Will we get Smart?

I'm not betting on it. '12 version of Quinn Cook? Obviously not playing style wise, but his recruitment, ID early, offer early, he gives us the obligatory mentions for a while until we sorta fade away.

All we can do is  :users: and ride it out.

don't agree.  not saying kstate will get smart, but there is a legitimate chance.  there was never any chance that they'd get cook.

imo, getting at least one of smart, graham, ellis or cauley (or a yet to mention of equivalent quality) is the minimum for 2012 to be called a success.  really no excuse not to get a top 50ish and a top 100 (assuming 2 man class).

28. LJ Rose 6'3" Houston (Second Baptist HS) - Houston Hoops
As you can see, Rose and Hornbeak are a couple of highly ranked prospects out of TX who KSU has been mentioned in connection with in the past(along with many other schools) but I'm not certain at this point if the mutual interest is there or how vigorously our staff is pursuing either of them.

when was kstate linked with rose?  i either missed that or have forgotten it.

i'm not sure kstate would have a real chance at a decent houston hoops player.

As dutifully reported on P.10 of this very thread, courtesy of Northstar. ksf42 wasn't convinced we had much of a shot at him.

Smart is a total win-win.

Either we get the toughest and one of the best players in the class who is inarguably a complete "fit" for the program.

Or there is actually proof this staff has somehow lost a step at recruiting and the "trust Frank, he knows his players" vs "get best players possible or you're not doing a good job" debate is put to rest. That outcome is actually mostly a lose.

can we start a thread for players that we have a legit shot at rather than a thread about random bball players that we'd like to get.

no one knows who they are. and they wouldn't choose to talk about them if they did.

cauley update.

Quote
He's obviously extremely talented," Suther told Rivals.com. "He's big, strong and has a knack for blocking shots. He has to improve offensively but it's coming along."

In fact, Cauley was showing quite a bit of promise on the offensive end by summer's end. He gets to the rim quickly, has pretty good feet and is becoming comfortable with short jump hooks.

"If you put him through individual skill stuff he does well," said Suther. "We've got him in the gym every day working on his offense and he looks good. He just doesn't have the confidence to do it in a game situation yet."

Already the recipient of plenty of attention from programs like Kansas State, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Georgia and others headed into the summer, Cauley's recruitment has officially exploded.

"It's been totally crazy with calls lately, we've kind of had to shut it down a bit," said Suther. "I've heard from places like Florida, Ohio State, Kansas, Wake Forest, Clemson, Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan State. I can't even name them all."

Torian Graham, brother of Rutgers guard Tyree Graham, will remain at Durham (NC) Hillside rather than attending Oak Hill.

Would missing Cauley be the staff's biggest whiff in history?  :dunno:

My first thought was:  "how many freaking Randles are there, and will we ever get one?"  Looks to be a different family though.
