I got 8 cards in a 7 month span in 2015

i got a bunch of docs notarized at a chase branch (free). it took the notary employee like an hour and was a huge pain in the ass for her and prolly saved me about $100 or so. i only have cc accounts, and only shitty no fee ones at that.

so anytime someone wants to talk to you about barclays or citi customer service and act like it's not complete crap, keep in mind that they're wrong.

First National Bank does that too. but their credit card sucks complete crap so eff'em. but the checking is free and interest bearing and reimburses my ATM fees so back to good on them.

The girl in branch was awesome and went to bat for me all the way to customer retention and got super pissed at them

She was like "this is stupid, you're the target person this card is intended for"

So is the Amex platinum comparable or what? I kinda just want one of these high end cards now

Amex plat has better benefits overall. Status with multiple hotels, better lounge access (PP but also Delta and Centurion), better hotel booking program. Worse points earning and points are less valuable. When the 100k sign up rolls around again pounce on it. The 100k won't be worth the same as 100k UR but they are pretty valuable and versatile.

Think I may cancel some chase cards and just get that then in a year or so switch back to the reserve

I have very much enjoyed my 100k Amex Platinum. In addition to the benefits SD mentioned (Centurion, two free water bottles at a Hilton

), I've saved quite a bit of money on Amex Offers stuff I would have purchased anyway. Perhaps my fave thing about it is that since the 'Meals fly SW almost exclusively, all SW fees and booze and junk get reimbursed, meaning my two companion passes actually cost nothing.

I also find I share a special bond with other Amex Platinum holders I meet. There's an unspoken "see you in the Centurion" vibe 24/7/365.

centurion lounges are def. BITB stateside. our pud domestic carriers will never have a Wing or Lufty terminal but the centurions are pretty

The bonus is apparently only 40k right now unless I read FT wrong. Will prob wait it out to see if they do a higher sign up bonus to compete with the CSR.

I did not get a cool box with my CSR! And apparently you don't have to call and activate the card. So it's a good thing my apt neighbors did not steal it while it was sitting outside my front door all weekend.

I wouldn't be eligible until next summer, but I'd planned to get at least a couple alaska cards in the meantime.
