I called into chase cust service to see about getting the CSR, didn't know if I hit the 5/24, and the guy there didn't seem to even know anything about 5/24, and was like just apply you should be good, but i'm not sure if I am good or not.  fml

no it's just a credit inquiry regardless of the outcome, and credit inquiries are not that important to your credit score

My credit score went down by 4 points within about 20 minutes after a credit inquiry.

if my credit went down 4 points every time I had a credit inquiry my credit would be -800

like i said not that important. your credit score will go up by more than 4 points when you open a new CC, due to the new available credit you would have, which is a much bigger factor.

it's more than offset by the gain in available credit you get when you open a new card

Oh it's back up now (actually 1-2 points higher than before, depending on which reporting agency you look at)

my current available credit could send me on a fear and loathing'esque bender for a solid year. like if narcos kill my entire family and all my friends that's what I'm doing. It's better than insurance.

i had a period 3-4 years ago where i had too many credit pulls in too short of time and my score did go down enough to make a difference (50-75 points or so).  but i was really aggressive for a bit there and it faded away after a few months.

well it took 3 weeks to get my fraud disputed off my credit report, but got approved for the CSR last night.   

Sucks tho, probably have to buy some travel gift cards to max my travel spend.

So we now have a crapton of URs in our account.  Is it best to use them directly from the UR portal or transfer them to partner accounts (i.e. SW, Hyatt, etc.) and book from there?  My hunch is that it depends on the situation and how many points you already have in the partner accounts.  Is this correct?

usually partner. hyatt, united, ba being your best value in most cases. can get 2+ cpm in most cases. sw is a great value if you have a companion pass. if you have the CSReserve the booking directly from the UR portal becomes a better option at 1.5 cpm.

I need an interpretation on Delta Amex terms.  I have the gold card.  Received an offer to upgrade to platinum for 15k miles after 1k spend.  So I checked current offer for new platinum card is 60k plus 10k MQM after 2k spend, much better offer.  However bonus for new card is "not available to applicants who have or have had this product".  Does my gold card disqualify me for the bonus on a new platinum?

no, but make sure you're aware of the annual fee on the plat

The fee is only $100 more than I'm already paying on the gold, so annual companion certificate will cover that.

how long have you had the plat card?

almost a year. i was about to cancel before the $195

You should get it after paying the fee.

Just applied and got approved for an AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card. Excited to start using it for gas and groceries. Should be able to save at least $650 or so a year with it.

Dumb question time though: Re: the cash back at gas stations; are the gas stations at Dillons', HyVees, etc considered gas stations, or grocery stores? I'm assuming they are gas stations, but what in the hell do I know?

have three spg and marriott accounts you can use. wife, kid, yours, friends, etc. doesn't matter who as long as they let you move points through it.

buy the max amount of SPG at 50% bonus for all three accounts. this will cost a total of $1,595.

transfer all those points to the applicable marriott account.

move the other two marriott account points to your own marriott account. marriott allows this.

use 270,000 Marriott points for Hotel + Air Package 3 (7-nights at a category 1-5 Marriott + 120,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points)

even if you don't use the 7 hotel nights it pays off. you'll have the companion pass and 120k SW miles (120k SW miles can be redeemed for about $1,800 in travel plus you'll have the companion to add to all of that travel plus whatever other times you fly SW plus you'll have those 7 nights of hotel if you can use them plus you'll get points for that $1,500 in spend at the beginning).
