this may be more travel thread but someone needs to swoop in and save emo.

i just received an upgrade to 1st on the upcoming JFK-SXM flight, which is great. however it is Delta policy to not upgrade companions on award flights. so basically if mrs mocat is going to get upgraded, it's going to come down to schmoozing the gate agent. any pointers?

I mean what are UR points valued at?  From BZN to MCI I had to use 20k UR points on Delta or spend like $220 in cash.  I've seen them valued at more than 1.1 cents/mile, some people over 2 cents/mile.  Maybe it's the redemption rate that sucked.

going to be tough. they are going to upgrade all flyers with any status and that probably won't leave any availability. I would look into paying for the upgrade now. delta is usually pretty reasonable for paid upgrades on award flights but I don't know about revenue (if this is a revenue ticket).

you booked travel with UR points directly. they are worth exactly 1.25 cents per mile doing that. don't ever do that again.

skymiles never expire. also once you qualify for Silver, any extra MQM's will be carried over to next year

skymiles never expire. also once you qualify for Silver, any extra MQM's will be carried over to next year

i guess what i'm asking is, now that i've qualified for silver, will i have to qualify for it again next year all over again? or does it stick...

now that you are qualified for silver, you will be at least a silver medallion for at least 12 months. once calendar year 2014 ends, any flying you do will be earning towards your 2016 status.

unless you fly like every week from now until the end of 2014, you will be a silver all of 2015

also silver medallions earn 25% extra mileage bonus. (the bonus miles do not count towards your medallion qualifications tho. they are just extra skymiles)
