I'm confident that Frank and Undy will extinguish these skills in time for the Fort Hays State game next year.

however good you think upshaw is, back way off that mark.  if he were actually 7'1", 250 and ready to contribute as an average to above average big 12 starter, people would be talking about him as one and done.  no one is, therefore he's not ready.

I'm just excited that he looks like one of his strengths is finishing strong at the rim.

Granted, he's got a decided height advantage, but you know.  He at least looks like he takes it strong.

I'm hoping for ten good minutes a game next year.  I'd be thrilled with 15.

Everyone looks good finishing at the rim in high school. And they all look a lot worse finishing at the rim against Big 12 defenders.

I'm also talking about his video from the Adidas camps and AAU ball, though I agree with you overall.  It just appears that he throws his body at the rim with the ability to put the ball in the basket by dunking, which is not something our bigs seem to do as often as I'd like to see happen.

yeah. believe it or not, it's harder throw your body at the rim to dunk it against Big 12 defenders than it is against something as prestigious as the Adidas camp.

I'm not disagreeing.  I'm just saying the video inspires hope.  :dunno:

Obviously not KSU related but is it common for the NCAA to send out letters to schools like it did for the Shabazz Muhammad issue?  Seems weird.

I don't know how common it is, but I know it's not unprecedented. A lot of schools backed off Renardo Sidney and I believe that the NCAA had put the word out there that he was radioactive. Sidney had to sit out his entire FR yr and a little bit of his SO yr before finally becoming eligible.

It's tough to say if the same thing will happen to Muhammad. The rumblings for quite a while now have been that UCLA had the inside track because of the Adidas tie-in, I didn't realize it was at the level of the sugar daddy/booster saga as outlined in the latest reports, but it sorta makes more sense now.

It'll be interesting to see what does happen if he ends up at UCLA. Will the NCAA drop the hammer on a "blueblood, will it turn out to be a Selby type suspension or a Sidney type suspension, or will it be nothing at all?

i think the ncaa is trying to be more proactive in these cases than they have in the past.  that way, when players like mcmlemore get to KU, and the ncaa sits them, the ncaa doesn't look like the bad guy for sitting a kid because of past improprieties, as they've put the schools on notice that there may be an issue.  i like the move by the ncaa.  they're in a no-win situation and this is a great way to help deal with it.

i don't see any of the latest Muhammad developments as a big deal, tbh.  it was his father who informed the ncaa about who paid for the trips. i think there is enough history between muhammad's family and the two men whom have been reported made financial benefits to muhammad.  unless more comes out i really doubt much will come of the situation.  but, at least the ncaa's ass is covered in case they do find more.

i also don't believe the adidas connection.

there are a lot of adidas schools, what interest do they have in steering him to ucla?

Perhaps Adidas views UCLA as a "flagship" program that they're trying to get back in the spotlight? Kavanagh, the booster in question, is a SoCal guy so maybe there's a connection there.

I really can't claim to have any insider knowledge here, all I can say is after spending a lot of constructive time perusing the national recruiting boards throughout the past several years and inevitably coming across the Muhammad topic, the most recurring theme, other than UNLV fans are complete dumbasses, was/is has been the UCLA/Adidas deal.

Could be complete BS I guess, but a lot of folks, including Meyer, have had a pretty big hand in perpetuating that BS for a long time now.

all of that is speculation though.  until i see something credible, i just don't believe it.

i think about the fact that kavanagh is a socal guy but the other dude in question is a north carolina guy.  ucla is the only school recruiting him that is an adidas school.  does adidas really have that much to gain by steering him to ucla for a 1 and done season?  what didn't they learn from the OJ Mayo situation at SC?

i don't know, it just seems like a lot of conspiracy theories to me.

maybe it's just me ignoring the truth because i really hope we get to watch this kid play at the collegiate level.
