Zona :surprised:

Who knew a collection of dudes named Kaleb, Grant, Brandon, and Gabe could be so good at basketball?

Not a good class, cali recruits suck

Brandon Jennings, Jordan Farmar, Aaron Alflalo, Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Williams

And dude, Upshaw?

Fair enough, but has had over their fair share of miss,  Wear twins, Renardo Sidney,  and several other that I believe were over projected like Solomon Hill and Tyler Honeycutt. I believe there is a unfair bias with cali recruits. Part of the pac 12 decline.

Hey, Russell Westbrook and James Harden ain't bad either.

I know Sidney spent his last couple years of HS in LA, but he's actually an MS kid originally, how the heck do you think he wound up at Miss St?

Hill is having a solid if not spectaular season for 'Zona(12 pts, 8 rebs, 3 asts), FR Josiah Turner could probably be seen as a mild disappointment at this stage in his career.

I know he's hardly a household name, but Jared Cunningham(Oakland) has been balling pretty hard for Oregon St.

They've certainly had their share of busts, as has basically any other region you want to look at, I'm not willing to write off one particular recruit just because where he is from though.

Fair enough, just thought some kids rankings get juiced a bit just from being from cali, not saying cali doesn't produced alot of talent :dunno:, but that might be true for all basketball talent rich areas.

There MIGHT be a bias leaning toward larger metro areas, but I think the AAU circuit does a good job of bringing that national talent together, allowing for head to head matchups for players from different regions, and that is where/how the majority of rankings are complied.

FWIW, Sidney was seen as a Top 5, 5* prospect prior to moving to LA.

8/24/06:
"Cousins was followed by Jacksonville (Miss.) Piney Woods power forward Renardo Sidney, who gave Cousins competition for the No. 1 slot in the rankings.

"It was a two-horse race for No. 1 between DeMarcus Cousins and Renardo Sidney," Rivals.com national basketball recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer said. "They're both skilled power forwards. They're that same type of player."

The 6-foot-9, 234-pound Cousins' strength, athleticism and size put him into the discussion for the No. 1 spot, but his explosiveness and ability to play in transition separated him from the pack.

"He's an inside and outside scoring threat," Meyer said. "What stands out about him is how good he is in transition. He can do things going full speed to the rim."

Sidney also stood out as a power forward who can excel as a passer. During the AAU season, he was able to get the ball to center Kevin Love, the No. 7 prospect in the class of 2008, on a regular basis.

"You can run the offense through Sidney," Meyer said. "He's similar to Cousins, but with Cousins there's a little more athleticism. Renardo isn't quite as explosive, but he's a skilled player. When he was teamed up with Kevin Love, he did a great job of feeding Love the ball down low."

Franking season will be here before we know it.

2/5 update:
"I just got an offer from Rhode Island and Florida Atlantic," (Devonte) Thornton revealed. "South Carolina is recruiting me, but still hasn't offered. Kansas, Kansas State, UAB, and Old Dominion are recruiting me too. I also got an offer from Cal-State Northridge a while ago."

It would appear that he has absolutely no outside range. And that he needs a tighter jersey.

Yeah, that vid did very little to showcase any offensive game he might have outside of 4 ft.

I’m fine with Omari and Watson getting frank’d.  We need a PG in this class badly.  Unfortunately, we’ve decided that the class we’re going to strike out on PG’s is next year.

I guess it would make sense to swap Watson with Moose and Omari with some other guy.

Look, I don't care what Frank does as long as he stops taking JUCO guys because that's who always gets Franked and who we're always replacing with subpar guys in the Spring/Summer.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Moose and Sadler both appear in CT prep rankings - Moose 3, Sadler 19. Moose shows up at 18 in overall NE rankings. I don't remember if it was posted or not, but ESPN tabbed Moose as an 89, solid 3*(cheapskates like me still can't read the scouting report).

ESPN Analyst
Updated 11/14/2011

Strengths:
Chatkevicius is a highly skilled seven-footer with a soft shooting stroke all the way out to 22 feet. He is a consistent three-point threat both when trailing the break as well as when playing pick and pop. He also does a great job of running to the rim when rolling off of ball screens and his versatility is a major asset in that action. Chatkevicius has an equally soft touch with his jump hook around the rim to compliment good hands and feet in his post game. He has a good understanding of the game for a post player and is also a good passer.

Weaknesses:
Chatkevicius has some athletic limitations. He doesn't leap especially quick or high around the rim and consequently isn't much of a shot-blocker nor a very dominant finisher. He also needs to improve his conditioning as he can fatigue quickly at the moment and struggle to keep up with the pace of the game at times. As a low post player, he can turn either shoulder but will typically only score with his right hand. He would also do well to become a more aggressive rebounder, especially outside of his immediate area.

Bottom Line:
He's reminiscent of former West Virginia big man Kevin Pittsnogle in that he's a highly skilled seven-footer who compensates for his lack of explosiveness and athleticism with his highly developed skill set and three-point shooting range
