I know. I was stuck and didn't know what else to do. Marriott wouldn't just let me pay the difference. Did I have any other option other than just paying for the whole stay? I'm pretty terrible at this overall and normally do stupid things with my points. Its better than paying real money I guess.

ah, so booking from chase as opposed to Marriott? Didn't think of that. I prob get some platinum benefits from booking through marriott but maybe they would have carried over anyway. oh wells.

i'm taking the united devaluation pretty hard.  chase and united hit my sweet spot for a good long time.

My URs just became Hyatt points long ago. By far the best redemptions I could ever get. Especially travelling with kids where we need multi room suites. If Hyatt ever devalues I'm just going to turn into a "pay with points" traveller. imagine living that laissez faire lifestyle. wow, I'm actually looking forward to it.

I've accepted this. Sometimes I transfer to SW which is about the same as buying with points

Hey stevedave - When you book those multi room suites, are you booking through Hyatt?  I don’t usually see anything but standard rooms for points, but I’m not regularly looking at resort-type properties.

the main reason I don't go to Hyatt is I have largely switched to Airbnb or vrbo w/ kids. There's pros and cons but mostly pros outside of not being able to pay with points

Yep. They will have suites at most resorts. We generally book our family trips 10 months or so out so availability is usually there.

I do both but after leaning towards airbnb for a bit we’ve started pivoting back to resorts. All the ridiculous cleaning, trash, etc. rules started to piss me off. I’m not spending any time of my vacation sweeping your floor and taking your rough ridin' trash bins to the curb on tuesdays.

i've heard there's a place you can book airbnb (airbnb type places houses/condos/etc) with marriott points, some app but i forgot the name (someone told me about, i've never done).  anyone know?

I've been doing Delta SkyMiles for a while because I only fly twice-ish a year, and I'm only concerned about lodging once a year. But since I can't sign up for anymore Delta sign up bonuses, I'm probably gonna sign up for Cap One. Seems like that's the best card for traveling/lodging at the rate I do. Do you guys confirm? And if so, do one of you guys have a link I should use to sign up for the Cap One card?

God damnit you guys. I can't tell you how much I hate trying to book travel. Mostly because the flight options from KC are just abysmal. Trying to get to the bahamas to watch Cat hoops and its just a nightmare. I have the SW companion pass but that will just get me to FL and even then, maybe not in time to catch a shitty flight to the island the same day. The other options are pay a crap ton of money and still fly a million miles and hours zig zagging all over and finally get there. It really sucks being in KC for travel.

What is the best reward option for flights? SW is prob a no go which would be by far the best for me. Is there a good transfer option from Chase URs to an airline? I really only stock pile URs and SW points. I'm discovering that I'm pretty screwed it SW doesn't go where I want them to.
