I think Ellis is a safer bet than Judge was/is. Judge is clearly the superior run & jump athlete* but Ellis can consistently knock down the mid-range jump shot and score against smaller and similar sized players in the post. IMO, Judge's lack of ability to do anything consistently led to his downfall at KSU.

MIR, Maybe I misintrepeted FFY's post but I thought the general theme of it was that Ellis is not 1 and done talent or maybe more relevantly, not an immediate dominant force in college. I agree with that sentiment. No question he is an immense talent and KSU would take him in a heartbeat and I believe he has the potential to be a great college player in 3 maybe even 2 years. However, anybody that thinks he's going to be 20 and 10 in his FR yr is blowing his abilities out of proportion.

Yes, Kentucky has offered him and clearly wants him and that is absolutely a testament to his elite ability. However, if he was perceived as being ultra-elite nationally Duke would still have their hat in the ring here. They wouldn't have taken the wait and see approach with him(which Ellis understandably balked at) so that they can see what happens with the likes of Mitch McGary and Alex Poythress. That doesn't mean that Duke is the absolute barometer as to how talent is measured. It also doesn't mean that Ellis won't have a better collegiate or even pro career than McGary or Poythress, it just means that the evaluation is out there that Ellis is elite but not upper-crust elite on the national hoops scene. Kentucky can alos afford to be a little more liberal with their scollys as they could have as many as 7 open up for the Class of '12.

*Yet still amazingly awkward in traffic and amongst contact
Yah I was not meanining that Perry sucks or that the competition he faces is terrible(I would argue thatit average to below average compared to most Top 100 kids) I was just trying ti say he isn't a step on campus and dominate type of kid. He has a good skillset to work with but because he is not an elite level athlete he will have to work on certain aspects of his game like ball handling and his outside shooting in order to realize his potential.

Sounds like Chatkevicius'(From now on, I'm just going with Moose) South Kent team is really loaded, would be great to get some elaboration on the "headed to K St" comment.

Dorsey-Walker, 1 time sorta KSU recruit 6'4" SG from Detroit commits to Iowa St. He was 122 in Rivals rankings, Hoiberg and Clones really putting together a nice class.

i'm very happy with mir's post defending ks hs bball & lolling @ the dumbass kansans that hate it.  also happy with the random "yes, you are right, moose to kstate." comment.

randoms - judge was exclusively a one-footed jumper, and clumsy.  not a good athlete.  and i think i remember something about the new isu guy have some qualification issues.  not sure i'm recalling accurately though.  anyways, good job, thread.

Never said I hated KS hs bball, never would say that.

All I was trying to say is that I don't think his dominance there is going to directly and immediately translate into college ball. That's it.

judge is a great athlete, just a terrible basketball player.

To be an athlete you need balance.... Judge did not have balance... and he had a terrible second jump. All he had going for him was he was strong and could jump off one foot.

Ok, but here's the deal- you're a complete idiot if you think Judge wasn't athletic.

Quote
Fonda Ellis took some time to break down each of the four choices.

Kansas and Kentucky are in the mix because of their tradition.

“They both have it,” she said. “From the history to the winning to the fans to the coaches.”

Ellis likes the desire that Kansas State players have.

“Coach [Frank] Martin has his players playing with heart,” she said.

As for the hometown school, Ellis thinks Gregg Marshall has put Wichita State on par with bigger and more traditional basketball schools.

“Under Gregg Marshall, he has done an awesome job rebuilding the program to the next level,” Fonda Ellis said.

Sounds decent for us.   :dunno:

What time is the announcement?  I'll feel least bad by a UK commit, I really don't want to have to listen to WSU fans and I don't want to have to face him 2+ times a year for the next 3 or 4 yrs.

Yep, would rather see him go anywhere than KU.  But it still looks like KU has the best odds here.

Local non-Perry Ellis stuff:

- 5'8" PG Benny Parker(KC Sumner and 76ers) commits to Nebraska

- 5'10" PG Daylen Robinson, who went to Northeast HS in KCMO and now goes to Moberly JC, commits to TX Tech. Robinson won 2010 KC HS POY over likes of Spradling and Releford.

- 6'2" SG Joe Mitchell, who went to Wichita SE and Hutch JC, is walking on at Wichita St. He signed with Ohio but I guess that didn't work out as he is back in Wichita now and in school there.
