Trying to book SFO-JFK/ERW/LGA next May. Terrible availability w/ both Avios and United 330 days out. :frown:

And WN of course doesn't release their schedules until the last rough ridin' minute. :curse:

there's a ton of 1st class availability on AA but that doesn't help you a lot with avios since they are going to charge you for 3 class service. that's a long ass direct flight though, may be worth it. there is some availability on AS out of OAK. does the BA site search for AK availability?

also, 330 days out is the 19th so you may want to give it a week before trying to book award space

I think that's one way. Kayak has lots of $410 RT nonstops, but I was hoping to use some Avios.

yeah, it is. you should wait about a week and try the avios again. I don't think AA has opened up their space yet for those dates. also, $410 RT SFO-JFK seems ridic. cheap.

I don't think BA searches for AS. AA has 2(!) award economy seats on AS through Seattle. But that's not a very good Avios redemption.

So I can apparently refer the Chase Marriott card as well. so if anyone is interested in getting that one let me know and I'll post a link.

I will be getting it in the next month or so after my mortgage is locked in, so post it here or pm it to me and I'll try not to forget like I did with the spg card

side note: once the mortgage is locked in, gfa goes hard after this churning thing

I've got a SPG referral - 30K offer for the next week.  I think the 30K has always been offered in September too.  Sucks, because I think Gooch got an SPG from my referral not long ago but it was just the usual 25K.

I got the Delta Skymiles one.  It was lower on my list but 50k miles and free first checked bag tempted me, plus $50 credit with Delta purchase, which will happen soon as I'll have to check two bags to get all my gear to Bozeman in a few weeks.

Can someone remind me what is a good valuation when redeeming miles?

Like, if a flight cost 25k miles, at what price would you spend cash instead?

Southwest at 1.43 pts per cent is a pretty good base measurement.

I did a mixture - I think when you're paying for 4 tickets SFO-NYC the 2 cpm is a little high, so I paid for three tickets w/ points that ended up being about 1.7 cents/mile and paid cash for mine. Got a nonstop going out but a layover coming back but I don't mind much because it's a short layover and we don't have to leave NY until 7pm.

Had to leave Tuesday, come back Sunday (before memorial day) but whatevs.

i use 1.5 cpm.  if i used 2 cpm, i'd almost never use any miles.

that's probably good. just checked and lucky values AA and UA at 1.8 cpm. I guess 2 cpm is when you know it was a good redemption. hyatt stays are ridiculously easy to get 2+ cpm. even staying 2 nights in wichita this weekend I'm getting 2.5+ cpm.

Applied for the Lufty and the Chase Freedom today (to go w/ my Inks), got both immediately. Also applied for the US Air again, got reconsideration lined...may have gone back to the well too many times on that one.

After tomorrow I'll have 205k UR points, ~120k USAir miles, and ~50k leftover SW RR from Mrs. WonderMeal's companion pass. Pretty soon after that I'll have 50k Lufty/United miles and 20k more UR. How can I turn this into an elite Italian vacation (Rome and Venice) for two next Spring? What else do I need to get? I'm thinking more United or a Hyatt card, but will take advice from hardened cc pros.

Each get an AA 50k card. 50k is biz class from Rome back to the states and you can fly star alliance there. Hyatt is your best bet for hotels. Each get the Hyatt right before you are ready to book for 4 free nights and then use UR for the remaining Hyatt nights or a hilton card for a couple free weekend nights. You are mostly there.
