You've got to remember bros, when you're dealing with a legit 6'11" kid who can really move like Cauley, his offense doesn't HAVE to be there right now in order for him to be valuable. His size and athleticism already make him a major disruptive force defensively and that is an attribute that ANY high level team in the country would want, even if he never really develops offensively. Cauley has shown signs of offensive improvement but I think the thing to focus on here is not that "it's not a strength of his right now", it should be "he's not totally inept" and still has time to improve:

"Willie Cauley (Spearville, Kan./Olathe Northwest)
6-11, 210 pounds
Cauley is raw offensively but that is not where his bread is buttered at this point. He is a very long and thin, and is super shot-blocker who can change the game on the defensive end. He needs to add weight and strength, which should come as his body continues to mature but Cauley has a great upside and is not totally inept on the offensive end. He can face to 12 feet and is developing a solid jump hook."

The apparent push by Kentucky concerns me too, really tough to say if the recent Upshaw development is directly related, it's just that the timing of it all makes it seem like more than coincidence.

i wouldn't think that cauley and upshaw are related.  just assume that our lazy, lazy beat writers let us down again.

Watched the Caulie video at the end. Kinda wondering how the kid is ranked so high.

After watching the video I learned 2 whole things:

1.  Cauley can dunk

2.  Cauley can block the shots of players a foot shorter than he is.

Robert Upshaw cut his list to 9 schools: Arizona, Fresno St, Gtown, Kansas St, Louisville, Maryland, OK St, UNLV & USC

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/96162/robert-upshaw

Quote
"Coach Lamont is recruiting me, but Coach Martin is involved, too," Upshaw said. "(Martin) just told me he likes the way I play and wants me to be a part of his program. "The nine schools are just the ones that have what I want -- basketball and school. With K-State, I just checked into the program and saw they've had a great program in the past. That's important. I've also heard good things about the communications department from people I talked to.
K-State has scheduled an in-home visit with the four-star prospect, a meeting Upshaw says will take place in mid September as part of a run of face-to-face talks with coaches from each of his final nine schools. "

Good find, Dub-Dub.

Stunted said a while back that we should use this as a nickname for one of our players, but I think it works a lot better with your name.

A big kick in the taint for the people who say recruits don't look at a program's past successes.

i really like Upshaw's penchant for research.  this fits in nicely with NBAF and shulz's Top 50 campaign.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

Research skills are admirable, but apparently more nastiness would help out:

"The challenge for center Robert Upshaw (Fresno, Calif./San Joaquin Memorial) is to attack his senior season and go from prospect to player. Upshaw is the No. 50 prospect in the senior class but frankly; he's got way more upside. For Upshaw, it's a mindset. He's yet to be a leading man in terms of scoring (he didn't play his junior season due to transfer) but yet is the biggest man on the floor every time he steps onto the court. He is a nice guy, but if he hits the nasty button, look out."

Cauley claiming an offer from Kentucky, has in home visits set with KSU on Sep 9 and Alabama Sep 10:

"The nation's No. 9 center in the 2012 class and the No. 41 senior overall, Cauley said he has a scholarship offer from UK - his newest offer - that would allow him to commit to UK right now if he wanted to, and he said and that he spoke on the phone with Calipari just after the July evaluation period."

Cauley to be one and done at UK?  LOL.  I guess if he absolutely blows up this year he may get that chance, but from what I have seen, he'll be lucky to get minutes at UK.  I won't be dissapointed if he doesn't choose us....assuming we get Ellis or Upshaw.   :dubious:

OT: UNLV is putting together a really nice class.

This dude wears #0 for Proviso East:

"Carter is continuing to be popular with college programs.  “Right now the recruiting process is going well. I’ve got interest from Toledo, St. Louis, Kansas State, DePaul, and Indiana State,” said Carter, who also noted, “As of right now I don’t know when I’m going to make a decision, but me and my father have been talking about everything.”

Carter previously reported offers from Loyola, N. Ill., Toledo, Creighton, and Indiana St. FWIW, coach at PE now is former Colorado and NBA player Donnie Boyce.

was that one of those offers to make the team/coach look good for future considerations type of deal?  seems like a good idea.

K-State didn't offer did they?  I think they just listed receiving interest from K-State.
