Amex has a new 35% transfer bonus to BA. Not as good as their previous 50% offer but still pretty nice. Could be a good time to unload your 50k gold bonuses. 50k = 67.5k Avios

Random contribution to the thread, the idea that you can't apply/have a bunch of credits cards and get a (large) home loan is an absolute myth.

it's a myth that (most) won't get approved for a mortgage, but you do run the risk of higher rates.

Finally stopped being butthurt and sucked it up. Got a shitty Capital One card with a terrible limit and even more laughable APR. No big deal I guess... gotta start somewhere.

I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

If you worry about APR you probably aren't ready for a credit card.

mrs. dave and I just churned the AA Visa again. after we hit the spend we will be sitting on about 450k AA miles combined. getting close to a couple 1st class around the world one world tickets. already have enough for two tickets in 1st up to 20k miles on one world (up to 50k miles in biz) with 90k AA miles to spare. I'm not going to use them for this but it's fun to see what I could do with them.

you want to use it as much as you can.  charge normal things like bills to it to start off, like have your cable and electric automatically charge it, then pay it off in full each month.  that will keep you from overspending since it's your first one, but it will help build your credit very quickly.  you want to use it and pay it in full regularly, that's the most important thing.

I haven't canceled any of my previous cards.  I extended the BA card a year or two with no annual fee so I had a zero foreign transactions card when I needed it.  I can probably find another one with that.  So tonight JWWife and I are cancelling BA, US Air, United, and two AA's.  Unless there is a reason not to do this.  I've also been spending past my bonus amount on a SW card.  Need a few new ones and then I can cancel that one also.

Received an email out of the blue from BoA that they are cancelling e-billing and will paper bill for a card I cancelled almost 10 years ago.

Apparently they didn't cancel it. Doesn't matter though?

Probably close to a year.  Starting to think cash might be the way to go.  Really up for whatever is the better deal though.

there is a business aa that you could sign up for that would get you 50k with 2.5k spend in four months. then wait two days and sign up for a personal aa mastercard that gets you another 30k. it's a different product that the two 50k personal aa's that you got before so you can still get this even though it's only been a year. then there is a new barclays card that will give you something like $400 after 1k in spend. so three cards with 4.5k spend four months and you'd get 80k aa and $400. you both do it and 160k aa and $800. combine that with one of the chase hotel cards that you only have to use once or whatever and you could have a nice trip. there's prob better advice out there though and honestly you should prob just do whatever sd says.

no, this is probably the best advice

Depending on the age of the card and the number of other cards you have, may be best to leave it open to help with the average credit age.

Probably doesn't matter much either way though.

does it hurt you to apply for cards for the hell of it?

like, i just applied for a chase sapphire preferred kind of just for fun and they said they need more time to review my application.

not really. maybe a point or two for a short time. call chase right now at 1-888-245-0625 and ask them what their problem is. usually that's all it takes to get approved.
