If you are rich and have kids (that you are taking with you) then you should use your free Hyatt nights at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek. If you don't meet those criteria then you may want to reconsider.

list reasons why

#1 There were a TON of kids there.
#2 A lot of the kids were rich, bratty kids.
#3 There were several babies crying at all hours of the day that could be heard from our room.
#4 "Free" nights aren't really free as you still have to pay a $50/night valet fee (which is still not bad, but just FYI if you really thought it was going to be free LOL)
#5 The hotel is very kid friendly with kid activities and stuff
#6 Beaver Creek village in general is pro-kid with lots of kid activities, a daycare, etc. (Thank God we didn't go next weekend when they have a Kid-fest for Pres Day)
#7 There are a ton of kids skiing on the mountain and getting in your way and stuff.
#8 Most of the eating options are pretty expensive.
#9 The mini-fridge is laughably small, so don't think you are going to be able to store anything in there except 2 bottles of water.
#10 No microwave so don't think you are going to be able to reheat that leftover pizza at 1am.
#11 The skiiing was good but no better than other places with lift ticket prices which are 50-80% of the price.

Sounds miserable.  Just booked at Grand Hyatt Kauai.  No way would I take my kids on this trip.

GH Kauai would be great with kids imo

My wife broke her leg on our first full day there skiing so I didn't see much besides the hospital, but it is a truly amazing country.  We were in Lucerne and it's drop dead gorgeous. In May you'll be able to hit the gondolas to some of the mountain summits. Definitely ride trains through the mountains. What we saw of Zurich was real cool too but we were only there a day. Get the rick Steves guidebook and he has a ton of crap to do. The skiing is amazing right up until your wife breaks her leg.

Great healthcare system tho!

I mean I have no kids but if I did I would take them to the GH Kauai without thinking twice about it.  They have a daycare and an incredible pool complex.  Kids don't require a whole lot more than that in my (limited) experience.

I'm sure it's a great place for kids and my kids would probably love it.  But mine are young enough that they would have just as much fun somewhere cheaper/easier to get to and I've got a MIL offering to take them for a week.

all three times we've stayed there I've thought it would be perfect for kids. and the kids there seemed to be having a blast. and mommypoints (the most respected mommy and points crossover blogger EVER) agrees.

Thought I'd stop in and thank Steve Dave for providing the code for free AwardWallet upgrade. Slowly but surely building up points in many different reward programs, and this app helps a ton. Thanks, SD

United is one that they have issues with.

It doesn't track those programs as periodically as others, but you can set it to where your monthly statement from the programs gets routed through awardwallet and awardwallet will update using those.  It's a relative non-issue.  You use awardwallet to have a generally up-to-date snapshot of all your existing programs and where you stand with each, and to quickly log you in to each one you want to play with.  That's what you need when it's time to mess with your points; remembering delta, sw and united may have a more recent update than what's on your screen isn't tough.

And you shouldn't be flying sw anyway.

You can manually update those accounts and set expiration dates. Trim gives a very good analysis above on why award wallet is critical to have and use.

ok i'll give that a shot. i just remember opening an account, and linking delta, american, sw, and hyatt. and it only tracks one of those, so i didn't (and still don't really) get how it helps you if you are manually putting everything in anyway.

You have to manually set it up where your rewards accounts will e-mail your rewards statements to AwardWallet, you don't have to manually do really anything for after that. The only expiration date I had to enter manually was for the Gap card that my wife still inexplicably uses, they didn't have the exp. date for her rewards voucher. It's not a labor intensive system.
