I would give my left nut and my right pinky and part of my nose for Marcus Smart to be a Sooner.

Does this guy merit a legit offer by himself or is this a thinly veiled attempt to lure marcus with a teammate?

apparently he is a hell of a shooter...shot 50% from 3 as a junior.

So yes, Frank wants nothing to do with him probably.

Forte had 20 in the TX Assault's title game win at the Adidas 64. I only got to see the 2nd half, he knocked down a couple of deep treys but also had a couple tough drives and finishes within 5 ft of the rim. He's a sub 6 fter but very solid and tough player. Do we offer him without the close connection to Smart? Dunno, I guess you play every angle you can in the recruiting game, couple other descriptions below:

"Phil Forte   5'11" 180 - (2012 - Texas Assault) - We loved Forte's demeanor withstanding spirited opposing crowd harassment and physical opposing ball pressure to consistently bring the ball up the floor and make the right decision. Once he ignited the offense Forte instantly became a scoring threat hitting five three pointers and scoring a game high 19 points against DFW."

"Phil Forte, PG, Texas Assault – A very strong point guard, Forte had some good things going for him. Not a great athlete or super quick, Forte displayed an excellent ability to knock down shots, and then also made a few nice passes. There is no doubting his toughness, and while he has his limitations, Forte was very productive."

i like smart as much as the next person (unless the next person is soonerhoopsfan or anyone else), but i'm not convinced he's a star in the big 12, and definitely not convinced he's worth offering a 'ship to his 5'10" bff.

I believe half the reason Forte is even good is because he plays with Smart.  Saw him play a whole game without Smart and he struggled mightily.  The team started trapping him in the backcourt and he was mumped.  He's not a true point either, Smart is closer to being a point that Forte.

i mean you've seen him a ton, and i've only seen him play one game plus vids, but i completely agree.  he's a shooter and that's it.  does not have big 12 handles.  and that's a 5'10" guy with no handle, not a 6'5" wing.

Supposdley he just played amazing out in Vegas this week, but I dont know.  I just dont see him ever as a Big 12 caliber point guard.  He just looks more natural off the ball as a gunner and well he's 5 rough ridin' 10....

I feel like we're not going to get any of the cool kids, but have a chance at the cool kid's friends like the kid that's not a true point that gets mumped when trapped.

yeah.  weird that he's sitting these games out.  isn't his whole selling point supposed to be that he's ubercompetitive?

Does he really need to sell anything anymore?

He seems to pick up a lot of little injuries, I bet he's nursing something after the Vegas run.  Last summe he had a bad wrist and groin injury if I remember right.  Early this spring he had turf toe.
