tip of the iceberg my friend.  just make sure you hit the minimum spend to the get the bonus.  that's what it's all about after all.

also (and I'm sure you're smart enough to have figured this out) the first thing you need to do when you get your card (as with every single card you get for the rest of your life) is go online and set up autopay to have the full balance paid on the due date every month.  I sit down at my computer and do it while I'm on the phone activating the card so I don't have to think about it.

I really mumped this up. I thought you only had to earn the miles in a 12 month period and not a calendar year.

I just got an offer in the mail for a southwest rapid rewards visa signature with a 50,000 bonus for a 2k spend over 3 months. Is this a good starting point for a future credit card wizard?

it has a 99$ annual fee, is that immediate or at the start of next year? doesn't say it's waived anywhere.

it says 50,000 pts is over 800$ in fare

That's how I did it and I got them beginning of March....the $99 is immediate and they won't waive it.  Get the business card too if they are still offering 50k points for that one as well....get you 95% of the way there after putting $4k between the two.

Get it for the current year and the entire next calendar year.  Best situation is to get the 50k offer at the end of a year but don't hit the spend of $2,000 on the card until the beginning of the next year...and get the companion pass for like 22 months.

Best thing that ever happened to me was the BA 100k card/bonus.

Up to 4 RT flights from KC-DFW for my family to come visit for the Cotton Bowl. 3 RT flights from DFW-MHK for the KSU-OSU football game. 1 RT from DFW-ATL and a one-way from DFW to OMA for the CWS this year. Might have to buy SD a drink while I'm there. Oh, still have 22k Avios points left.

On another note.... Still looking for my next card. SD - how long between AA churns to rack up those 450k AA points?

You used to be able to churn the crap out of the AA cards but now they cut it down to like 18 months between churn for the personal cards. The biz can still be churned more often. Between mrs. dave and I we have gotten well over a million AA miles in the last 5 or so years from them. they used to be 75k per card as well (and 100k for a short while). So, like, we were churning two AA cards (4 including mrs. daves) at 75k each every 3 or 4 months. it was truly the golden age of the points game.

Yeah pretty much anything that isn't using credit to pay for credit will work.
