Caught up with Rivals150 wing DeVon Walker. He visited Alabama officially over the weekend. UF, K-State, Clemson also involved

Rivals No. 149

Would take.

I guess I'm confused how he is only rated 149/150. Looks pretty damn good.

Bossi said we are a very strong candidate for a visit after high school ball, I bet Figgs is watching him sometime these week.

Add him in with Upshaw and Moose, and it looks like a really good class.

He has a 91 rating on ESPN.

That's really not as good as it sounds. That means they think he is a strong mid-major recruit.

ESPN rating system doesn't make logical sense, look at past class 91 to compare too.

You have to use their grading scale.

Walker's AAU team is Nike Team Florida, same as Freeman  :crossfingers:

And FWIW, Bossi mentioned last summer(update linked below) that Walker was a prospect capable of making a jump in the rankings due to his athleticism and length. I've also read that's he's a really bright kid, great student.

Won't there be on final re-ranking in the Summer?

Yeah, there is usually a "final" ranking done later in the summer, but both Bossi and Meyer have said that the next update will be done after the prominent HS all star games have been played, they're usually done in mid-April, so I'd look for the next update in late April, maybe early May.

Since this is the outgoing class of HS SRs, the vast majority of them won't playing AAU ball, so this next update in the Spring, for most intents and purposes, will be the final rankings.

More Moose

National Prep Invitational 2/3/12
"Laimonas Chatkevicius (South Kent Prep 2012) – committed to Kansas State – Chatkevicius is every bit of 7 feet tall with wide shoulders and a strong frame. He’s very physical inside but also can step away from the basket and showed a soft touch. While he seemed to take the nasty streak a little too far at times coming very close to a technical, Frank Martin doesn’t usually mind overly physical play. Chatkevicius seems like a perfect fit in Manhattan and projects as a rotation big for the Wildcats."

well if Moose can shoot it from behind the arc as they say AND he is willing to defend and rebound inside then he'll be able to draw opposing bigs away from the bucket when he's in.

(yes, I read the basketball boards frequently....more of a long time listener first time caller sort of thingy)
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

They said the same thing about Diaz. I doubt Moose taking shots outside the 3pt line becomes part of our offense.

Next year, someone will have to take the 1-2 threes a game JamSam normally shoots.

I never once read that about Diaz....not once.   While Frank is big on offensive rebounding he's also big on easy buckets and if the kid is reliable from behind the arc I can't see him not taking advantage of it.  If you draw a big from the lane you take away the defender who can protect the rim and you also take a big away from rebounding the ball.  I'm not sure there is a coach in America who would refuse to let a 7-footer take that shot if they can hit them with regularity.

I remember hearing that JO had a decent outside shot but I don't recall reading that about Diaz.

Nope, denied. Moose sucks (sorry this is a catzacker) statement. He better get coached up and god I'd love Walker 2.0.

He's a euro big.  He will take time to develop (if he doesn't get frank'd first), but he has a skill set.

I had a short visit with Coach at the barber shop today. I asked him if Upshaw is a legit 7' and he said he is over that. Then he said "He can dunk without jumping". Now process that potential. I dont know if Jason Bennett could do that (doesnt really matter), but its a short list of college guys who could do that.
