it really depends on the chip. I probably won't do leisure travel outside of driving distance before then.

I'd rather fly than go by car. Gas stations and rest stops are far more rona tainted than an airport or airplane.

I get what you're saying, but you don't really need to go into a gas station, and if you do it can probably be less than a minute. You can get meals in drive thru's or plan stops at restaurants with outdoor seating.

And I'd take a gross open air rest stop bathroom over an airport one. Granted I haven't been in an airport since March so I don't know how crowded they are now but a lot of them just smell like stale piss which makes me think ventilation in them isn't always the best. Plus you're probably in an airport for at least an hour, on a crowded jetway, maybe there's a shuttle for a car rental, etc. Just a lot more opportunities for transmission compared to driving.

you can also just drop your pants and do your business anywhere you want on the open road, try doing that on an airplane

Air changes in an airplane is 20-30 an hour (2-3 times a minute). Air nozzle overhead is 50% outdoor air minimum. The recycled air is HEPA filtered and purified. I'm not worried about who is next to me. I have a nozzle washing a nice fresh air bubble over me.

Good luck seeing anything close to that on air changes in any restaurant or gas station.

50% indoor plane air blasting you for hours or a minute in a gas station...

I'm definitely less worried about the flight than I am anything else.

No individual part of a trip disturbs me that much. I'd do the same thing in Aruba as I do in kc now. Stay away from people, only eat outside.

The logistics of getting somewhere, not being stranded, and the things that would be considered higher risk in these times that I normally do on trips keep me at home at this point. Just doesn't seem worth it.

Sapphire more valuable and versatile but if you are going to fly a ton of SW next year (5+ RTs) that companion pass could play catch up?

I might be a schill but I think 140k on the IHG card is a pretty good deal.  It always depends on where you stay but it should pretty easily get you 5+ nights at a nice destination property or 10+ nights at an interstate Express.  Platinum status so frequent upgrades at the nicer places too.  If you use them right, you can redeem for $1.5k in hotel stays.

Downsides: IHG is flexing reward nights so big events might not be good value.  Also, IHG needs more properties in elite vacation destinations.

Been out of the game for a minute, is this still worth doing?  I’ve got a side hustle that should allow me to spend whatever the minimum spend on these sign ups are no problem.  Is it basically churn 5 chase cards every 18 months rinse wash repeat?

Yeah, I've slowed down some. I throw in an AA every once in awhile to go with the chases. The new CSP 80k offer is really good if you qualify. Have a referral link above if you do.

Also AA's current dynamic point rewards are strange. Flying the family to Bar Harbor in July and got 4 first class RTs for 21k more pts than the 4 RT coach seats would have been. The return flight was actually the exact same number of pts.
